Back in the DSM game *New Maple Grove Results!!*

I recently picked up a 89 5.0 gt with 74xxx miles. This thing looks to have been to hell and back. The previous owner removed the GT bumpers/sideskirts and went with LX ones. I'll be keeping those but getting rid of the GT taillights. 5spd car with factory 3.08's rather than 2.73s. Plans include doing all the body work and new paint. Motor/drivetrain wise I'm thinking some 4.10s + bolt ons. (hoping for reliable 12s).

Didn't take any pictures before hand but I picked up a 3" cowl hood (stock hood was dented beyond belief. Made new hinge mounts and fixed all the cracks, here it is on the car. *note - this is before i installed the hood pins which lets the hood sit lower and flush

Can't wait to see how this turns out. I'm a big fan of fox body's. Good luck with it

<3 me a fox body.

nice! always wanted one of these.

Sweet! I had an '85 fox and sometimes I regret gettign rid of it. The body was nearly perfect and so was the interior. The motor unfortunately didn't do well after Sunoco filled the gas tank up with diesel fuel.

How the f^ck?!

This is for sure my favorite body style when it comes to Mustangs. A guy I work with has had quite a few and they always turn out looking and sounding mean! Can't wait to see how this progresses!

Good luck with it...my brother had a 89' that had a ton of work into it. Only good thing is parts are cheap now a days

PunkboySL2 09-05-2011 09:49 AM

We need to boost it

Sunoco's tanker truck driver filled up the unleaded gasoline tanks with Diesel fuel at several gas stations in my area. I'm not sure if it was the truck driver's fault or if it was filled incorrectly at the refinery/filling station.

Since Sunoco has much better attorneys than I could ever afford, all I got out of it was a refund for the tank of gas, a new fuel filter and the tank drained and cleaned.

Sunoco claimed it was diesel, but the local mechanic that did a lot of the tank draining and cleaning work claimed it smelled like kerosene. It makes me wonder if it was jet fuel.

Well, I've been super busy at work and with things around the house so nothing new happened with it. I did however pick up a Garrett TP38, 1.10 a/r T4 turbo, which will be the first component to start building my turbo setup. More updates to come.

Haha should be fun. I've built two foxbody's. The one I'm selling is exactly what you're building (minus turbo). :(

Will turbo really work with 4.10s? I know with my '02 GT and the blower, 4.10s aren't really going to work out well. I have 4.10s sitting around right now brand new never used.

100% agree with that. I missed that, or else I probably would've said the same thing. Most turbo FoxBodys I've seen run anywhere from 3.08 to 3.55. Most won't even use 3:73s.

92awdtsi 09-30-2011 06:45 PM

I didn't buy the gears yet, I'll most likely just keep my 3.08s now.

OMGz Turbo 09-30-2011 07:29 PM

id look 3.31 IMO

So today I was going over my car, (trying to figure out how much work it really needed) and I couldn't stop staring at the windshield (original) and how the "saleen" letters are sun faded into the glass from the sticker being on for so many years. (previous owner) So I did some research, all the numbers that should be there in my vin and consol id are. I also thought it was odd that I have LX bumpers with left over glue from a bodykit at one point, and its titled a GT. Apparently the Saleen body kits only fit onto LX bumpers. So hopefully my one buddy can get back to me soon about if its a legit one or not. I'm hoping I fell into some luck here. They made 549 hatchback saleens in '89. I hope I have one.

MattBear 10-23-2011 08:21 PM

im not a fox kinda guy, but if you have a legit saleen with that many original miles, seeing how rare it is, thats pretty cool. i LOVE oddball cars, I hope its the real deal!

92awdtsi 10-24-2011 10:49 AM

Well, just got off the phone with saleen. It is infact not a legit saleen. I guess the previous owner tried to make it one. O well, now onto the rebuilding.

92awdtsi 01-20-2012 09:49 PM

i've since sold the mustang and recently picked up a '84 corvette, 150k miles, automatic, crossfire injection. It needs body work and new seats but runs and drives just fine. Here's a quick pic of how it looked when I got it.

I will be taking it to work when it starts warming(feb-march) up to do all the body work and paint. I'm gonna shoot it black to keep it original. Engine wise, I'm pulling all the CFI crap off of it and going with a carburetor. So much easier and reliable. A power goal of 350-400whp is about where i would like to end up. I figure heads/cam/intake/carb should get me close, then I'll just use nitrous to fill the gap. More than likely a set of 4.10s in the rear, possibly some c4 zr1 wheels and thats it. (I hope)
