Anybody have experience with nitro rc cars?
 

For the past like 3 years I have been wanting a rc car. Ever since I was little I always had one. I want to get a nitro powered one but I just can't afford a new one. So I'm thinking that I can possibly find a nice used one for sale. Thing is that I have read that people actually prefer a electric one over a nitro one because all you have to do is charge it, you don't have to mess with a engine and nitro and you also don't have to tune it. I heard tuning it can be a pain in the balls. I can prolly pick one up for like 150 to 200 dollars. It would be my first one, just a toy to jump and run around no racing. I would have to be a 4x4 truck.

I have a friend of mine fixing two up (trucks, I'll have to check on their drivelines) to sell.

ive had a bunch of them over the years nitro/electric, since the Li-Po movement i wouldn't consider anything but electric anymore. the nitro ones always were a pain in my ass. When i go to race at the track with my friend, he always spends a half hour tuning his buggy while i run around with a fresh battery having a blast. Look into the Team Associated SC10rs, its brushless out of the box and a ton of fun, super durable as well! I'm sure you could find one used with plenty of spare batteries and a decent charger.

For racing LIPO, for just enjoyment Nitro - here's why I say this. 1. LIPO batteries get hot when charging, they have to be monitored while being charged because over charging can cause them to overheat and cause a fire or burst. For non-racing Nitro cars normally don't need to be changed from factory settings to run properly, the key with Nitro is to run the fuel out of them and use after run oil as recomended by the manufacturer. If the Carb adjustment does get messed up they are simple to adjust for 20% fuel you close the needle valve and back it out 2-1/2 turns and the car should run, if there are no other problems.

The potential speed of nitro-powered vehicles means that they can be extremely dangerous to run in crowded areas -- more so than the slower-moving electric RCs. Fumes from nitro fuel, the speed of the vehicles, and the noise of the nitro engine limit them to outdoor use only.
