Underground Racing TT Gallardo wrecks at Texas Mile

I assume most of you know about the Texas mile, and even if not, you'll want to see this.

The UR Gallardo that went 250.1 last year at the mile, seen here: Underground Racing 250 MPH Twin-Turbo Lamborghini at the Texas Mile

was trying to surpass his record this year, but ended in tragedy when this happened: Underground Racing Twin Turbo Gallardo Crashes At 200+MPH Texas Mile

Google can help you find anymore info that you may want. It's all over the forums.

It seems from watching both videos it's all driver error.

ambitiousCK 10-26-2010 11:25 PM

sounds like a ****ing jet lol

Fujito 10-26-2010 11:27 PM

The car was obviously sick of going in a straight line and wanted to make some turns.

Vr-4-Life 10-26-2010 11:35 PM

thats horrific... i cant believe anyone made it out alive.....

Vinny 10-26-2010 11:40 PM

That's intense...thank goodness he survived and walked away! Safety first kids!

There has been a lot of discussion on this. Apparently there is more than meets the eye in both videos. By that I mean, there may, or may not, have been strategy to the spins after the mile in the first video, and that there were numerous factors in the second video that ultimately led to the demise of the car.

Also, FWIW, the Gallardo put down just south of 2000whp before the mile. I wanna say it was in the 17-1800whp range?

I would have to agree. That was a nice car though.

I am really amazed that he survived. It is surprising how far safety precautions have come to save lives from the wildest of crashes.

I'm surprised he got away from that with a roll bar and what looked like a harness and a helmet, if anything I think his safety precautions were lacking. I wish that second vid had the quality of the first.

still trying to figure out why the hell you would spin your lambo out on purpose.

amd also, if he didnt need the chute in the first one why did he need it in the second one? he probably forgot it was there and went to do more 360's:roll:

The car had a full cage, harness, and fire suppression system done by UR, I guess.

I guess back in March, he wasn't comfortable with reaching to where the lever for the chute was at, so he went with spinning it to scrub speed. Obviously, it would have been smarter to work up your speed getting comfortable with the chute, but he wanted 250. This time they're saying the chute unsettled the car and a cross wind caught it and made it veer off course, which resulted in contact with a small barrier, and then... well...
