Simmons Focus ST

I finally got my 2014 Ford Focus ST.

I had all the parts before I got the car

Koni rear shocks, ST rear sway bar, 17x8 OZ wheels, MBRP T304 cat back exhaust, 255/40/17 Z2

It is a fun DD,...I took it to AC today and got 32mpg on the highway.

Can't wait until I get back from Nats to start racing it.

I'm not sure if I should subscribe. Because after 10 thread updates, he will have another car with a new build thread.

well let's be honest with ourselves here...... it's the same ole song & dance.

gets new car..... wheels & tires.... suspension.... exhaust.... videos of him flying around an autox course....... ditch car for something else.

I nearly bought one of these instead of my WRX. It was great fun on the test drive, had gobs of power and was decently roomy. I just couldn't get over the FWD.

Let me know when you sell this slab.

I finally got the wheels on the car....saved 38lbs total with wheels and tires.

I got on the scales,...no spare tire, or tools, Plus less then a qtr tank of gas.

3,040 lbs.

Daily driving i would say the ST get the nod....BRZ hands down for back roads. I've never driven the BRZ but the ST was a ****load of fun. If you were looking for a mix of both the ST is hard to beat.

I've actually driven both of the ST models. Both were lots of fun, handled very well and are fairly functional.

That's hard to say,.....I was more comfortable in the BRZ and fun to drive on back roads. But not enough power for DD.

The Focus is fun on back roads, and has decent power. But not as comfortable for DD.

I went to Island dragway on Friday to see what it does.

I had the e30 tune in, running on street tires. It was really hard to put power down in 1st and 2nd gear.

The best I did was 13.805 @ 103

You have the factory recaros? I wasn't a big fan as they felt to tight. The salesman at the dealer assured me they would wear in. They just weren't comfortable to me. I'm also pretty average body type, 5' 11'' and 200lbs. Now i've ridden in a regular focus which felt fine, just zero power.

No, I don't have the Recaros just for that reason.

I don't race and have not autocrossed in a while but aren't you losing traction every time you pick up a wheel? Theres a big discussion on the Miata forums (ongoing) about setting droop on the suspension and some how aftermarket coilovers like the TEINs I have really need longer rear springs to be better. Maybe it affects RWD cars more because with a wheel up its hard to put the power down.

Didn't you guys have an NC Miata a while back?

Some of the fastest cars at most autocrosses dog leg. I think you're correct in assuming that on RWD cars it's irrelevant unless it's affecting your ability to put the power down. Lifting an inside front wheel though....that's no bueno.
