need help with timing

Anyone want to help/do my valve and ignition timing? I've never done it before so I want someone that knows what they're doing so I can learn from them instead of taking the chance of f'ing it up myself.

it's a 91 talon tsi, i already put on a timing belt but totally forgot to align all the stuff up so it's gonna have to come out.

what together right now? timing cover is on? or no? do u have balance shafts on the car? also where do you live? ive done the timing belt like 20times on my GFs 1G talon. cause i had to take the motor apart like 3times. once to rebuild motor, fix a leak in the oil pump, another time to delete balance shafts. and ive done the ignition timing on her car a few times too. that parts pretty easy. are u just doing preventative maintance with the timing belt replacement, or did the timing belt already skip teeth? or snap.

lower timing cover is still on. i still do have the balance shafts on it, i do have the bs belt elim. kit though. im located at mcguire afb, nj.

balance shafts are a bitch to take out. and worst part is when the oil pump springs a leak 500miles later :(

I got the timing all done...went to crank it....*CLICK*...that was it!

It sounds like you have issues inside the motor. Did the old belt break or jump time? If it did, or you cranked the motor with the cam timing off then there is a very good chance that there are bent valves. Try turning the motor over by hand and if it's locked up you have bigger problems and should find a shop to have them take a look at the motor before any further damage occurs.

the old belt never broke or jump time and i made sure i lined up my pulleys and cams correctly per Haynes manual. could it be just the starter or maybe a bad ground or dead battery?

outlawzxblizz99 11-14-2006 09:48 PM

everytime i try to start it, it just makes that clicking sound. i even tried to jump it.

Could just be a bad ground, or you could have fried the starter relay. Get your volt meter out and measure the battery voltage

OK, I just ordered a new grounding kit and starter....along with a few other goodies that has nothing to do with the problem, just thought I would them...anyways, why would the starter just out of nowhere go bad? could they go bad from just laying on the ground for awhile?

RyanG 11-15-2006 10:49 PM

dead battery. try a jump :)

95gstnj 12-18-2006 09:23 PM

hey, i know you said youve tried jumps multiple times, however ive had the same problem on a 1g before. i tried a jump, and it didnt work. i threw a new battery(well, a known good battery) in it, and it fired right up. give a new battery a try
