200,000 mile Evo 8

Thought this was pretty impressive. An owner on EvoM with 200,000 miles. And the car still looks great.

But he spoke too soon.... "At 208,564 miles my timing belt snapped!!"

Before i owned it my Talon had 180k on the clock, i put probably 15k on it since ive owned it.

Still very impressive. And looks like the OP of this thread is working his way to 200 slowly as well.

Yeah, I read that too. They seem to have narrowed the cause of the problem to the car being parked on a hill, car in first gear, and a weak parking brake. Low compression may have allowed it to roll back far enough to skip or damage a tooth. Interesting hypothesis and I'll have to keep an eye on that thread. Still impressive non the less and he recently posted a parts list on his way to 200K.

Good to hear. Any major issues?

*Knocks on wood.* Thanks. My philosophy has definitely shifted towards maintenance being top priority these days. Maintenance is everything.

That's a lot of miles for such a newer car. Makes me appreciate my 1g even more. I got a 92 gsx with only 130k on the clock. Bought it 3 years ago with 128k. heh :)

knochgoon24 07-01-2010 03:18 PM

My DSM just rolled past 239,000 miles yesterday. :)
Now the body has that, but the motor was replaced by the PO at 125,000 miles because he NEVER changed the timing belt and it finally let go on him. They put a "used engine" in. What are the chances it had less than 90k miles? And I have the receipt from the engine replacement. The "used engine" is invoiced at $2850.

Still, props for putting 200,000 miles on a car 6 years younger than mine.

Ha and they always poke fun at DSM's for not being reliable

16gDSM 08-05-2010 01:11 AM

Haha damn that is a lot of miles!

DaveSTi 08-05-2010 10:43 AM

not surprised at all. i remember some 300,000 mile dsms being around. my old 90 talon had 179k and still had perfect compression.

kjs1820 08-22-2010 03:43 PM

I have seen a couple dsm with over 300k, a 3000gt vr4 with almost 300k a montero that broke over 500k one with 226k they are pretty reliable if the t belts are changed and aren't overheated ;)
