2000 Passat GLX- Exhaust Issue

I keeping getting a code that reads Emmission Workshop on my in-dash display screen.

I took it to Auto-Zone and the guy said it was my smog pump. Has this happened to anybody else before?

Sounds like the ignition system, Check coil packs (problem on 1.8T), the wires, make sure the plugs are in tight (not too tight), also check your hoses.

Sounds like you have a VW lol. Start with the coil packs as mentioned above. It seems like no matter what your CEL is for if you take it to a dealership they will check those first anyway.

It's a 1.8T thing, I wouldn't understand :rotfl:

Maybe I should have mentioned this detail too.. smoke comes out from under the hood from the left side of the engine once its warmed up. Smells like burning plastic. It comes out where the downpipe is on a Subaru, that helps.

BTW, this car is N/A.

DropTopChevy 02-08-2008 03:17 PM

Cat may be plugged. Does the car run like a slug? Lack of power? What engine?

Ender81 02-08-2008 03:26 PM

If it is the 1.8T it could be your engine overlay harness. When I had my 1.8T Jetta I was told that, that melting is sometimes a problem. Wether or not that would cause smoke I don't know.

Nope. The car runs just fine. Idols normally and has plenty of power. It is the V6 engine. Dunno specs, I haven't researched this car like I did my WRX because I'm not planning on doing any mods to it.

P.S. the wifey is sporting a 2002 passat wagon 4motion now :). Gonna get her tinted next week. the car not the wife. cause she's irish and burns easily :P

SmokeyBandit 02-09-2008 01:48 AM

Any idea where I could get one of those done?

SmokeyBandit 02-12-2008 12:06 AM

www.ross-tech.com and a laptop.

Really? Where are you located?

DropTopChevy 02-14-2008 11:34 AM

Shes from the lower bucks county area. Send her a PM about it. I hate hearing about a problem with a 30V. Makes me worry about mine.

I live in Langhorne/Yardley area.

I am getting the passat tinted early next week at SOG. I can scan then if you want.

~Brian~ 02-15-2008 12:04 PM

When are you having the car tinted? I work everyday until 5 and with the traffic on the turnpike, I probably wouldn't make it down there until at least 7.

DropTopChevy 02-15-2008 04:12 PM

I wanna see the wagon tinted.
