Need advice as to what tuning to use for a turbo build

I have a 2007 Aveo I am putting a turbo on. Not sure which option to use for the tuning. I'm not sure if I want to spend nearly $1000 on a full ecu swap like haltech or use a piggy back system like the greddy emanage. Either way I'll have it tuned on a dyno but I'm just not sure which software to use. Thanks.

Depends on the horsepower you want out of it. A piggyback(emanage, safc) is only good for 100-200 hp. A standalone(haltech, autronix) is infinite if you know what you're doing.

A very small amount of horsepower. Definitely not more than 200.

piggy back probably won't get you very far at all if the ECU can't correct for boost. You might be better off wiring in a Megasquirt or Microsquirt. You can get the full stand alone and harness for around $400 and tune it yourself or have a shop tune it. You can set up full fuel and spark control, or do like I did on my past few cars and run fuel only as long as the stock spark table is reasonable.

Where can you find a megasquirt for $400? I've been leaning more towards a greddy emanage blue.

Are you doing the tuning yourself? Or having a shop do it? I ask because some shop tuners are pretty specific about what software/hardware they will and will not tune. I'd find a tuner and shop that you trust first, then see who they prefer. You need to also think about what features you want. Are you looking for anti-lag, graphing, or something that can be customized?

I'm thinking a piggyback will do what you want, provided you aren't looking for something with multiple triggers, gear specific tables, anti-lag, etc.

Its a GM car so it has SCT support. Get a tune from SCT it is the best hands down software you can get for tuning Ford/GM/Dodge.

It gives you full control over the stock ECU and even lets you change settings in the ECU you didn't even know were there. Such as maybe a hidden shift light, ect.

You can use SCT to tune it stock, turbo, hell bore it out, put on a hi-comp head, and high rev cams with a turbo feeding a SC, and you can still use SCT.

Remember the Koneseigg? Every car they sell that uses a Ford based engine, tuned with SCT before leaving the factory.

sct does not support this car.

Shame, it does take them a while to get support for cars that are not tuned often.

Email them they may be willing to work with you on providing support for it.

It's cause this car is basically a daewoo. It's not really a chevy at all.

Still a GM ECU I assume, should be unlockable by them.

ok well I did email, worth a shot I suppose.

Its worth a call to sct but it takes a lot of time to crack the binary on a certain ecu so i doubt they have it. The haltech sprint 500 can be wired in to run in parrallel to the stock ecu and can handle what ever u want for a 4 cylinder. Worth the money. Check hptuners car list as well.

hp tuners is a no, sct is a no. The sprint 500 is the best option. It's just a grand. nbd
