Car insurance - SICK SICK SICk!

Just made some phone calls to shop around for car insurance.

I went from paying $1,309 every 6 months to receiving better coverage and paying $1,407 a YEAR! :supz:

Fit-FTW 08-04-2009 03:44 PM

which one was that?

TROLL 08-04-2009 03:45 PM

Sounds like you're excited, but without at least providing some reasonable potential for discussion this is not worth starting a thread about.

his original post should be saying something like "check your rates frequently!" b/c in fact this is true.

I called an Agent I use to use a long time ago when I just started look for insurance.

Jim Craig - Murray Insurance - 610-935-1488

My policy was with State Farm and is now with Ohio Casualty (Liberty Mutual)

Got Insulin? 08-04-2009 03:54 PM

We use Ohio Casualty at work (an unfortunate pun) for the fleet, 5 '09 cars, a Suburban, and two specialty cars, and our rate is awesome.

What TROLL is trying to say is that there are a whole bunch of details missing from your origional post that could create proper discussion, like: Origional company, compand switched to, age, etc. Stuff like that, you know? 'Grats on the lower rate, though.

Buster 08-04-2009 03:55 PM

I just changed last year from Progressive to Ohio casualty. I was paying like 5800 a year for the WRX and the Legacy, with OC I was paying 3100 a year for both cars and renters insurance, then when we got the Yaris the rates dropped almost 200 a month. I was told too by my agent that my policy will be even cheaper when i renew in october.

gotcha, sorry troll.

I was with State Farm 25/50/25 w/ under-insured un-insured, non-stacked, limited tort funeral bene 2,500, medical expenses 5,000and. 500 ded for both collision and comp on my Evo X and just liability on my 88 Accord. two things on my record $13K+ claim for a bmw i messed up and had pretty much complete suspension replaced and i hit a dear w/ a car back in 2005. $1,309 every 6 months, $217 a month.

My new policy will be with Ohio Casualty is 25/50/50 w/ same under/un-insured and 500 deductibles. same everything else the only thing i increased was property damage from 25k to 50k. and my policy is $1,407 a year.

jpalamar 08-04-2009 04:28 PM

I went from Esurance paying $220 a month just for my car to State Farm paying $200 a month for the GTO and GSXR.

Esurance was a little high, but there customer service and claims dept is second to none. I would recommend them to anyone.

SuperCoyle 08-04-2009 06:38 PM

(Liberty also owns Safeco) Ohio is awesome if you have good credit and no tickets like 7/10 people that I quote with them pay about half... but you cant have more then two violations pop up from the last three years or the system rejects the app.

TROLL 08-04-2009 06:42 PM

I'm pretty happy with my insurance which is pretty cheap through Progressive, but I feel like I should look into this Ohio place now... thanks for sharing the secret.

CANNIBALOFDOOM 08-04-2009 08:37 PM

i was paying 288 a month with geico i now pay 175 with progressive. Car insurance is on my top list of bull**** that is a rip off and yet makes billions off ****ing people in the ass.

Coyle has the faster GTO!!!

omgjacki 08-04-2009 08:41 PM

I guess I got lucky with Geico. They offered me the cheapest rates. I was with Progressive paying $340 a month for liability. **** that. After the first month I was quoted $152/month with Geico and now I pay $129 with liability. I'm a 19 year old girl in the city.

evomike 08-04-2009 08:48 PM

The whole thing about insurance is people see the low price and get excited. This can screw you when yu get in an accident, I haven't delt with this Ohio insurance but some companies will use alot of used parts and aftermarket when fixing your auto. This is the reason they can be cheaper and they get you with rental cars. I guess what I'm saying is be careful when getting discount insurance

Buster 08-04-2009 08:55 PM

I went with them because they were great for renters, the cheaper car insurance just came with it. I looked over our policy today and I dont think we have much to worry about at all.

omgjacki 08-04-2009 08:57 PM

Ha, if I ever got into an accident the insurance company would just total the car anyway. No use trying to fix something that's 20 years old and worth $870.

Willdue 08-04-2009 08:57 PM

I pay 81$ a month with Progressive

evomike 08-04-2009 08:58 PM

Well that's good like I sai I never personally delt with them so I don't k ow how they are repair wise

R22B 08-04-2009 10:18 PM

Since we got the house and married, we pay around $300/m for maxed out coverage on the 05 WRX and 98 Ford Explorer (100/300/100 coverage, full tort) and $150k on the house.

It used to be $300 alone just for my car prior to getting married and getting a house. Multiple discounts FTW.

russiankid 08-05-2009 12:13 AM

Erie is pretty cheap.

DPancoast 08-05-2009 02:37 AM

Always always ALWAYS check up on your rates every 6 months to a year to see what you can change to still have good coverage but pay less.

mann 08-05-2009 06:36 AM

No one does NJM? I've been with them for close to a decade now, and they've been insuring in PA for at least the last 5. Besides for being cheap they give you back a check at the end of the year (dividend on profits). The one claim I had with them was handled 100% with 0 hassle.

I'll second that. Hands down the best i've dealt with. My rate is pretty good. I went from paying 2600 a year with nationwide to paying 1400 a year with esurance.

coleycole 08-05-2009 11:09 AM

look into Allstate if your looking to switch up insurance. Their rates are great as of late and the programs they have to offer with vehicle replacement etc are really neat. I pay $200/mo on my 350z roadster with 250/500 liability coverage full tort, 1000 collision deducitble 500 comp deductible and all the matching coveraged for uninsured and underinsured

Vypurr 08-05-2009 11:13 AM

I love progressive! $145/month for full coverage on my STI, and I am only 22. I was paying nearly double that with USAA (who traditionally has the best rates out there)

///M 08-05-2009 12:43 PM

If anybody has a costco membership, Amerprise does car insurance real cheap. I have full coverage on my M roadster plus 4000.00 extra for the body kit. Only drawback is they don't insure cars with aftermarket suspensions or FI cars. I told them my car was stock(its not even close to stock). $227.00 every 6 months

Oakes 08-05-2009 12:51 PM

I'm paying 1,200 a year for my Fusion....that's down from 6200 a year for my Nismo Z

Allstate quoted me $700 a month for my Evo X. They obviously didn't want to insure me.

I went with Geico and got $255 a month, which is $150 under what I was expecting to pay for this car being 20 years old and under my own policy.

jpalamar 08-05-2009 02:18 PM

My brike is $250 a year. Wahoo!

Kiel 08-05-2009 02:55 PM

I have State Farm Mutual, 03 WRX and 04 Forester on it, plus renter's - 50/100/100 limits, full tort, $250 collision and $100 comp deductibles, for $225 a month.

Though, it helps they decided to rate my WRX as a pleasure vehicle since I take the trolley to work now :D

Got Insulin? 08-05-2009 04:35 PM

21, still on my parent's policy with Erie. For both the Talons, I pay $2200 per year.
