should i get my permit?

ive heard that there is some way that i can just wait till im 17 and than get my provisional liscence instead of getting my permit.... also ive heard sumwhere that you can just pay a fee instead of doing ur 6 hours... would someone please give me a little insight into what my options are..

Back in my day you did 6 hours to get your permit when your 16 and you just got it at 17 regardless.....or something like that it was too long ago lol. I don't think you can pass the permit portion of getting licence unless it's for a motorcycle and you have a regular licence already.

But, that way seems like you won't be able to drvie while your 16. Do you think you won't pass the permit test?

I know in NJ, you can get your license at 18 without having a prior permit.

provisional liscence meaning...normal drivers liscence?

stover 05-12-2007 12:22 PM

yea i can get my permit now... which means i need a parent in the car ... and at 17 i get a provisional liscence... or cinderela liscence where i can only have one friend i nthe car and can only be out till i think its 11 or 12

what state do you live in? Cuz PA i was 17 and still had a permit. You have to have a permit for 6 months then you can take the liscence test

in washington you get your permit at 15 and a half, then you have to keep it for 6 months without getting a ticket ( you don't even have to drive, just have to have it ) then on your 16th birthday you can get your license

i'm not sure how different it is here, but i'd say get it just so you can drive when you have the chance

Ah, the thought of 15-16 year olds behind the wheel scares me. But really its no better then most of the people on the road now. I know in NJ it got really werid with their licensing stuff. When I was 16 I got my permit and then at 17 took the road test and got a full license. That was the last year they did that. They moved to some graduated bs that you dont have a full license til 18 now.

stover 05-12-2007 01:09 PM

yea... at 18 is the only time there is no restrictions

Ion22 05-12-2007 01:12 PM

You need your permit for 6 months or till your 18. So you can't just get it when your 17 but you can when your 18. I would take the test it's not hard at all

stover 05-12-2007 02:06 PM

i passed the ritten i just was wondering if i could just wait to skip the 6 hours of driving

foss 05-12-2007 02:18 PM

in PA i got my permit on my 16th birthday (first day possible) and got my license exactly 6 months after my birthday. neither of the tests were hard at all.

jspek 05-12-2007 02:36 PM

just get ur permit and get as much experience as you can before your license.

cxrock16 05-12-2007 03:12 PM

6 hours and your complaining? when i first got it i had to have like 50hrs of training and record everytime i drove with a signature that was like 4 1/2 years ago idk if anythings different now

stover 05-12-2007 03:16 PM

well i have to pay an instructor and make an appoitment and all that i cant just have my parents ride with me and then sign a book or w/e

Honest_Bob 05-12-2007 03:19 PM

The more experience the better. Do it!

ooooh isnt that optional ?and you save money on insurance if you do that i believe

Vypurr 05-12-2007 03:41 PM

Dude...Do the paid instructor classes! It saves you a good chunk of cash on insurance. Same for the 20hr classroom courses.

But you still didn't answer what state you were in?

In Pa, when I got mine 4 years ago, you got permit at 16, 16.5 you could take the drivers test (assuming you had a signature that you did 50 hrs behind the wheel). Then at 18, you get your provisions removed.

But honestly...For yours and my car's safety, get some experience and take a defensive driver course!
