List of Tristate Pick-n-Pulls
I think it's safe to say that duct tape and mismatched bits from other cars are each of our car's best friends and there's no place better to get those mismatched parts than everyone's best friend: the venerable pick-n-pulls/U-pulls/whatever you call it.
So, let's get some addresses or websites of these kingdoms of automobile heaven up. EDITS for more pick and pulls, will be updated. Sorted alphabetically: Albion U-Pull-It: 114 Cross Keys Rd, Berlin, NJ 08009 (856-335-1117) Al's Auto: 4339 Old Lincoln Highway, Trevose, PA 19053 (215-355-3888) Cresent U-Pull-It: 999 Old Bristol Pike, Morrisville, PA 19036 (215-295-6761 OR toll free at 877-930-4289) EZ-Pull & Save (content): 2409 Summer Valley Road, New Ringgold, PA 17960 (570-386-2171) GI Auto Salvage Co Inc (content): 85 Bloomfield Avenue, Pine Brook, NJ 07058 (973-227-1100) Gianna's U-Pull-It: 6800 Essington Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19153 (215-937-9412) Harry's Allentown: 1510 East Jonathan Street, Allentown, PA (610-433-9901) Harry's Hazleton (content): 1010 Winters Avenue, West Hazleton, PA 18202 (570-459-9901) Harry's Pennsburg: 2557 Geryville Pike, Pennsburg, PA 18073 (215-541-9950) Orthodox U-Pull-It: 5247 Unruh Avenue Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19135 (215-332-3500) Pic-A-Part: 820 Bristol Pike, Morrisville, PA 19067-2334 (215-295-7610, Right next to Cresent U-Pull-It too) Shorty's: 588 Swedeland Rd, King Of Prussia, PA 19406 (610-275-4141) South End Auto: 791 W Bridge St, Morrisville, PA 19067 (215-295-4144) |
Yellowpages?
or yellowpages.com? (EDIT) Points for vocab, though. "Venerable" is a goodie. |
Yellowpages has gigantic listings of every auto wrecker and salvager. Who wants to deal with bitter 30-40 something year olds that have failed life and now feel intent on taking their misery out on you overcharging you for parts? Nah, I'm looking specifically for pick and pulls. Import or domestic, cheap or cheaper, but pick and pulls are where it's at.
|
this could be good if the OP updates the original thread as people add more places. It will also be nice if they also said what is mainly found at the yard.
|
Although I am of little faith on this one, Orthodox U-pull-it on Unruh street (not sure of the address, but it's the last lot before the river) has never done me wrong. Last time I was there, about a month ago, there was an MR2 turbo, an FD, almost every year DSM, and a few s13s, along with numerous other oddities, such as a Mighty Max. They have a huge stock that is not pick-n-pull, but they do rotate their stock, so it works out awesome.
Also, Gianna's (sp?) on Essington ave has saved my ass on quite a few occasions. |
GI Auto Salvage Co Inc: 85 Bloomfield Avenue, Pine Brook, NJ 07058 (973-227-1100)
I took my first trip down to this place. A friend of mine's father suggested it to me. He gets most of his spare Civic parts from there. The junkyard was broken down into 2 sections: 1 pick and pull (a lot of complete neglect) and 1 fenced-off area that you are only allowed into with permission from the owner or accompanied by an employee. As far as cars go, it can be broken down into 4 categories. 1) Pickup trucks. Lots of them. Especially Ford F series. And of the F series, especially F-150s dating back to the very early 80s if not before that. I'm not a pickup specialist. 2) Japanese and Korean compacts and subcompacts. Accords, Civics, Elantras, whatever. They have a few. I saw a very clean and relatively unmolested fifth generation fifth gen Civic. There was a Subaru Outback, too. And while not a subcompact, I even saw an Eclipse. 3) Various not-german European cars. Sure there were a few Mercs and E28-E30 BMWs, but there were a whole hell of a lot more styled-by-LEGO Volvos and a fairly solid assortment of early Saabs. 4) Escorts, Focuses, Escorts, and Escorts. Seriously, I saw at least 20 of them sitting side by side. And now for the bitchin' cars that don't fit into any of these categories, or maybe they do but are just bitchin'. 240SX http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b9...e/IMG_0185.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b9...e/IMG_0187.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b9...e/IMG_0186.jpg The entire car is pretty untouched. A few pieces missing here or there, and one crack in the center rear light thing that says 240SX, but otherwise really complete. Nissan Pulsar http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b9...e/IMG_0184.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b9...e/IMG_0183.jpg This is an N13 Pulsar, but not just any Pulsar. This is the high performance SE model that would've come with the CA16DE or CA18DE- peaky 1.6 or 1.8 liter engines depending on model years. Unfortunately, somebody took the amazing little engine and less amazing transmission out of the poor little Pulsar. Subaru Alcyone SVX and Porsche 928 http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b9...e/IMG_0182.jpg Yes, the Subie has the 6 cylinder EG33 still in it. Practically untouched, too. It should be a direct swap to any first generation Legacy or Impreza, for anyone so inclined. I didn't look at the Porsche. 1969 Olds Toronado http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b9...e/IMG_0180.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b9...e/IMG_0181.jpg This is one of the first FWD American cars ever, for those not in the know. In typical American muscle fashion, however, Oldsmobile Toronados were equipped with the fearsome 455ci (7.5 liter) Oldsmoble Rocket V8 putting out 375 ponies and 425 twisties. Can anyone say torque steer? This Olds happened to still have the engine and transmission, but not much else. This car was pretty thoroughly picked apart. The rear trunk has some pretty bad rust and there's a lot of broken glass. The interior was absolutely demolished. It was also, very unfortunately, the vinyl top instead of the hard top Toronado. Vinyls became optional in '69. At least it's big enough to 69 in the '69. Mark IV Lincoln Continental http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b9...e/IMG_0177.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b9...e/IMG_0178.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b9...e/IMG_0179.jpg This car is, without a doubt, the coolest car at the junkyard. Sitting proudly in the center, this magnificent, inert lump of imposing Detroit iron vigilantly overlooks the pick and pull area of the yard, waiting for an owner to take her home and get her running again. As you can see, this Continental is really clean. Somebody just took off the air cleaner to poke around in the carb but left it alone for one of the other 4 barrels on the lot, presumably the pickups near it. Inside it's the same story- virtually untouched. The other missing piece I see are the headlight covers. Shame, because it would look badass with them. Also, this Continental is a 70-72 judging by the front bumper. In 1973, the Federal Government introduced new crash regulations calling for energy absorbing bumpers. This means it also has the full emissions unrestricted use of its mammoth 460 cubic inch Ford 385 big block mated to that super smooth 3 speed automatic. I would've taken her home if I didn't already have the 55 Bel Air. |
I used to go to U-Pull-It every weekend when I was younger. The prices are out of this world. I am not sure if there is a cheaper place to get good parts. They have 3 seconds American, Import, and Trucks/Vans. The normally have older cars like 80's to late 90's cars. However once in awhile they get 2000+ cars and if they do they are picked over quickly. Its also free to get in which is nice.
Cresent U-Pull-It 999 OLD BRISTOL PIKE MORRISVILLE PA 19036 215-295-6761 Pic-A-Part is located right next to Cresent U-Pull-It. You pretty much get back on the major road and get off at the next exit. They have a great selection of newer cars however prices were always more. However they are under new management now and the prices could have gone down. I stopped going there when they started charging to get in. Its only a $1.00 to get in but I can't see myself going there unless I really need too. Pic-A-Part 820 Bristol Pike Morrisville, PA 19067-2334 (215) 295-7610 |

