Hello Everyone on TST,

*Z!lla's under the operating table atm because I cooked a rear-main seal (I apparently did not lubricate the inner lip of the thing before installation). She is also misfiring a bit, running rich, and leaking a teensy weensy bit of oil from cyl 3; all those can wait :)

Cool Z man!

OutToWinPAHC 06-02-2012 11:14 PM

that stock ecu likes the open BOV?

Shipman 06-02-2012 11:25 PM

May I have the wagon please? Sell it to me

Never drove the car hard enough to find out ): it should, though. Lots of guys on z31p have run atmospheric bov's with stock tune.

For the pice of.....on the house?

Erik@R/TTuning 06-04-2012 10:03 AM

I used to have an '86. I loved that thing and kind of wish I still had it.

I've Returned!

Whole lotta updates on the Z. She is running, purrs like a kitten, rumbles like a MOFO (getting used to the poly mounts), and pulls hard! Current issues right now are still rust and her burning oil. I have switched to thicker, 10W-40 high mileage oil with Engine Restore formula (I don't have money to fully rebuild the engine of a car I will barely be driving).

Things that have changed:
-JEGS fuel pressure gauge
-installed FICD with custom fitting on a silicone coupler (that's right)
-2.5" CM Performance Aluminized Exhaust (no cat' or muffler)
-installed original heater
-new fuel level sender coming in the mail
-timing cover installed
-NGK V-power 'plugs
-new exhaust valve stem seals

OutToWinPAHC 12-29-2012 04:28 PM

whats causing the oil burn, and why only half the valve seals?

vgterian94 12-29-2012 04:38 PM

It is either aged valve stem seals, blown oil seal in the turbo, or worn piston rings. I noticed oil condensing around exhaust ports 5 & 6 and without much time, I decided to replace just those two seals (yep, not even half the seals, I know ). When I have more time, I will replace all the seals  As for the turbo being responsible--I had it professionally rebuilt so I am ruling it out (unless accidentally racing the engine past 4k rpm upon start up, but letting the car idle after that can damage a rebuilt turbo). And for worn piston rings.... I could imagine it being the issue...hence the Engine Restore and thicker engine oil.

OutToWinPAHC 12-29-2012 04:41 PM

that restore is no good man, specifically for a turbo car, you probably are on your way to clogging the feed line.

vgterian94 12-29-2012 04:44 PM

Woah woah...clogging the feed line? Engine Restore isn't goop...how can it clog it? Do tell...

OutToWinPAHC 12-29-2012 04:48 PM

its an adhesion agents that in time is supposed to fill in the voids and hatches in the cylinder walls and increase compression. It's a clogging adhesion, not as much as a stop leak but it's meant to stick.

Nice z man. I have had a ton of these. My current one is making 478 whp on a stock na engine(with big turbo). I would change all the valve stem seals and do a compression test and see where the problem is. Also depending on the boost you are running and if u pluged the egr and pcv setup u might be building crank case pressure. Usually the exhaust valve seals wear out first.

If so, having the car run as much as possible is best...all the material in the formula will more likely bond to the cylinder walls as desired while skipping over the feed line.

Nice are you on z31performance.com? And do you mean that excess crank case pressure may effect the smoking issue? I plugged up just the egr, air regulator, and pcv.

huh the materials are aluminum and copper the same as oil stop leak. Fix the issues, dont snake oil them

vgterian94 12-30-2012 11:12 AM

I shall fix those issues when I have the time and extra money :)

Say, I heard that valve stem seals are the culprit only when the engine smokes while its cold...the seals are supposed to swell up at higher temperatures, closing up cracks and warps. If not necessarily true, I am SSOOO going to get at the rest of the stem seals.

OutToWinPAHC 12-30-2012 11:27 AM

thats what they do when they are on their way out, until they get too bad. Are you using a PCV setup, or vacuum drawn catch can?
