Study finds that music pirates buy the most music

Music piracy actually increases music sales. "file sharers actually buy 30% more music than those who don’t download content illegally."

I guess RIAA can go cancel all of their music sharing lawsuits now.

...and downloading music mainly affects the record companies and not the artists themselves as much. They make the majority of their money from live shows and you can't download a concert. The people bitching about downloading music killing the artists financially, stealing content, etc. are really just the record companies because they are distributing the music and downloading it bypasses them. In reality, downloading music only helps to "spread the word". People will download, become familiar with the artist, and then pay to see them live.

Proof of that can be seen with all the new dubstep artists who have "come of age" well into a time where file sharing is almost considered normal. Look how many people rip using Dirpy, etc. and download full albums with all the torrent sites, and then take a look at their sold out live shows. In order for new artists to make money, suburban high school kids and college bros need to download dubstep, buy tickets to a concert, show up wearing tank tops and chugging beer, find molly, and then bounce around for a few hours. Deadmau5 and Skrillex have no reason to give a sh*t about downloading. They're rolling in cash and most of it comes from those shows. Of course album sales do make the artists money as well, but it's not as much as everyone thinks.
