Looking for a advice on where to start...

Like the title says, im looking for advice on where to start tuning my Golf. Given that i am a noob, that is willing to learn, any advice would be great. Thanks in advance.

My first modification for every vehicle I have ever owned started with the air intake. I usually have that done within literally 30 minutes of owning the car.

It comes down to preference. Do you want more power or better handling, perhaps looks are most importan? Me, I like the twisties and drifting so I put a premium on handling and so next I go for strut bars and lowering springs or coil-overs, and upgraded tires.

If you are going for power, stick with the main bolt ons, including cold/warm air intakes, upgraded throttle bodies, cat back or header back exhausts, etc. Or forego the bolt-ons and start saving for a turbo system. Maybe nitrous is more your bag?

Looks - this is where your gonna get bagged on the most. Remember who you are building the car for - YOU. If you like the big bodykits and the wings, then go for it. Just be prepared that their are lots of folks who dont like that stuff and they have no problem telling you about it. Aesthetically speaking, I find buying a new rim/tire package makes the biggest aesthetic difference. Plus, as tires are the only part of the car that actually touch the road (and therefore makes them the most important single part of the vehicle IMO), upgrading those means you upgrade your car significantly on the performance side as well. Whether that be road handling, grip on launch, etc etc.

first two mods I would do.... a TT cat back exhaust and neuspeed CAI.

You will get more specifics from the V-dub crowd I am sure. But generally, its all the same from application to application.

EDIT: By the way, Rockos Modern Life was one of my favorite cartoons.
