some cool pics

Now that I am no longer employed with this company I can share some pics of what I have been doing for the past year, building wind turbines! It was a cool job but I just cannot handle living out of hotels all over the country anymore and never being home.
Most of theese pics were taken at the Bear Creek wind farm outside of wilked-barre and some were from California. Theese are G8x turbines, 90 meters tall with a blade diameter of 87 meters and they produce a maximum of 2.2 megawatts a peice..

how do you go about attaching the blades to the main pole? i see you use a crane to lift it up but how does it attach?

Call me crazy, but I'd love to see one of those blades come off and cause some destruction on its way down the road.

It takes two cranes, the big one is attached at a point as to where the rotor would sit vertical and the other keeps it flat enough until it gets high enough to lift it vertically. Than it's "pray for no wind time" and start and line up the bolt holes with the hub..

Yeah that's cool. When you see them next to the road. Damn

hystericfox 05-07-2006 04:00 AM

Those are not far from me, maybe 20 minutes. I see them whenever I take the turnpike to school. I want to take pics of my car with them behind it, but haven't found any good spots yet.
