Changing Oil 99' Civic Si
 

Hey guys I'm going to help my buddy change his oil this week and was wondering what oil and filter you guys suggest since I have no idea about Honda's. Is it basically the same as american cars they way you change the oil.

why don't you just go to the local autoparts store and look up whatev the stock one is

I'd say throw a fram on it, its what I always use. And for oil I use Mobil Clean 5000.

I just grab the purolator as I think purolator makes the OEM subaru filters (forget where I read that, not sure don't quote me on it). personally I haven't heard many good things about fram

Yeah I know I could go look it up but basically I was just seeing if anyone perferred a certian filter over another one and also what weight oil but I assume thats in the manual or on the cap.

i've never changed oil in an american car, for all of my cars it's been jack the car up, take the oil cap off, take the oil plug, drain, replace, change filter, add new oil and replace cap

I dont even jack my car up, I just get under it...

You can reach the filter and screw if you reach underneath it...

Use only OEM oil filters. Go to davis acura or piazza honda and get an oil filter. THen fill it up with 4.2 quarts of NON SYNTHETIC 10w-30.

Deffinitly stay away from fram filters. Junk on Nissans and on Subarus, I would stick with oem filters. Even if they cost more, its not worth the possible hassle with antidrain back valves failiing and such.

Yeah, the bottom of the range frams are eh. They work, but you can get a much better purolator for the same price.

Why NON-SYNTHETIC??

I use the cheapest auzo oil filters on all my honda motors. Even my 20grand race motor. No problem yet. :thumbup:

Honda's were engineered to run non-synthetic oil. If you switch from non-synthetic to synthetic you are almost guranteed to burn oil. Synthetic oil schrinks(sp?) seals.

I use regular Valvoline 10w-40 and a Super Tech (Walmart brand) oil filter. Were Honda's really engineered to run on non-synthetic? I've never heard that before. I'd recommend getting some Valvoline for your buddy's Civic. Some of the better oil out there and its very affordable.
