Once again... another newbie joins the club.
Well hello everyone. I am glad to finally come across a club that is in my area. I live in the Holland area of PA and not too far from a bunch of the members that are on this club. I met one of your club members (driving an 88 olds RWD) that had your website on his window, so wanted to check the site out.. Currently I drive what most of you people would think of as "The Grand Mother Grocery Getter" 1988 Chevy Celebrity Eurosport 2.8 V6 Sedan. However as the car stands with 214K on the clock (and that is with the orignal setup and not really "stock") it surprises alot of people by giving them a run. It shows that even budget line of GM still performs. If you ever are on the Newtown Bypass and see a 2-Tone Celeb doing a 120... sure isn't someone's grand-parents. This summer (while I wait to find my IROC-Z Camaro, I plan to make this Grocery getting into a one sure of a sleeper... That will sure help with the swap of an L67....360+ HP in a celeb...the first and ever I or anyone else has heard of.
As for me, the name is Mike and I currently go to CRSD and MBIT. I currently own run my own computer IT business and on the side I sell and install car audio equipment. Hit me up or any of my contacts if you need something. Picture below is my car back in Sept after the new custom paint job. Soon removing my pizza cutter rims/tires, and replacing with 16" pacer rims, dropping the beast, and doing a full suspension job to ready the car for a 5 speed swap and upgraded four wheel disc setup. (Removed Picture for now due to crappy hosting site) |
LT1/LSx/other 350.

Yeah I would love to have a 350ci (383ci would be my dream engine) but this is a FWD car so finding a FWD transmission that would work/fit onto that motor maybe abit of a problem. My engine bay is pretty big, but also have to consider that this car never did come with a V8. Going from a 2.8 V6 173ci to a V8 305ci.... yeah thats a big step. The 305 would have to have a custom built FWD transmission or use a FWD Catty transmission but the bellhousing may not bolt up right (going custom I guess hah.)
|
might as well get a new car for what it'll cost for all of these conversions
|
Throw a Northstar engine/trans in there.
and.... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...mike/redx1.jpg |
Yeah a Northstar would work out as well, only issue I could see is wouldn't be able to run A/C (like I use it anyway)... so maybe just maybe.... About the picture site where its hosting off of is crap right now so I guess its down....
|
The 3800 should work fine, being it's normally on FWD cars....I'd suggest that route for less fabrication and custom transmissions.

Hey man welcome to the site. Your one of the guys from the cash wash I'm guessing.
|
Sorry, for some reason I thought you had a pickup truck.
Really, get a new car, but if not, L67 swap. |
You should drop a neon motor in it. :prayer:
|
My first pick was the 3800 motor.. so I guess i will stick with it due to not having to make any custom motor mounts. Well I do have a nice amount of $$ saved away that is due to the fact of everyone else around here (my friends) are poor as hell because whatever $$ they make... they blow it on crap... I alway kid with them.. atleast i don't have to go week from week making sure I have $20.00 bucks for gas heh. I saved up one reason for my company and also to invest a nice about of $$ into this car... I have always thought of buying another car... but i just want to be totaly different instead of having the normal Chevy Camaro or the Honda Civic... just want to be different. And yes I am one of the guys from the car wash Olds 88. I am the one that talked to you most about you car and about the subwoofer... So how did that cruse in philly go?
|
Drop a 2.4L Turbo.... :finga: Or try and slam that ion redline motor...what is that 2.2L or 1.9L i forget

Nah I really don't want something smaller then what I got in my car now (2.8 is like one step away from a 4 cylinder)... my dad was a muscle car freak and so I am I... If i was to install a 4 cylinder into my car I would be kicked out of my house (lol). Not like I don't like the 4 cylinder motors. I give credit to alot of cars that sport the 4 cylinder motor. Some of those darn cars are just so freaking fast.. its crazy. I have seen a few civic's in person destroy SRT-10 Vipers... now I give alot of credit to the civic. I just want to stick with a larger V6 or V8 if possible. Due to the gas going up and up... think I may just stick with a V6. This is one of the reasons why I am holding off on my IROC-Z (also no where to put an extra car as of right now).

I would go with the 3800 S/C it a good engine and easy to mod. I know b/c i have one :finga: Check out this site if you plain on doing this www.l67swap.com they will help you out.

I acutally didn't think that 2.8 Chevy could make it more than 150k miles.
|
Well to tell you the truth, the 2.8 MPFI Gen II motors are very well built. My car has 214K (all orignal) and still runs VERY strong. My car has low miles compaired to some of the members that are on the A-body club i am on. I have met a few people with the same car/body as my car with well over 300K on the orignal motor. As long as you change the oil in these motors they last a hell of along time. I use valvoline Max life for my motor oil and tranmission fluid... i have to say if you car has alot of miles stick with that stuff. When I see these cars in the junkyards... even in a crash or the car has the 2.5 4 cylinder motor with low miles.. all the 2.8s in the junkyard seem to be at around 200K to 250K. The 2.8 RWD motor i have heard is a totaly different motor (doesn't last) odd.
