The official Final Fantasy VII thread. *BREAKING NEWS* Green light for a remake?!

I remember buying this awesome awesome game for $60 the day before it came out. A friend working at Funcoland hooked me up. Little did I know, that my life would be changed forever. It's the only game from 1997 that I still play almost every day. I must admit that it's lost its oomph once I knew the whole story, but the game is just so fantastic that it doesn't even matter. It is unfortunate, however, that they don't really make games as awesome as this anymore. Once gaming became mainstream, these games just kinda faded away.

Anyway, this thread is dedicated to the awesomeness that is Final Fantasy VII. Discuss one of the greatest games of all time. Fans and nerds are welcome. Haters will be charged extra gil for posting.

doug 09-21-2009 03:07 PM

i played that for an entire spring/summer back then, and yeah.. it was one of those games that stuck with me for a while. haven't played it in forever though.

Elliott18t 09-21-2009 03:08 PM

I love this game... beat it sooo many times including the emerald and ruby dragons.. mastered everything lol.

i wish they would remake so its not all polygon-y

by far best game of all time. or at least up there in top 3

doug 09-21-2009 03:13 PM

id love to see a remake.. i'd play it for sure.

Elliott18t 09-21-2009 03:15 PM

hmm my dorkiness is showing there..

bl@ckvr4 09-21-2009 03:47 PM

No kidding! A remake would be awesome. So far, there is no concrete evidence that there will be a remake. However, SquarEnix has already remade all the Final Fantasies prior to VII. So, logically, a remake should be coming. A remake would definitely be a financial success and would sell millions.

Elliott18t 09-21-2009 03:54 PM

yup. i have ff3 on my DS lol. only reason i got it...like FF series much? V_V?

ScoobyNubieToo! 09-21-2009 08:01 PM

Yup FFVII was awesome!

Scapegoat 09-21-2009 08:04 PM

final fantasy tactics was by far my favorite FF title

omgjacki 09-21-2009 08:14 PM

I cannot even begin to explain the number of times or the number of hours my brother has played this game. It's insane.

c0nfl1kt 09-21-2009 08:23 PM

Correct me if I'm wrong, but new games back in 1997 cost $49.95. They started costing $59.95 starting this generation...

Also, I've played this game more than anyone here. I still play it on my emu. I am a huge geek and am proud of it. My girlfriend is a bigger FF geek than me, though.

doug 09-21-2009 08:25 PM

Cloud Strife and Sephiroth were one of the best hero/villain combos ever..

Spocknasty 09-21-2009 08:26 PM

FF7 for the ****ing win.

c0nfl1kt 09-21-2009 08:33 PM

I suggest you guys play Crisis Core. It's a good addition to the series. My favorite FF is still IX.

Spocknasty 09-21-2009 08:37 PM

I'd eat my own child to get a remake of FF7.

I dunno man. I don't think you've played it more than me. I got the game a day before it came out.
The game was $50, but I payed $10 extra to get it one day in advance. The game came out on September 3rd, 1997. But I got my excited hands on it on September 2nd.

Oh and Crisis Core is amazing. Definitely a worthy addition to the VII family.

All I am saying is that retail price wasn't $60. I think I've gotten a game early like that before because it's obvious they get the games a week before launch to prep. I've also got a few people that work at Gamestop. The ONLY Gamestop I've seen get games on launch day is a Gamestop on 21st and Lehigh(the ghetto?). I guess they don't have too much space to store boxes, etc or just don't trust that store or something, but I waited around for Mass Effect to be dropped off by the UPS guy the morning of.

I got FF7 I think that Christmas because I had just gotten a PSone that Christmas. It was my second Christmas in the US but the first Christmas that my parents had any sort of disposable income. I remember, I was 11 and had never played an RPG before that. I thought I would beat the game if I got to level 20. At first I thought the whole game was based in Midgard. I was in for a surprise when I beat Reno and their crew and left Midgard.

Turbo_CitrusEs 09-21-2009 10:59 PM

FF7 FTMFW!!! I still have the original game not the greatest hits. Also have the strategy guide that goes along with it.

