85 Camaro IROC build
 

I've always wanted one of these cars since i was a little kid. Saw this online for an awesome price considering the parts it came with, so I picked it up. It has plenty of issues, but at least the PO was honest with me about them. Here's how it looked when i picked it up.

I gave the car a good check up and assessed the major issues. The shifter cable is bent so it's not going into gear properly, the exhaust is a flexpipe from the cat back haha, the driver door sags a lot, the driver seat is broken(had to drive it home leaning forward since the back goes to the floor), none of the gauge cluster lights work, no door cards, no headliner, passenger headlight out, minor rust issues... i think that's it haha.

I really just want to make this a fun weekend cruiser. I want to get it driving first with this motor set up, but work primarily on the visual side of things since i will be doing an LS1 swap at some point.

First thing i tackled was the exhaust. In my huge box of extra parts was a used Dynamax Catback system. It's a little beat up, but since I'll be doing the exhaust when swap the motor this will do. i cleaned it up and sprayed it with rustoleum paint to clean it up a bit.

Next was the seats. It came with used APC racing seats. They're not in the best condition, but they work. I will swap them out with some better ones when i get the money... for now I can at least drive it.

Next up was the gauge lighting issue. I got some red, and white LED's from amazon. Thought it would look cool with different colors. Have quite a few lights left over for any other lighting i may want to do.

I'm happy with out it turned out.

I know this is where a lot of people are going to throw out the hate haha.. but finding good condition interior pieces for a 30 year old car is ridiculously expensive, or impossible. So... I decided to try 3M Carbon wrap to see if i was feeling it. I have to say, this stuff was SUPER easy to use, and I personally love the look of it. just did a couple pieces first to see if i liked it.

Got some door cards, rear bumper (current one is dented and cracked), front bumper insert, new brake pads and rotors, rear view mirror, and new headlights!

Pretty cool build. Loved the look of the old irocs, not too many of them left. Props for building something up outside the box :)

Wax is real good, that way the police radar will bounce right off of it.

Love the car man, nice work so far, especially with the interior. I have a 2nd and a 4th gen, but I've always wanted an Iroc. Junkyards seem to have a lot of these cars, and hawksthirdgen.com is a little pricey but they sell new and used everything, just in case your missing some small/hard to find pieces.

thanks guys... it's been really fun so far.. and pretty easy to work on. I'm doing the shifter cable replacement this weekend. hawks is pricy as hell, so i'm going junkyard, and trying to fix any parts i can.
