Stupid ****ing Drunk Drivers!

I normally walk to my friends house right down the street from me, but luckily tonight, my girlfriend drove the .1 (or less) miles there.

As we were getting ready to leave my friends house, we walked out side to see a mercedes crashing in to the back of my girlfriends car, pushing it about 30 yards pass my friends driveway. The speed limit on the road is 25 by the way. Earlier on in the night, I had commented to my girlfriend about how impressive her parking was, about 1/2" from the curb, front and rear tires, without scraping. On a completely straight and flat road, which is rather well lit, that stretches for about 2 miles, some car was able to surpass the speed limit enough to push a honda civic 30 yards down the road with the brake on. I ran over to the car, asked the guy if he was alright, helped him out of the car, and asked him a simple question. "Were you drinking tonight?" His reply was that he had a couple glasses of wine at his mothers house, but was fine to drive. My friends were already on the phone with the police, and the neighbors had heard the noise of the accident.

The police showed up about 1-2 minutes after the incident. They asked what happened, and promptly took the man aside. He miserably failed the field sobriety test, and ended up blowing a .25 in to the breathalizer, more than 3 times the legal limit. He was quickly read his reads, cuffed, thrown in the back of the cruiser, and driven off by the police officer.

While my girlfriend was worried about losing her car that her recently deceased grandmother had bought her, I was thinking how lucky we were. My girlfriend had to grab her purse with her keys in it, which saved about 5 seconds of time. If we had walked there, we would have most likely been ATTEMPING to cross the deserted neighborhood road, at the exact time that the drunken driver came speeding down the road.

Sorry, I just had to share that and get it off my chest. There's no need for driving while under the influence, PERIOD. This is the second time something extremely personal has happened with me regaurding drunk driving.

Drunk drivers suck. Sorry to hear about what happened. Hopefully his insurance will settle everything.

wow that sucks, i have personaly had my fair share of drunk driving accidents (not me, but witnessing them)... and its a terrible thing.

Glad to hear that you two weren't in the accident. People just don't seem to learn that drinking and driving don't go together. Stupid people.

That sucks, but at least you have the guy that did it, and he will have to face his actions.

My parents live in Richboro on a residential street that is 25mph. They had a minivan that was parked on the street one night and someone plowed it so hard it threw the body off the frame, and then they took off. Never caught the guy.

Then a year later, it happens again with a new minivan. This time the van got pushed accross the road and up a hill, and the car that hit it was dissabled. So i'm home now, I hear it, and I chase the guy up the street in my boxers and get a real good look at him, and I know where he lives. So I call the possie. I'm in the local FD, so just about ever cop on duty, and some that just got off, come out to play, and we pull the guy out of the house with cuts and scapes from the airbag and he says he has been sleeping all night. He's drunk, and this would be his 3rd DUI. So I chill out, and the cops call me the next day and ask me to come in. My friend John says that someone confessed to doing it, but it wasn't him. He chuckles slightly and asks me if I chased the guy, and I say yes, then asks if I couldn't catch him, and I say yes, then he really starts to laugh. Apparently the person that confessed was the guys girlfriend, and she only has one leg...

so now not only did this guys destroy my parents van, now i'm being made fun of because I couldn't catch a lady with one leg. Now I know it wasn't her, but she decided to take the hit for it.

It has taken all that I could muster to not go down there and firebomb the guys vette that is parked in the driveway, but my father calmed me and my brother down and told us that it wouldn't solve anything.

Very frustrating, but at least they got your guy and will hopefully take him off the road.

glad to hear you 2 are ok. Hope the insurance takes care of all the damage. good luck!!!

The ending of that story is the Key.

And thats why Life is funny with how things work...Her wasting that 5 seconds to grab her keys happened for a reason.

Glad your ok...cars can be replaced.

To the original poster, two positive things to reflect on...one has already been said, you're both alright (which is great). The other thing is, at least it wasn't your car, which would have been FAR more expensive to repair (if it would even be able to get back to it's pre-crash condition).

To be fair...you are slow.

That sucks but you guys are lucky.. I was almost killed by a drunk driver in 2000. I was hit head on at about 45-50mph each way after they swerved into my lane and spent a month in the hospital. This is what my car looked like afterwards.

CORRECT! It is indeed the tow truck driver. The drunk was already off to jail about 30 minutes before the two truck driver showed up.
