BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — The Montana Highway Patrol says four people were killed and another was injured in a head-on crash on an Interstate 90 frontage road on the Crow Indian Reservation.

The patrol says a Ford Mustang collided with a disabled Dodge Durango between Dunmore and Crow Agency at about 6 p.m. Thursday.

The 41-year-old Hardin woman driving the Mustang died at the hospital in Crow Agency while her passengers, a 17-year-old boy from Hardin and a 19-year-old woman from Crow Agency, died at the scene.

A 27-year-old Crow Agency man in the Durango also died, while the 25-year-old Crow Agency man who was driving was hospitalized. The patrol says only the survivor was wearing a seat belt.

The crash remains under investigation. The victims' names haven't been released.

All I am thinking about is how a women killed someones kids, because she crashed head on into a non moving car... Girl has to be going pretty fast for that many casualties in a wreck that involved 1 moving car.

I don't agree with that. She could be going the speed limit, 35, 45, 55 MPH and could have killed everyone very easily. No seatbelts & 55 MPH into a stopped object = almost certain death for all non-restrained people.

I t-boned someone in my Jeep at 50 with out a seat belt, and I wasn't anywhere close to certain death. Just a little rash from the airbag.

That's great if you're in the front seat...

We had a girl paralyzed when she crashed in her HS parking lot doing 8 MPH. Hit her head on the windshield in an awkward way. I've seen people paralyzed or DOA from accidents at far slower speeds than 55 MPH. But I guess that's just my personal experience...

Can't imagine more than 1 person sitting in the back seat during this... Unless the women in the Mustang made a 17 and 19 year old cram into the backseat.

2X. It isn't just how fast you are going. All it takes is being hit at the wrong angle and bamn. Your dead.

I hate seat belts, but I always put them on when I am driving. But since putting a 4-pt harness in the Sentra, I really don't mind them anymore, but the harness is a lot more comfortable then any stock seat belt. But what can you really say; they do save lives.

I'm a little confused..... so this lady drove head on into a non-moving truck..... and ontop of that, a passanger in the disabled truck was sitting in the car with their seatbelt on??? What the hell were they doing? "oh **** the car died..... lets just stay in here and pretend nothing happened"

I've been on the side of the road in a disabled vehicle before. While waiting for AAA to show with some gas (love broken fuel gauges and inaccurate trip odo's) I leave my seatbelt on....

Ok, that's not really a good example... Its just a freak accident. People can run faster than 8mph.

No point in debating. The women hit one of the biggest SUV's on the road, while it was stopped, and killed the passenger so I am voting on speeding, but i guess we will wait for an update to find out.

I totaled my car and had no seatbelt on and thank god i wasnt seriously injured. I always wear my seatbelt now even if im riding in the back.

Rado_VR6 01-02-2012 11:07 AM

I don't even start the car until everyone has their seatbelts on. I'm not gambling with anyone's life like that. My ex gf was thrown from her car in a roll over and crushed when the car landed on her. Tried to warn her about the seatbelt thing, but she like many people thought it was uncool and uncomfortable.

Yea they say your safer in a vehicle if you are broken down or something along a highway... FK THAT!!!!!!! i always stand way out of the way and watch oncoming cars even if I have to change a tire My main concern is whats coming towards me if a police officer don't have his lights on aiding me. I can see being in an accident on the highway and spun out and cars are coming unless you have a chance to get the hell out and run.

Here's a pretty good example.. But then again not really sure if everyone else was wearing there seatbelt. Obviously one wasn't for sure and is dead.

rocknrace03 01-02-2012 12:40 PM

^ like he said, i won't leave the driveway until everyone is belted down, I've been driving race cars since i was 10, and trust me, i've wrecked hard at well over 100mph, and walked away no problem, and although i know theres a roll cage and such around me, it would mean nothing with out the seat belts. take the few seconds and put it on, you don't just have to worry about yourself, theres other people out there too, some who should never be driving....but do

pic of a hard wreck, got hit coming out of the turn, hit the wall full throttle at around 85mph

That's no good, As Billings is known for the Crow Tribe. Childhood friend and his family are from there. Not really relevant to the story, there's a fair amount on drunk driving going on, on the rez.

WolfsFang 01-02-2012 03:44 PM

i still dont understand how this lady hit a Durango the size of a tank. Was she driving with her eyes closed or something. I use to never wear a seatbelt when i was a child since my older friends would tell me it would slice my next if their was a crash. Lucky im not gullible anymore.
