Anyone know where to get a LCD TV fixed?

my 47" LG LCD tv is broke, i've had it for a couple of years so i cant get the mfg to get it fixed. So i need a 3rd party place to go to. The screen turns on for about 2 seconds and then it goes black but sound still works. Anyone have ideas on what it could be? This problem was intermediate for a bit until it a couple of days ago.

So is there a place or anyone near philly that could fix this problem?

Thanks!

for what you spend on getting it fixed you should just get a tv on black friday IMO

yea but the whole idea of getting up early and dealing with the crowd isnt really appealing....so i guess we'll see if any online place has good deals....

are you hooking straight up via hdmi? is it a problem with a receiver possibly?
try component and see if the video still shows through.

cant even get the tuner to show....i can see channels for that brief 2 seconds...

sounds like something is overheating... open her up and see if any heat sinks came off.

empera 11-22-2010 01:28 PM

opened it up and didnt see anything unusual....shook things, moved things and nothing seemed to be loose...

Scapegoat 11-22-2010 01:33 PM

i'm out of ideas then. the issue seems very similar to perhaps a cpu without a heatsink on it. runs for an instant but shuts off as soon as it reaches a critical temp.

weird issue cause it used to do this once in a while....i would just have to turn it on and off a couple of times until it stayed on....but this time its pretty much permanent.

they wanted 700 to fix my 32 inch sony (burn in) just over a year ago... went and got a new one

FYI buy new TV's with your visa credit card... after the one year warranty the credit card company gives you another year warranty ontop of it, its how i got my money back. (they wont tell you they do this though)

could be an issue with the internal av switch
sometimes hdmi switch.

I have had to fix that same issue with laptop LCD's. Its most likely the back light or the LCD inverter. I suspect its the LCD inverter being I have seen laptops screens turn on for a split second and turn back off. Swapped in a replacement inverter and good as new. No idea if you can get a replacement inverter for that and as well easy/cheap to replace?

I type that model # on google to see if you can find any guides or suggestions about it.

empera 11-22-2010 10:54 PM

hmmm yea i'll give that a try...thanks bud

Take a flashlight to the screen to see if you can actually see the picture or not. That will help you determine if it is the backlight or something else. If it is just the backlight you will still see the picture it will just be very dark. If you got nothing at all it is something else such as the inverter as stated above.

Yup I knew that was going to be the problem. It maybe easy to fix depending no where there hide it inside that TV. Just gotta find a replacement part.

Will check my sources for you.

Could have been that replacement part is defective as well.

If that didn't fix it could be the LCD blacklight which may not be worth it...
