Pro's Vs. Con's on EVO MR and EVO SE?
So a buddy of mine is considering purchasing a EVO 9 and wanted to know the difference between the MR and SE. The dealership told him the only dif is the SE has a 5spd, and is like 5k cheaper.
Anyone care to share some insight?!? |
pretty much right 6 speed vs. 5 speed
the 6 speed also has bilstein shocks drag racing 5 speed>6speed thank you |
thanks. also, feel free not to say, but whats your monthly insurance like, he got quoted $561 a month with no accidents. he is 20.
|
i have 15 points on my license so lets not get into that but i am not a primary driver on the evo so i got a lil less there but i still pay my pops like 400$/month

I don't know which one has it but I heard Evo's with Sunroofs suck, they make a lot of noise.

well i know its not an evo... but ive had my license revoked once, and have a bad record currently... and i only pay 180 a month. thats less than what i paid on my mx6... and im 22.
|
I pay about $200 per month with my MR. I have an extensive driving record. Esurance FTW
|
hell yea esurance.....i have a ticket for 147 in a 25, lost my license for it and a drag racing ticket and i only pay 240 a month for the evo and a 05 montero limited
|
1. I pay $100 a month on my Evo. I'm 28 with a perfect driving record.
2. I have the SSL package (sunroof) and I never have/had any noise come from it. 3.Go to Mitsubishi's website and read about the cars if you really want to know the difference. |

The GSR is the only trim you can get the SSL (Sun, sound and leather) package on. Edit: Insurance is $150 a month for 2 cars, age 25. $500 Col. $100 Comp. |
MR = Bilstein shocks, Alum Roof, 6-spd, BBS wheels, plus a couple of other goodies.
If you plan to keep the stock suspension, the Bilstein is the way to go. It's a very, very nice ride while still outperforming the standard suspension. (Source, C&D comparo). It doesn't outperform the reg. suspension by much, but is MUCH more comfortable. Not that it helps me, my Bilsteins are packed away in the basement. |
I just bought myself a 2006 EVO IX SE and had to deal with this same issue.
As stated above, the difference is the 6speed trans and susp...but like most people on this site, i will change the susp so thats out the window --- and the 6 speed alone wasnt worth the extra cash imho. I opted for the car in my avatar and couldnt be happier :) The SE (special edition) will get you: - Aluminum roof (like the MR) - HID headlights - BBS Wheels (like the MR --- BUT better color) - Red stiching on the seats ;) - Front lip spoiler (subtle but nice) - SE badging Overall, its a nice package for a nice price. Im biased, but id suggest SE. :supz: |
this is my opinion..
if you want a car just for the track, RS if you want a daily driver, IX if you want a daily driver but don't mind shelling out a couple extra bucks for nice addionts, IX SE if .. well i can't really see any reason to get the MR, maybe if you didn't plan on modding and wanted to be set with a better suspension and had some hardon for a 6 speed. i don't know why but i always felt like the MR was for people that wanted an evo but didn't want to mod it |
I'm pretty sure they have a MR SE also. That could solve your friends problem.

5 Spd > 6 speed for day to day driving. Actually I think 5 is already one too many.
