how-to, photoshop?
 
trying to make a flat image into a 3d sphere to use as an icon on my computer

I have photoshop CS and Imageready, I can't find **** to alter an image to look like a sphere, anyone?

Did you not make your avatar? That has a spherical effect on it. Just mess around with Filter>Distort>Spherize and then add some highlights and shadows.

layer effects > emboss or w/e the 3d crap is called; if you do it on a flat circle and mess around with the settings you can make it look like a sphere (just a dull one, you'd have to add reflections separately and stuff to make it look shiny)

filters are also probably a good idea, and remember, google is thy friend :)