(610) 275-4141 588 Swedeland Rd King Of Prussia, PA 19406 Hit or miss for me but a nice yard, and very cool prices. Worth checking out, cars go in and out all day long |
About a month ago, I checked out EZ Pull and Save. My apologies, but I didn't have a camera on me. The entire lot is on the world's most uncomfortably placed hill. Want to get an engine? Drag it up a mile long incline to the check-out booth. Who the **** said "Now that's uncomfortable- let's make it here?"
American: Now, I haven't seen so many Crown Vics and related cars on the same platform except in car chases in a high-budget Hollywood flick. There are seperate Ford, GM, and Mopar sections each infinitely long literally as far as the eye can see. European imports: My friend's dad was looking for a clutch from a B5 Passat but everything they had was older than that. Not a whole lot of newer-than-2000 cars sitting there which is surprising considering how often the things break down and how expensive those things are to replace, even if done yourself. Asian imports: I'll be honest, the yard was so huge that I didn't get a chance to check it out. A friend of mine did, though, and saw a few second gen CRXes in mostly complete condition except for the glass that looked like it was repeatedly hit with a baseball bat (the mean streets of New Ringgold, desolate farming community?). Older: In the back is the "classic" car section. Now, that's kind of a misnomer because the entire lot is packed to the brink with Corvairs- not the most classic of classics- and malaise era or near-malaise era cars. There was the occasional 50s car, an Opel city car, and a first gen CRX. Basically, nothing that this forum is really into. Still, Corvairs are really damn awesome. There was even a Corvair topkick which is a mid engined, rear wheel drive pickup truck! Yes please! |
i feel this should be a sticky, lots and lots of very great information in here
|
Harry's and EZ Pull and Save are quite good. Plenty of pretty much everything at Harry's (except Miatas for some reason). EZ pull has lots and lots of Jeeps and other Chrysler trucks.
|
Anyone know of a yard that has year 2000 and up imports?

