1997 Ford Escort:R.I.P (295,600 miles)

Well, it finally happened today. I got a flashing CEL on my way to work today. When I went to run out this morning for a stop I was greated by the sound of piston slap as I tried to crank her. I had AAA flatbed it to my mechanic. My mechanic did a startup attempt with it on the flatbed and said "WHOA! Sounds like you'll be putting a new engine in!". So I had it towed back to my house where it will be dismantled for every part I can sell off of it! She served my well, though, so I really can't complain. 295,600 on the original engine and 180,000 on the current tranny. Yep, I got my money's worth outta her!

talk about a daily driver.

That's a lot of miles...what's your commute? That's an average of 90 miles a day for 9 years! (not including leap years...)

Well.....I lived in Vermont for about 3 years I was averaging 45,000 miles a year!. I used to use my car to do homecare visits but now that I'm management, most of my miles come from my commute from deep Williamstown to Cherry Hill.

When I sold my 95 Merc Tracer it was still kicking at well over 200K. Original motor, tranny and timing belt as far as I know. Owned it since around 60k. I almost miss that thing.
