TST Track day at Pocono July 16th and 17th *promo code and link to reg now up*

Ok this has been on my mind for quite some time and thanks to Chris.B we are going to make this happen.

Event: NASA Track day at Pocono Raceway (waiting to find out which layout) There will also be two NASA races each about 30 minutes in length that will happen this weekend.
Date: July 16th and 17th 2011 you may sign up for one day or both
Pricing: TBA however a rough estimate would be 250 for one day and under 500 for two with a discount applied if we have at least ten people coming out. Also required is a NASA membership for insurance purposes. The membership is all of $45 and includes a subscription to Grassroots motorcports magazine and also several discounts that may be seen here: NASA

Requirements: How the payments will be made and etc.. will be posted after the final price is known. However you should know a tech inspection wil be performed the morning of the event. This is manditory and is performed by an NASA inspector. This is in no way related to me so if there is something you don't feel your car will pass please do not pm me it is not neogtiable and is for your safety and the safety of those on the track with you. Also a helmet, long sleeved shirt and pants are required. Details given below.

TECH INSPECTION REQUIREMENTS:
  • The cars will be inspected in the morning before the event.
  • Loose items removed, no Ez Pass, items hanging from mirror, CD's from visor, etc.
  • Fan, alternator, AC and Power Steering belts are tight and not cracked
  • Properly secured battery; terminals clean and in good condition (no bungees)
  • All body panels must be secured and not rubbing on tires or scraping the
    ground
  • Pads must have at least 50% material left. Rotors must meet factory specs and have no excessive surface cracks.
  • Brake lines must be clear of wheels and not have any cracks. Fresh brake fluid is recommended before each event.
  • Motor mounts must be in good condition. No oil leaks, no fuel leaks
  • Radiator, hoses, and reservoir must be in good condition. No leaks!
  • Brake lights must be in working order and visible to all drivers.
  • At least one rear view mirror must be securely mounted.
  • Street tires must have at least 3/32" tread depth. Race tires must be in good condition with no cracks or bulges in side walls or have cords showing.
  • Lug nuts must be torqued to factory specs. Bent or cracked wheels are not acceptable.
  • All open cars, soft tops, and open race cars, must have adequate roll bars. The deployable roll bars are adequate for all tracks except for LIME ROCK. The driver in all open cars will be subject to the broomstick test. Roll bars must be covered with closed cell foam padding in any place where a helmet could come in contact with the bar.
  • Exhaust - Muffled, securely mounted, good condition. No cracked or deteriorated hangers. We and the track management reserve the right to prohibit excessively noisy vehicles from using the track (89dB limit for Lime Rock).
  • Metal to metal seat belts securely mounted (driver and passenger) 4-POINT harnesses not meeting DOT FMVSS 209 ARE NOT PERMITTED. 5-POINT OR 6-POINT SAFETY HARNESS MAY NOT BE USED WITH STOCK SEAT UNLESS PASSED BY TECH INSPECTION. The installation of non-factory restraint systems must meet Manufacturers Safety Specificaions. ON VEHICLES IN WHICH A PASSENGER MAY BE CARRIED (ie: STUDENTS REQUIRING INSTRUCTORS OR INSTRUCTORS CARRYING STUDENTS), THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEATS AND RESTRAINT SYSTEMS MUST BE MATCHING. For example no 5 point harness fro the driver and stock seatbelt for passenger.
  • No cracks or obstructions on the windshield and all devices hanging from the mirror must be removed
  • Other equipment - The mounting and installation of such equipment must be inspected for safety. This includes sound equipment, devices
  • such as the g-analys, in-car video & timing equipment is restricted to those run groups not requiring instructors or otherwise approved. Any camera must be installed before this inspection and secured metal to metal including a safety strap around the camera.
The helmets required are a Snell SA2005 or newer helmet. The SA2010 Helmet is good for 10 years. The SA2005 helmet expires in 2015. They sometimes have loaner helmets available at the events. I've found SA2010 helmets available online for $140 and JSC speed also sells Pyrotect open face SA2005 helmets for $148.95. Post up if you will be needing a helmet and maybe we can see about getting a group discount from one of the vendors on TST.

There are two groups that provide track day insurance for street cars. If you damage or total your car, they will pay to repair or replace it. You have to document aftermarket modifications if you want more than book value for the car if its damaged or totaled. Chris.B will be able to provide us with information on which he has used in the past.

Thanks again to Chris.B for all of his hard work, and of course NASA for giving us the oppurtunity to join in with this event. If this event goes smoothly there will be more scheduled. For anyone who was with us on the previous fall runs please be assured this will be the same group of people, we will be grabbing dinner afterward as is our tradition and it's just going to be a blast.

Count me in.

Erik@R/TTuning 01-31-2011 11:19 AM

For me it will be a matter of if my cage is in the car by then or not which all comes down to budget. I'd like to but can't commit at this time.

Ender81 01-31-2011 11:33 AM

Erik I can understand that. I decided to post this up well before anyone would need to commit to it so that if someone does want to come they have time to put money aside, get their car ready etc.. hope we will see you there :)

Subie_sleeper 01-31-2011 02:39 PM

Hahahahaha........

The Baja is out of the running......

Side exit...... :(

Ender81 01-31-2011 02:56 PM

Why would the side exit prevent it? I don't think it would rate as excessively loud and I don't think it says stock location, just that it be secure.

Honest_Bob 01-31-2011 02:57 PM

I'm in!

Ender81 01-31-2011 03:06 PM

I thought you would be lol.

PAdutch 01-31-2011 03:13 PM

Man this sounds like fun. Bump for more people to sign up. Im on the fence.

Ender81 01-31-2011 03:18 PM

Well the nice part is even if we don't have a ton of people from here we have attatched ourselves to NASA so their people will be there :)

oneday 01-31-2011 04:24 PM

Oh boy, my the second half of July is going to be busy: There is the Philly SCCA Double-Cross on the 17th at Wells Fargo and I can not miss that....then I am instructing at Pocono on the 18th (and maybe 19th)....then at NJMP for Grand-Am the 22-24 (just spectating at that one)... then down to VIR for a 24-hour race the 29-31....Might need to make a point of heading up on the 16th (maybe I'll see if they need any instructors for all you newbs).

Ender81 01-31-2011 05:57 PM

Lol well we do have a NASA instructor who shows up at the Applebee's meets on occassion I don't know if will be joining us but I can say that I for one would appreciate have an instructor there for me since this will be my first track day.

If it's your first track day and NASA is running the program, then you won't have a choice but to have an instructor for the entire day. If you've done a few HPDEs but not on the course that you are running that day, then you will probably have an instructor for a session or two--until they are comfortable that you are not a serious threat to anyone else in your run group.

Ender81 01-31-2011 06:34 PM

I forgot I was told that, that was required. Well I know Chris won't need one but I will.
