No one "fights like real men" anymore, i'd be happy to throw hands with someone if that was the end of it but nowadays its not. Fighting is a joke, you can act super macho and want to get it in with someone but it doesn't do anything, I use to LOVE fighting I actually got kicked out of high school because I use to love to get into it then I realized all I am the next day is sore and in trouble its stupid.

I'm involved with plenty of hand to hand combat sports, i've trained MMA for a while but the last thing I want to do is get into it with some random schmuck on the street the costs far outweigh the benefits.

Carrying a gun isn't to get in a shootout its to be able to get away if your in a situation where you can't use your feet or fists, I don't want to hang around and get shot at **** that. Just because I live in a good area doesn't mean I spend my time in good areas, bad things happen in good places all the time. But again having a gun isn't to go looking for trouble it's if trouble should show up and you can't run you have a last option.

Who has what for a daily carry and what is your rig/placement? Im a bigger guy so with my frame my Glock 23 hides pretty well but my shirt bunches up on the grip sometimes, I need a good IWB rig what do you guys use?

I have an inside the pant holster that I keep on my left side cause I'm left handed. You can't really wear a T-shirt because like you said the grip part of the gun is clearly visible. I usually end up wearing a lose fitting button down shirt when I carry.

Comp-tac Mtac for my G26 at 4 o'clock, and also for my USPc .45, but that things too big for me to carry. I've tried about 20 different quality holsters (and a bunch of crappy holsters also), and the Mtac is by far the best in terms of comfort and concealment (as far as IWB's go).

in response to blkz06 i feel you on the fighting tip, no one really is just going to fight on the street, and i got into a fight in december and felt like such a third grader afterwards when my hand was swollen and it was hard to work. can someone tell me what the "rules" about carrying are, i mean really just specifically what if someone happens to see it? i have an in the pant holster and it works well to conceal, but certain movements i make i just swear everyone can see i have a pistol.

DC2.2GSR 05-12-2009 07:27 PM

if someone happens to see it, it's no big deal at all. sure it may make a few people uncomfortable, but that's their problem. if you're a law abiding citizen then it's your right to carry for all lawful reasons.

if your firearm becomes visible while carrying concealed, it's into the realm of "open carry", which is perfectly legal. IIRC, the gun must be properly holstered, not just shoved into a waistband. there's an entire movement behind it. people are finally becoming aware of their rights. the general public thinks it's illegal, but yes YOU can walk around with a firearm strapped to the outside of your clothing just like any police officer. what do i think? ehh... i'm up in the air about it. but... is it legal? yep.

if you haven't already, i suggest everyone join up over at www.PAFOA.org . visit the Concealed and Open Carry section, read the stickies, and just read until your eyes don't work anymore. there's so much info there, all related to firearms in PA.

**edit: i just noticed you're in Philly. if you're actually within city limits, i know for a fact that the laws are different. definitely read up on that forum to be sure.

well technically im in montgomery county and thats what my CCW permit says, i read alot of stuff on PAFOA and i see that OC is legal but i just feel uncomfortable with everyone just staring at a man with a gun. I saw some guy in warminster the other day with a gun on his side and i was just watching him like is he a cop or something?

I wear my XD9 (Service model, 4" barrel) in a Don Hume 721 open top OWB strong side holster daily. I am larger as well, 6'2", 225-230 lbs. I am sure the grip prints a bit, but I deal.

I generally wear untucked button downs, polos and T-shirts. The holster is pretty high-rise and the muzzle doesn't poke out underneath my shirts. If I stretch to get something up high, I can flash a bit of leather. Oh well.

People don't pay attention to much of anything, and I have never had an issue.

DC2 is absolutely correct.

Open carry is legal in PA w/no license needed except for a city first class, such as Philly. If you have a LTCF, you may openly carry in a city first class, such as Philly.

Please do not think I am suggesting the local gendarmes will not harass you for openly carrying a pistol. While perfectly legal, it can be frowned upon by a local PD. From a strictly legal standpoint though, it is perfectly OK.

DC2 is also correct in suggesting to browse PAFOA.org. A few TSTer's are over there. DC2 - I am by the same name over there, nice to meet you.

I hear you man. Even though OC is legal, its not something I personally want to deal with.

Part of me is torn, because rights are like many things...if you don't exercise them, you lose them...but I personally would rather have the tactical advantage of stealth. I do not present myself as carrying a firearm, and I'd rather the person next to me looking at chicken in the grocery store is not aware.

DC2.2GSR 05-13-2009 01:15 AM

ahh that's it. the 'city of the first class' thing. i knew philly was different but i couldn't think of the specifics for the life of me.

open carry vs. concealed carry is something that i'm also torn about. on one hand i think it's awesome to know your rights and be free to do as the law allows. on the other, i see no real point in carrying openly because as you mentioned, there's no tactical advantage. the entire reason i want to carry concealed is so that in the extremely unfortunate even that i have to use my weapon, i'll have an edge because the 'bad guy' doesn't have any idea that i have my weapon. that's better for everyone involved. when it comes down to it, i really don't want anyone other than a few select friends and family members knowing that/what i carry. if i go through a day without having to let anyone know - it has been a good day.

in my personal opinion, a lot of the open carry advocates have taken things beyond exercising their rights and gone directly to causing problems. a lot of them feel like badasses because they carry their guns around like cowboys. sure it's their right to do so, but many of them only do it to draw attention and then say ''hey wait, it's legal! see! see!" when someone makes a fuss about it. many problems can be avoided by simply carrying concealed. you gain an advantage should a situation arise, and you stay invisible to the general public, which should be on everyone's mind. but, then again.. these people have made a hobby out of it. they have 'open carry meets' like we here have car meets. they enjoy making scenes and 'defending their rights' when being questioned by both police and everyday people they meet. some of them have even made a career out of it. civil suits are becoming more popular by the day.

btw, my name is the same on PAFOA.org as well. good to meet you too. i'm not a very active member over there, but i sure do read a lot. lol.

dragonfly2k3 05-18-2009 11:59 PM

So i went out again today shopping. 2 more guns that i really liked alot. The sig p250 compact, and teh H&K USP compact. Both felt awesome, and I like the true saftey plus decocker on the H&K. the hk raises my price range a bit, but i liked the slide release, as well as the saftey. the sig didnt have the features the others had, but for being double action felt super smooth.