FYI if anyone hasnt seen it, Final Fantasy Advent Children on Blu Ray is full of win!! Here is a little preview.....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibuNacSzkMo

c0nfl1kt 09-21-2009 11:09 PM

I will be honest. I am a crybaby and I got emotional watching Advent Children. Specially at the end when Zack and Aerith are by the door. ='(

bl@ckvr4 09-21-2009 11:10 PM

That damn Reno. It took me forever to figure out you could bust the pyramids. He killed me like 5 times.

Zack's death in Crisis Core was ****ing sad! You're like fighting off the soldiers and then the Phase Modulation begins. I'm like "Oh yeah! Time to get these bastards!" And then the DMW starts falling apart. I was like "WTF?" It was ultra sad when he finally died.

Elliott18t 09-22-2009 09:24 AM

The opening to the game is great.

agreed, makes me want to buy a psp..

I had this game for 5 minutes and gave it away. If they made a remake i'd probably actually play it. Is Crisis Core like Final Fantasy VII? Cuz i've been thinking about purchasing a PSP and the game.

Crisis Core doesn't play like Final Fantasy VII. Meaning you run around with the character and swing your sword without waiting for a time bar to fill up. It plays like Kingdom Hearts.

Elliott18t 09-22-2009 09:37 AM

^ **** that. lol

turn based please.

mr_eh 09-22-2009 09:38 AM

heres a story that'll break your hearts.

brother played the game non stop, it was his ps1... so he went out one saturday i decided to play.

got up to the part where the glass roof breaks on sector 7 iirc and saved it, went and did whatever. next day i go to play... he overwrote my saved game... never played again =|

JerseyTuscani 09-22-2009 10:19 AM

that happened once to me on Silent Hill i damn near strangled my brother.

You're missing out. A lot. Start it over. In the whole scheme of things, you were only about 2% done the whole game. So you didn't lose much.

jspek 09-22-2009 02:49 PM

been playing crisis core, but ive been busy and put it on hold. god i just wanna play it haha.

7 would be nice to remake for the psp...

doug 09-22-2009 03:27 PM

Did you install the ps1 bios files?

90blacktsiawd 09-23-2009 09:09 AM

I had been bugging my friend who i sold my ps1 to years ago to go through the games and let me borrow that then they released it on the PSN. I never beat it the first time through. I got stuck at Sephiroth. This time i cracked out and played for over 80 hours when i finally decided to go ahead and finish the game. It certainly wasn't as hard with my guys so leveled up this time.

Elliott18t 09-23-2009 09:14 AM

i maxed out the timer everytime i played because i was doing side quests etc lol.

Scapegoat 09-23-2009 09:17 AM

i need to rummage through my ps2 stuff and find a ps1 save card and FFT... i never got a chance to play it on a large screen lol.

i would be tempted to download the ps1 emu and the game rom so i can use the gameshark cheats... like getting cloud

90blacktsiawd 09-23-2009 09:28 AM

I'm actually on to FFXII right now. I played it once, got to the point where i could go to the final boss if i wanted to, then i started running around doing other things and never finished it. I like the addition of gambits in this one. The automated actions your team does when certain, set conditions happen.

Come to think of it, i did that with FFX as well then went back and replayed it to finish it. It seems to be pattern here.

Scapegoat 09-23-2009 10:31 AM

anyone happen to have the iso for FFT? i can't find my damn cd. i've torn my apartment upside down looking for it. i've got an emu on my computer that will play either the iso or the cd rom

edit: fuuuuuck me... its right here on my desk and has been for the last year and a half

Elliott18t 09-23-2009 10:33 AM

i got the ps emu working w/ my disk... and it sucks. time to hook up the ps2 and cross my fingers that i can find a ps1 memory card

FML... can't find the power cord for my ps2... or a ps1 memory card

bl@ckvr4 02-16-2010 05:11 PM

Update: Even though it has officially been denied several times, several key figures at SquareEnix are interested in a remake. There's hope yet!
