Thinking of buying an Evo

Any sudgestions of which trim level to get? Can anyone honestly say the MR is worth the money? What is the differences in the trim levels?

ToTheIX's 06-27-2006 01:27 PM

id say no, but other people would say yes i suppose......basically with the mr you get hid/fog lights, diff wheels, a little diff suspension setup and some aero stuff that doesnt com on the gsr....as far as thr rs, i wouldnt go there...no wing no floor mats, no trunk liner, no radio, no power window/locks...yea its a little lighter but not that much faster and only in a straight line anyway...bsides the fact that its only like 2000 cheaper anyway, no matter what you decide to get though id go about it quickly bc thyre getting hard to come by

markley02 06-27-2006 02:28 PM

Is the suspension in the MR that much better than the IX?

ToTheIX's 06-27-2006 06:39 PM

i guess if your really gonna auto x it and what not it may be, but to just ride around and do some spirited driving on som good roads, id say put the cash elsewhere

You can get those on a "gsr' with the SSL package.

If you're going to change the wheels and suspension than the MR probably isn't worth it unless you really want the 6 spd.

yea but even the ssl package is 3200 more, my dad just got one with it, i think the leather seats suck....and theres no way in hell id pay 3200 more for the sunroof and headlights

What about when it comes to modding an Evo? Where is the best place to buy parts? How much power can it make on a stock turbo? How much would it cost to get it around 400 AWHP? what about 500 AWHP?

turbo4g63 06-27-2006 11:04 PM

for evo's its really EXTREMELY easy to hit 350 whp...TBE, Intake, intercooler piping and cams and your there....as far as stock turbo....i would say its maybe good for about 375whp

wrx_snobordr 06-27-2006 11:05 PM

I just purchased a IX and couldnt be happier. IMHO the MR just wasnt worth the extra money. From my research before buying the car the evo is just as easy to mod than the wrx, if not easier, it doesnt have the hard to work on boxer engine. It is also more responsive to bolt on mods, from what i understand a simple turbo back and tune will give you around 350 whp. I say EVO FTW!!

ToTheIX's 06-28-2006 07:43 AM

if your looking to get a ix, you can hit the area of 340 whp with just exhaust and a flash....so for 400 whp id say youd prob get there around 2000.00, maybe less depending on the flash and who deos the tuning. Also on the ix ive heard you can make 400+ on the factory turbo no prob....its decently underrated from from the factory, they say it has 286 hp, but mine dynoed at 264 with no mods

markley02 06-28-2006 08:05 AM

One last question, any good evo forums out there?

You dynos at 264 wheels? WHat is the power train loss for the evo? What does 264 wheels equate to in flywheel hp?

D Money 06-28-2006 11:55 AM

Get the IX!

The MR is nice because they shift super nice, sometimes when i drive my friends evo 8 5MT it's tough to shift, but when I drive the MR it feels much better. Reguardless, evo IX's with tbe, intake, flash, and 1 cam are doing 400whp on stock turbo!

Mr. SUAVE 06-28-2006 12:07 PM

Everyone is getting a 9. I'm jealous! oh well....

peteyturbo 06-28-2006 05:49 PM

I'd think the MR is worth the extra $$ but I may be biased since I own one..The suspension is set up more for daily driving, and is much more comfprtable, and stable over bumps while cornering, all while providing better maximum handeling performance over stock struts.
MR also comes with a 6 speed that I prefer much more then the 5 speed, it also has teflon coated shifter cables and an upgraded clutch disc that provides more cushion.
Also don't forget it comes with an aluminum roof that lowers the center of gravity by a decent amount, along with the vortex generator and "zero lift kit" (installed on IX's) which offer 10 percent more downforce..
I know when I drive regular EVO's (non-MR) it feels very "bumpy and bouncy" compared to my car..
It all depends on what you prefer and what kind of deal you can get. I paid 500 more then an EVO with sun and sound package for my MR.. Most people that get to test drive the MR's usually buy them..

92dxman 06-28-2006 07:16 PM

I would go with the RS. I rode in one this past weekend and it was really nice not having the wing in the back. Crank windows were a nice addition also!!

CarbonIS 06-28-2006 07:17 PM

i was seriously thinking about an sti or evo. I went and test drove both an
06 sti and an evo MR. The evo MR is def. faster when u get into it, but the
cheapness of it was a total turn off to me. Personally, if i'm going to buy a
$36000 car that i'm going to drive everyday, it better look like a $36000 car.
Not only that, the turning radius sucked, and having it be out of production for
18 months is a little scary parts-wise.

peteyturbo 06-28-2006 07:57 PM

Well if you can buy parts for 15 year old DSM's, I don't think evo's will be a problem..
So you test drove both cars and didn't buy either one?? You deserve a medal for self control!!On a side note, most people don't buy theese cars for looks..
