How bad is the rot? From my experience, if it's clear through in more than one spot, it's going to need some serious work. 2Gs biggest downfall.

I know A LOT of people who have had this issue. 1) Most people don't value their DSM to much and just scrap it and put the parts towards a better shell. (99% it is the best option)
2)They try and fix it and it ends up being a horrible repair or just a temp patch to sell the car to another unsuspecting buyer. This always ends up bad and everyone i know who did it and kept the car for a decent amount of time regretted it. 3) There are those people who want to keep their shell & fix it properly. The common strut tower rot is the passenger side. To buy a new OEM shock tower for the passenger side is impossible since they no longer produce them or have any around. You in luck though because last i checked i know mitsu had the driver side in stock. One member on here cut a "mint" tower out of a parts car and he and his father welded in the new tower over a period of time at their body shop. I myself had passenger side tower rust and recently had it fixed. I spoke with multiple shops, some vendors on here some not, and picked a local place and had them remake the top of the tower. It actually came out better then I ever expected and even though I haven't had the car back on the road yet it looks like it is going to be good for the long run.

My dsm is worth enough to me that I invested the money. Yours may be to far gone or just may cost to much money to fix since you need both addressed. It's really something your going to need to decide on your own. Start calling around to body shops that have been in business for a while or "hot rod" custom type shops who do metal work. My tower doesn't looked patched, modified, or anything. Looks OEM as can be so you need to find someone good whether your having it patched, completely remade, or having new towers installed.

I personally would never mess with a car with strut tower rust. Frame rails, wheel wells, and floor pans are one thing, but holes in the strut tower just bother me way too much. I have had my fair share of experience with rust having owned a couple of old Datsuns, I made sure they were free of any strut tower rust.

My opinion: If the rot is that bad, part the car out and scrap the body, especially if the car has rot in other places. It might end up costing you more then what the car is worth to fix that rust, and trust me, rust repair can get very expensive very quick, especially if you want it to look good. You might have better luck finding a new shell that doesn't have strut tower rust.

I have a few if you're looking for shells with zero rust/rot.

I have a few of these cars that are too far rotted in the towers/rear wheels wells aswell. I have them just sitting in a field, Rotting away into the ground. It's sad!

I just saw the title and the first thing that popped to mind was "Hmmmm, must be a 2G DSM." Anyway, I know of a few people that have fixed the rot, it all depends on how bad it is. If the shell is in semi-good condition and the only thing with a lot of rot is the strut towers I would keep it and just get them welded up. Take it to a local body shop if possible and just ask for a quote, if it isn't too expensive it might be worth it.

To properly fix this would take a very experienced body shop thats good at metal work. Not some run of the mill place, or a "young kid." Really need to pick the shop wisely.

^ I agree. If you are actually going to pay someone to fix your strut towers you need to make sure they aren't just welding in some **** metal or filling the holes with filler because it'll crack a block down the road, Guarnteed. Sometimes when people try to fix the strut towers, They only make it worse then it originally was, And weaker.
