Just wondering why you ruled the S&W VE off your list.

It's a Sigma and nearly everything about it is junk, from the trigger to the action to the grip to reliability. That's just a guess of why he decided against it though!

More or less, compared to the glock and the springfield i didnt like the feel of it. It was the least comfortable i felt, and overall i juts didnt like it. I really liked the glock the best, however i did like the XD. The one thing i did note about the XD was that its slide action was much stiffer than the glock.

a few days ago i got a chance to mess around with a new Colt New Agent .45 at my local shop. before then i had always ignored anything 1911-style but for some reason i really liked the way it felt in my hands. i'd love to shoot one but renting a bunch of different models isn't exactly in the budget right now. after i got home i started looking at other compact 1911 models. i found the Colt Defender .45ACP (basically a 'geared up' New Agent)and i love the way that thing looks. anyway...

has anyone had any experience with Colt's compacts?

i always never liked the 1911's until i shot a Kimber ultra carry last week, it might be my favorite gun, shoots nice and is thin enough to carry comfortably, all you see if muzzle blast when you shoot it

LOL Got ya man. I've shot 600 rounds through mine without any problems and to me it feels fine but I'm still pretty new in the game so I don't have much to compare it too. I do however like the look of the Springfields alot and if I had the money probably would have went with the Sig 250.

i got your IM, i have a carry permit but no pistol.

you cant go wrong with a glock, or pretty much anything in that price range, especially if its used.

Take a look at the sig saur P250. your best bet is to just hold as many guns as you can before you decide.

dragonfly2k3 05-01-2009 09:03 AM

i have been trying to hold everything in my price range. Id like to go out and shoot some too.

I may have to do that. Now, I know i asked this before, but Im not sure I understand the answer.

I want to get a handgun before Im 21, Im not set on it being in my name, or even possesing it. I just want to get the gun before prices go up/bans are imposed. If I have my brother/father purchase it now, can it be put in my name? If not, will there be any issue transferring it to me later, or a high cap ban is imposed? Im 20, btw.

you can always have someone else (family member, friend, whatever) purchase the firearm. it will be in their name and legally theirs. when you turn 21 you can have the firearm legally transferred into your name (around $30-$40 at a gun shop) and thats it - its yours.

dragonfly2k3 05-01-2009 08:03 PM

if a ban is imposed post purchase on their part, will i still be able to transfer it? If not, i can always buy the gun, and just buy a few magazines. From what i understand most of the proposed bans are limiting magazinr capacity(just like the old one)

den9 05-02-2009 03:24 AM

i wouldnt worry about a ban honestly, just wait until your 21, that gives you plenty of time to save up and decide for what gun you want.

cburwell 05-02-2009 10:54 AM

I know many people are worried about a ban, but would that have an impact on handguns? I always thought they were more along the lines of rifles that would be banned.

DC2.2GSR 05-02-2009 11:51 AM

a future ban may or may not include certain handguns or other weapons, but we won't know until it gets put into effect. if the people in power had their way, you wouldn't be able to buy and own ANY gun. it's all a matter of waiting to see what they'll be able to get away with this time. the sheeple of the united states will go along with anything as long as it makes them feel safer.

before the '94 AWB, the term "assault weapons" wasn't even a term that anyone knew or understood. it was an invented term that was broad enough to encompass anything that looked 'scary'. take the 'scary black guns' away from people and voila... our country is safer, right?

if some kind of ban goes into effect, they may make it broader this time to cover some types of handguns as well. it's only possible because they can ban handguns as easily as the 'assault rifles'... since they make up terms and laws as they go. is it very likely? no. for that matter is it very likely that we'll get another ban at all? ehh.. possible, but i wouldn't worry about it yet. lots of people are worrying about the impending doom of a ban right now and all it's doing is driving prices up.
