Job while in School....

Ok, So my job has been hassling me day in and out. I requested certain days off or half days to entertain my school schedule and this was okay. Now that my classes have already started all I do is get hassled. EXAMPLE. Thursday I have a 8:15am class and a 12:30pm class, 4 Months ago I asked my job to begin having Thursdays off and the request was approved. The reasoning I wanted off is to focus on school and also that my job is 1hr 15mins from school/home area. Anyway up to 3 weeks ago my job said it could not permit me to have a full day and that I had to be in with the 1:30PM shift, I do not leave my schools parking lot til 12:45 so they expect me to do an hr and 15 minute drive in 45 minutes. This is physically impossible I have done 90mph down the freeway and walk in 5 minutes late and I get sent home for showing up to work late when I originally requested the days off months ahead of time got approved and now revoked. So anyway I just wanted to vent.......anyone recommend a good job while I attend school or know any openings anywhere? I am very reliable and a very harder worker.

P.S My mother says I should get a hold of someone in human resources to get my issues with work resolved but I have just had it.

I have contacted human resources and their response is that if I need a part time, I can be switched to a part time position, with lower pay and no benefits when I only need one day of the week to come in a few hours late which I requested to the regional manager months ago.

I am so ready to find a new job.

if you have ups near you, go for that. hard work but pays well for part time, good benefits, depending on which facility you work at you can get tuition assistance(which can be sent directly to you), and they have shifts around the clock so you can just get a later shift than you have at your current job

Olive Garden FTW...I worked there throughout highschool and all of college. If you put in some time there, they are VERY flexible and will let you work whenever you want as long as you have a good record with showing up on-time and such...

SMOGER I worked for UPS when I was in HS and it was a really good job. I was paid really well and they were really fair there. I lost a good 20lbs from loading and unloading trucks!!

I got paid $9.75 when I was in HS. Now I definetley couldn't live off of that now.

I actually just applied for UPS in reading... Problem is that they are trying to make me come in at a time when I have class and there are no other days. How quickly do you get employed by them because I could use a job ASAP. Do you have to wait while they do a backround check and drug test on you? Time is of the essence...

what kind of job is this?

I hate employers who are like this.

DropTopChevy 01-16-2007 12:29 PM

I'm trying to get a job at Target but i might try this UPS.

I was interested in UPS since lifting **** all day long really isn't bad for you plus you get paid

A rather large Cellular Service Provider, I work in the Regional Corp. Office, funny thing is when I took the job they promised full college reimbursement for as many classes as desired as long as a grade of B or higher was maintained.

If you can, waiting tables isn't all that bad for a college job. Usually managers can be a little testy depending on where you work, but hours are usually pretty flexible and if you can take the customers you can make really good money. My girlfriend makes $15-30 and hour depending on the shift and works at a reasonable restaurant.

Working and being in school is tough. But IMO school is way more important... if it's messing with your grades try and find somewhere else definitely. Good luck.

quite your job

I wish, too many bills....

I am in a similar situation...

I work as an accountant and started going to law school. I have class 3 nights a week which requires me to leave 30 minutes earlier then normal those three days.

I have never seen people so bitter about me needing to leave early, when I don't take my hour lunch and come in earlier then I need to.

Oh well. I agree with the other advice of talking to HR, especially since you work for a large company. While you are employed "at will" it really isn't in their interest to fire you because of their inflexibility with schooling.
