Has anyone seen this before?????

This happened today while driving 55-60MPH. It made a sharp left (i thought i would have made a right) towards the guardrail. The coilovers have less then 10k on them and i got them back in oct 08 so they aren't that old.

MX5 01-23-2010 10:34 PM

Yes it is not cheap.

TalonTsi97 01-23-2010 11:28 PM

Wow, that sucks! Your cars very nice, i'm glad the damage was extremely worse.

Fixed! lol

Yeah that could have been a major catastrophe glad it didn't turn into another "hey tst I wrecked my car today!" thread. Did you get the coilovers directly from K Sport or a website?

well that is just perfect lol

Rally Sport 01-24-2010 08:18 PM

That's insane! glad your ok! luckily it didn't mash your fender atleast.

teh DIRT 01-24-2010 08:25 PM

seen it a bunch of times with subarus. I cannot recall which brand it was but the rear coilover would break at the flange during high g turns (usually on the track).

superskaterxes 01-24-2010 08:56 PM

lol must have got some Vdub dust on your car or something haha

Grounded 01-24-2010 09:11 PM

WOW. Your lucky you still have the car. Im sure that could have been much worse.

Zillon 01-24-2010 09:39 PM

I've seen Ksports do this before, but not at random like your coilover seems to have done.

It took a high-force impact to do this on a tC in the same manner, one that was strong enough to crack a wheel.

When I get the money, I'll be switching to a proper suspension setup consisting of Koni Yellows and Eibach springs. I've had enough of the issues that surround cheap coilover setups.

11secdsm 01-24-2010 09:48 PM

Did the threaded piece break in the base or was it just not threaded far enough in and strip out? It's hard to tell from the pics.

If you want some help, give me a call tomorrow. We're an authorized K-Sport distributor and can potentially help you out.

It looks like it stripped out, not snapped.

probevette 01-24-2010 10:24 PM

Yes I have seen ksports snap like that

supercharged 01-25-2010 08:26 PM

OK i called today and they are sending me a replacement strut for the 1 that broke and a brand new revised set. This way i can sell 1 set and keep the cash and he is gonna get back to me on whether or not he can also cut me a check to help cover the damage. Now i just want to say they are really nice to deal with. I know i could have got more out of them but i just wanted my car fixed and fixed quickly.

How so? I see all the threads on the shaft itself. However I see no threads in that lower piece, and it doesn't look beat up inside either, leading me to believe the strut snapped.

On a side note, I might be looking to get my konis rebuilt rather than buying kssports like I had planned.

Glad to see the OP got himself and the car out of the situation with minor damage.

siiiiicccckkk camber brah... that stance is ballin... but uh yeah that is why women should not ever get men any car parts as a present... how did she get out of the kitchen anyway? I guess I can't blame you for using a present your girl gave you, I would've done the same, cheap coils would be expected to ride like ****, but not snap like that.

Tyler 02-05-2010 09:19 AM

thats kinda like when i snapped 3 studs.. must have been pretty scary at 60

Just curious, is the OP a friend of yours, thus making your post an inside joke?
Or was that just for the sake of kicking the dude when he's down?
Everyone has made a poor choice of components at one time or another & sometimes stuff just breaks on modded cars...
I usually agree with your point of view when we wind up in the same thread, but you come off like a real dick throwing that comment out.
I read it and pictured Nelson Muntz from the Simpsons pointing at the beautifull yet damaged car saying "Haaa haaaaaaaaa!"
Ahh well, it's typical TST... take the good with the bad.
Just my $0.02 (Typical TST style)

make sure you stay on the company to send you those parts and to send you a check to get you a new CF lip. there is no way you should be footing the bill for any of this since you're product is under warranty.
