switch out the dash now stuff doesnt work
hey guys,
Some might remember me from the furry interior thread but now i finally switched out my crappy dash for a nice 93 cx manual one. The problem is now my interior lights on the gauges and the heater stuff doesn't work, i have no horn and my SRS light is constantly on. I remember when taking the old one out and putting the new one in that there seemed to be a connector missing. I did check and the my DX auto dash had 4 connectors that went into the under dash fuse box. The cx manual one only had three. I didnt look to see if i mised it but not luck. Heres a pic that i beilive is the culprit. Let me know what you guys think. Im think i need to switch out the whole harness from the old dash to this one or i could be wrong. http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/306...ber2ws6.th.jpg |
It sounds like they're not compatible. Which would make sense considering the DX comes with more "stuff" than a CX. Why didn't you just go for a nicer DX dash?
because i got the whole car with perfect interior and 5spd for 50 bucks, looks like i need to take the harness out of the one and put in the other, think that would work?
ok so i was looking and some stuff today and i noticed that the DX dash deff has another connector in the dash harness and there is another plug on the cluster. I got two pics to show you what i mean. the one empty pluf in on the car now but ther CX dashboard doesnt have a plug for it and i even looked in the CX car and there no plug like that at all. So see what you guys can make out of this. thanks

Another update here, found out that those plugs are only for the auto gear indicator thing in the auto cluster, i dont think that would have any kind of effect but im still tracing wires to see where this stuff goes. any help just through it out there.
dammit im trying to find my 92-95 civic helmes manual to see if i can be any help...

no problem... i aim to please

yea i cant find any answers to this and im going nuts over it. everything works even the warning light around the cluster when you first turn the car on and the buttons on the climate control even work. Not the lights for the gauges or the lights to show you the climate control. Anyone have any advice?
i didn't read the whole post but my advice would be keep your old dash.... also usually with anykind of swap that involves wiring you always want to keep your cars original wiring...i posted the helms there... so if you really really want to go through with this you would want to figure out what each wire does in each harness... say for example you climiate controls.. on your old harness it was green/black and yellow/red wires but the new one has different colors and a different clip...so you would have to cut the clip and wire it to the right wires on your harness I dont know if I worded it right but main point is.. it is a pain in the ass and not worth it in my eyes... for all that work put a ek or integra dash in your car... my advice is put your old dash in.. i see you said it was fukked up.. but so what you can fix it.. rip the fur off...clean it up with some laquer thiner and re-paint it with some god paint made for plastics...but either way good luck

not sure if this has been covered, but have you checked the bulbs in the cluster? did you swap entire dashboards or just the gauge cluster?
the entire dashboard i switched over, havnet checked the bulbs, id kick myself if that was the problem.
ok new development today, i have a original civic radio in my car, when i turned off my car to go to the bank and came back turned the car on and the radio was asking for a "code". usually that only happens when power is completely lost to the radio, tried it couple more times and sure enough it kept asking for a code after it was turned off. Let me know if anyone has any ideas.
maybe you have a loose connection somewhere? thats the only thing that i can think of at the moment. im gonna ask a couple of friends an see if they might know what it is
Another thing is that there is a relay clicking under my dash, hadn't have enough time to find which one is make that noise but thought id through that out there to see if that helps
from my experience doing swap.. 99% of the time when you are trying to start a car and it wont start and you hear the main relay clicking means there is a loose ground.. i am not sure if it will click if there is a loose ground in your dash harness but i would say it is a definite possiblitiey
i dont see how a loose ground can cause all this. and since there is one ground in the dash

bummpppp
