Anyone use plasti dip?
 

I heard about this stuff from a buddy of mine who sprayed his rims for a nice matte black finish (which came out looking amazingly good). So that sprung my interest and thought I'd spray my chrome clads for a different look since it peels right off. I just wanna get some feedback from people who have used it. It's an alternative for me since I don't want to permanently change the wheels and because they can't be powdercoated. Thanks for any help

I've used it a few times for a few different things. It's pretty awesome stuff, I've had really good uses with it reconditioning interior parts (door handles, sliders etc)

The spray can and the actual "Dip" are both pretty awesome just depends on what you're using them for and who's brand. I believe there's 3 but "Plasti-dip" is someones trademarked name, and usually the one people refer to.

I used it on wheels for one autocross season, they held up nicely for about a month but after that gravel and other stuff started to break into the finish. The only problem is that the stuff is meant to come off easily so once you get it to start peeling, you can't just touch it up. It's been over a year now since I've used it and the stuff has gained a lot of popularity. I wouldn't be surprised if they have a tougher one available for wheels and exterior.

i had various parts on my mini plasti-dipped (hood scoop, headlight rings, door handles, etc) worked great and came off easily when i got sick of it.

Some guy on DSMTuners.com painted his whole car with it. It actually looked pretty good.

a lot of the 4g eclipse guys use it to black out their bumper works good just avoid high pressure sprays when cleaning.

I bought a can to do some interior pieces on the Miata, but I never got around to it while I was on spring break. I like the satin/flat black look of it.

It works well for what it is, but really isn't made for big stuff. Why can't your wheels be powdercoated?

It's only plastic, not chrome. That's why they call it chrome clad

**** i didnt think they still made this stuff, I've looked everywhere for it.

I've used it several times on bumper grills, holds up extremely well. It's found at The Home Depot AFAIK.

I picked up 3 cans yesterday at Home Depot and will be doing my wheels tomorrow morning

aj at vibrant finish can paint ur wheels...chrome clad wont be an issue...my old rims were chrome clad and painted black

The only thing is that I like the fact that if it grows old, I can always peel it off and the wheels will be perfectly fine.

def not gonna look good though...especially on wheels...it'll be funny when u wash them and it starts peelin off...but go for it...

Oh it'll look good. And its not something that peels off easily like right after a few washes. Its meant to be durable
