I miss being in New York as often as I do. I find myself at peace there, cause it's one of the few places that is more hectic than my own life, and oddly that calms me.
|
I used to go to NYC a lot... but not so much anymore. It's expensive and I don't really have the time anymore. I work and travel too much to warm place to do that! :P

I know michelle! Im so excited! ps... Just sent you a text
Completely understandable rob, and nick. lol I feel like it'll be fun since it's something new to do, but at the same time it's gonna be wicked cold and hectic probably since we're only going for the day. I've only been to NYC once on a field trip in 6th grade. We went to the UN building, statue of liberty and the Hard Rock Cafe. Awesome. I'm looking forward to seeing the tree and hopefully finding one of the Serendipity shops. Mmm and hoping that all of their delicious desserts aren't made with milk so I can possibly get something there with soy milk. Anyone have any suggestions of things to do while we're there? |
Empire State building isn't too good. The vew is cool, but def not worth the wait to get in. I also didn't see what was so great about Canel Street. It was just a bunch of knockoffs sold there and most weren't even nice quality. I would suggest seeing the tree, maybe hitting central park. I wish I knew more but was on'y there once myself too. Def get an all day subway pass though.

Awesome Jay, thanks. Idk if I'd be up for the Empire State Building anyway, I'm wicked afraid of heights and get claustrophobic in certain situations. And seeing as I buy the real thing as opposed to knock-offs I probably wouldn't be interested in that either. Maybe to people watch but that's it really. Central park would be nice for sure, thanks for the subway pass suggestion too. Do they really smell as bad as people say?

My suggestions to you, as we used to have a place in Manhattan, is take the train in. You can spend just as much time getting through the Holland Tunnel as you did on the turnpike getting there. Wear walking shoes as you will most likely get everywhere faster that way, if it's under 10 blocks, you can get there quicker on foot. I avoid taxi's myself, usually take the limos, since you pretty much write a death wish and increase your stress level even more.
Battery Park is cool when you're against the water and looking back at the city, Central park is almost a requisite. Take a stroll down 5th if you get a chance as well, even if you don't shop, the stuff you'll see will amaze you and Dan will love the cars parked/valeted around. Empire state building is something I'd save if you had a lot of free time, Rockefeller center is a must but you got that covered with the tree, go skating if can/want to. ESPN Zone in Times square is a really neat place, and the dining can be right in their giant class turret that over looks Times Square right near the ball drop area. I'll think of more as the day goes on, Ellis Island is a neat place as well. Oh, and if you go near Broad and Wall street, you'll be able to see our old building - called The Exchange - tall white/marble building within a baseball toss of the Stock Exchange. |

Depending how you decide to get to NYC you have many different options while your there. You arrive in two seperate areas of Manhattan depending if you go by bus or train. Going from one end to the other either requires a cab or subway. If you want to go to Serendipity and sit down make a reservation. Parking for the day in Manhattan if you go by car can run up to $40 if you find a garage that has spots available. |
Definitely check out Central Park. It's sooooo nice in the winter, just be sure to DRESS WARM! lol! I was there my junior year of HS right before Christmas and I had a blast walking through, people watching and whatnot. If you have time, I'd say go ice skating at Rockerfeller center. That's fun!
Also if you have time... check this out http://www.rockefellercenter.com/ind.../2#/2/1/-1/12/ |

Heck, you can even see a play. Tickets are usually decently priced the day of as they would rather sell for something then leave and empty seat. Took the g/f a few years back and we saw The Grinch and it was cool. Not a theater person, but Broadway is a whole new ball game. |
Nick, you're awesome. I'm writing that stuff down now =] I've been to Ellis island but it's been a while.
Angelo (i think that's how you spell your name - if not sorry!) thanks for the suggestion on the reservation! I saw the place in a movie ("Serendipity" made back in the late 90s, early 2000s). Ever since I found out the meaning of the word I've been obsessed with it. I even have a tattoo with the word incorporated on my shoulderblade. If I find out they don't have anything with soy milk I just want to see it/get a picture there lol. If they do serve non-dairy I'll def work on that reservation. |

We're taking the train from Trenton I believe... |
I try to maintain my awesome status all around. I took an ex up there when we were still dating and it was one of the more memorable times of my life, yes Oakes is getting soft stfu, and you two should really enjoy yourselves. I will say this, don't stress yourself in seeing everything, if something is too far and time isn't there, dont strain it unless you've already paid for it. There are about a million and one things to see between where you are and your destination, people watching is one of them, and you will never see so many Bentleys/Rolls/Maybachs in your life. We used to get carted around in an S600 or a 760Li, as they were on hand at our building as well as the parking garage, which my brothers S55 looked cheap among the other garage tenants.
It's truly a world of it's own up there, somewhere that everyone needs to visit, regardless of how much they may hate the Yankees. |
have fun in NYC!
i havn't been there in ages |
so my car might end up in Kuwait... word

Ok I just saw the other off topic posts, and did Cleanneon really have to make a thread about his working out thing. **** we all might as well make one for the people who work out.

Now I wanna go to NYC. LOL. Last time I was there, it was a really random trip!
My friend Nicole and I were bar hopping on south street in Philly last summer and saw a sign for SOHO and were like... "Hey that's in NYC, we should go"... both looked at each other, and WENT! LOL. It was awesome. Kept bar hopping in NYC, had the BEST pizza EVER at 4am, then played Rock Band till 7am and went back home! that was so fun. |
