347gtvert 03-16-2006 04:58 PM

3,000 just like any other

2point0T 03-17-2006 10:19 AM

i thought with pure synthetic u can go like 5k or something, so i assuming with a blend it might have been longer than

Intercooled T 03-17-2006 10:29 AM

Pure/Full synthetic, change as normal, 2-3k miles, depending on how anal you are

:iagree: If u beat on your car, 3k is definitly 2 long.

Intercooled T 03-17-2006 10:48 AM

Full synthetic is also like $7/quart @ NAPA, DO NOT BUY THAT CRAP

2point4DSM 03-17-2006 10:52 AM

It really depends on how tight your motor is and how much you beat it. A worn motor is going to have a lot more blowby and overcome the protection properties of the oil sooner.

3000 miles is an average for people that drive their cars normally.

Don't extend the intervals. I don't remember the exact numbers, but for motor oil to be sold and labeled as "synthetic blend", it needs a very, very low percentage of actual synthetic in it. In other words, don't buy synthetic blend.

Are you saying synthetic oil is not worth it?

Intercooled T 03-17-2006 12:13 PM

Full Synthetic, @ $7/quart for a regular street car, yes.

Race car? Why the hell not

[EDIT] I personally use QuakerState Synthetic Blend 10w30, of course I like synthetic blends

Full synthetic is worth it (IMO of course) it stands up to high temps much, much better. Anyone with a turbo car should be running it, in my opinion. Also, I stick by blends not being worth it. There is no standard for amount of syn. stock in a blend...you are paying more for a small amount of syn. stock (and mostly not true syn.) with base stocks...

YMMV

Intercooled T 03-17-2006 04:25 PM

some is better than none :) i understand what your saying though. synthetic blends are not that much more than regular oil these days. 5 quart bottle of synthetic blend 10w30 is 10-12 bucks

HuggyBear 03-17-2006 05:59 PM

syn blend is not really that great as its base oils are not ester based, instead they are crude based and need to be changed every 2-3K. Premium quality oils such as AMSOIL or Motul or Veruspeed oil can go for periods of 10-13K with 3k filter changes.

Standard Mobil1 and every other oil on the market does not protect to the abilities as the oils I've mentioned above.

vDevilu 03-29-2006 05:19 PM

I am running Full Syn 5w40 Elf Oil (french) I change my oil every 10k. Full Syn is good stuff.

KrautFed20V 03-29-2006 06:54 PM

i run AMSOIL 0w-30 have the oil analyzed @ 3000 mile intervals, i'm currently running on 12k mi and the report came back as i don't need to change yet. but i'm going to change it next week.

2point0T 03-31-2006 10:54 PM

so 12k off of synth blend? do you driive your car hard?

EvlEgl 04-15-2006 01:10 AM

I can't run Mentally drive my car on 12k old oil no matter what the "Report comes back"

Amsoil isn't all it's cracked up to be...the properties are better by 3 or 4 degrees when it comes to breakdown.

Mobil 1 since day 1.

S4toSTI 04-15-2006 03:17 AM

Ok first off someone saying that 3k miles is too long is nuts second, I had a mini a few cars ago and the reccomended service interval was 10k just a fyi.

TROLL 04-15-2006 03:21 AM

yeah 3000 is a popular number to go by but it is definitely not the rule. i have read numerous accounts from WRX owners using Mobil 1 5w-30 and a Purolator PureOne filter having great oil analysis results at 7k miles for one guy and 9k miles for the other. after reading that, I have the confidence to change my oil every 5k miles without a care in the world.

On Sale 04-15-2006 03:53 AM

i dont change my oil, i change my filter... the oil just flows out of cracks and holes and i just pour more in, as i go along, and i put 4 quarts in every 3k miles, so no need to change ... what do u expect its a dsm.

im just kidding.
