Look what I made

I'm learning to weld so I figured I'd make something for my car. Yeah they aren't the prettiest welds but they work. This is the first useful thing I've welded. I painted it flat black and it's drying now so I'll post the painted pictures in the morning. It did make the frontend feel a little tighter.

Take your time and grind the braces down to sit more flush so you can fill in the weld areas. Then grind down any high spots and smear some body filler in it since you are a beginner... thats what I did on the strut bar I made...

Actually I think with in the next couple of weeks I'll start buying the parts. I just gotta decide if I wanna go catback or turboback.

Yeah, I meant if I want to try and build the downpipe or just buy one, I can get one for $165. So I'll probably just build the cat-back part and buy the downpipe.

Those look like flux core welds...

those welds will break the first stress those shock towers see.

noclutch 01-09-2007 12:05 PM

^ what he said.

Those arent strong at all. You shouldve prepped the metal pieces so they fit flush together all the way around, tacked them in a couple spots, then finish welded all the way around. Right now they're just kind of stuck there with a glob of bird ****.
