Best Paint for calipers

Which is the best paint to buy if i want to paint my brake calipers red. Also once i buy the paint do i just paint it on or does it have to be pretreated.

they have caliper specific paints at auto stores.
they have both spray and brush on.

I would do brush on , since you don't really need to mask everything , and easy to do while the car is parked indoors ;)

Enamel paint for model airplanes works awesome. Just clean the calipers with a steel brush then paint them. I did it with the brakes on the FD, it works awesome.

I have been using high temp engine paint. I just clean them up real good with a steel brush. And then rather than masking everything off I just spray thew paint into a cup and use a foambrush and paint them by hand.

You did this while they were still on the rotors?

Mrjaydeeone 12-23-2006 08:37 PM

never would have thought about model paint. I have an a$$ load of paints at home. now what colors????

Ok did you do any prep for the model paints. primer, sealer, just brush it on??

slavetothemuzic 12-24-2006 12:56 PM

Do a search for G2 caliper paint. It's the brush on kind. Very tough stuff.

It looks great and it lasts. Only $15-20 depending on how hard you look.

I used Duplicolor on my brakes and it looks pretty good to me.

And how long does this whole process take? I'm thinking about doing mine in orange or something, and pretty much have the garage to myself this week (parts, parts parts!).

One day or so. When I did mine, I was also changing rotors and upgrading brake lines at the same time, so I took everything apart.

Cleaned the calipers really well. Did 2 or 3 coats, allowing 2-3 hours drying time between coats, then let them cure overnight.

It doesn't take so long to do a coat of paint as it does to let it dry.

Sounds like a good thing to do on a day off, and a good thing to do while looking to install other stuff.

Definitely. Since it only takes minutes to do a coat, but you have to wait a long time for it to dry totally.

You can knock out other things during the drying time.

Like putting on an intake, sway bar, or just general puttin around? Maybe an oil change..lol

Where can you find this G2 caliper paint?