i usually hit up harrys in hazelton Pa once a month for something for one of my 3 cars.... or one of the others my family owns.
humongeous place... wish i had more popular cars though. |
Thread necromancy time. I've been to several of these junkyards since, but today I went to Harry's in Hazleton and had a camera on me.
Harry's in Hazleton has a god damn cornucopia of mid 90s and earlier cars of all makes and models, mostly American. I stayed mostly in the import section to pillage A4's, A6's, B5 Passats and other germans of similar vintage of their delicious electrical connectors for my '55 so all pictures were taken from there. http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b9...n/IMG_1913.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b9...n/IMG_1914.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b9...n/IMG_1915.jpg You can see row after row after row of trucks and older 90s and earlier Toyotas/Hondas/Nissans. If you need a 1.6 liter D series, Harry's is the place for you! And now for the interesting cars I saw. While I saw a Pulsar or two, I'd already snapped some pictures from earlier visit to that Jersey yard so I've only got one car for you today, but it's a damn beauty. http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b9...n/IMG_1908.jpg Volkswagen Type 3 Squareback! My german is a bit rusty, but this looks like a 1600 series. http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b9...n/IMG_1910.jpg I immediately recognized the tail lamps. My neighbor down the road in Jersey has a Karmann Ghia, built on the exact same platform using mostly the same components. He also has 4 Porsche 356's, including a frighteningly rare 356 Speedster, so after his stories and advice, I'm a bit sad I couldn't tell if this was a 1500 or 1600. Still, a damn beauty. http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b9...n/IMG_1909.jpg Volkswagen Automatic! Whoever bought this car decided that 3 speeds is enough for an engine that had the power output of a damp sock. However, since automatics were only introduced in 1968 to the Type 3, this narrows down the age of the car from 68-73. http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b9...n/IMG_1912.jpg And here's the flat 4, the second most popular engine in the world after the Chevrolet small block V8. http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b9...n/IMG_1911.jpg Finally, a shot of the people's interior. That pedal design is awesome looking, but stupid. Seems like it would suck pretty bad in poor weather, or mud, or anything that involves liquids of any kind. |
Too funny seeing this car again...
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b9...e/IMG_0178.jpg I actually have the license plate from it hanging in my basement (I guess you took the pic before I got there!). I could only get one off the day I was there - by the time I made it back, the car was gone. BTW, GI's is all but gone as well. They haven't let you walk out into the yard for over a year now, and the plan is for the site to become a Lowe's. That was to have already begun by now, so I wonder if the deal soured with the economy. It used to be a great yard, with all the (now) open space filled with cars. They were never cheap like the PA U-Pull-Its, but convenient if you lived in NNJ. |
I doubt i could find one in any of the yards but if i could find a charger with headlights in good condition, id pick em up. Hell if anyone sees one, let me know
|
GI's in pinebrook nj is closed now just so everyone knows.
everyone loves u-pull it yards i do to but there just disappearing because of insurance regulations and such. my uncles a junkyard in north jersey. i locate parts for my friends all the time all over the country. Most junkyards use a computerized inventory system now and were all linked check out www.car-parts.com or my uncles yard www.westmilfordauto.com |

Funny enough, your uncle's junkyard is probably the closest one to me, but I never have reason to go over that way so I didn't know it even exists. |

Lowe’s In other business news, Bastone reported on communication with Boswell Engineering about the construction of a Lowe’s building at the old GI Auto site, at the end of Bloomfield Avenue and Route 46. The former junkyard operations have been transferred to Paterson. Demolition of existing structures is to begin in March. Remediation is in process. Reports will be submitted to the DEP, and copies will be provided to the township. Lowe’s has executed a long-term lease of the property. However, a second building which is part of this project, has not yet been leased. There will be a parking lot for both buildings. Construction of Lowe’s is expected to begin June after DOT approvals are in place. Still in question are the cul-de-sacs on Maple Avenue, for which Lowe’s is prepared to make a financial contribution to construct, and the residence on 8 Maple Ave. for which Nielson inquired about stacking, tax revenues, and police and zoning reports. Sandham suggested waiting for the DOT determination if a cul-de-sac or dead could be constructed on Maple Ave., then holding a public discussion for residentss concerns about excessive speeds, and home values. The Bloomfield Avenue bridge is functionally obsolete. Lowe’s has agreed to replace the bridge as part of Morris County capital improvements. |
Little thread bump for the already listed lots that I visited yesterday - i'll be visiting them all over the next 2 weeks and post any interesting finds if that's ok, if not just delete this post lol

http://montville.patch.com/articles/...off-rt-46-plan Updated: Lowe's Scraps Rt. 46 Plan Proponents of the home improvement store said it would have created jobs, brought in tax revenue and cleaned up a junkyard. By Jake Remaly Email the author August 18, 2011 A plan by Lowe's to build a 137,000-square-foot home improvement store plus a garden center on the site of a junkyard on westbound Route 46 in Montville has been scrapped, the company said. A planner for Lowe's e-mailed the town last month saying the company was backing off its plan to build, Mayor Jim Sandham said. Sandham said the e-mail from Lowe's didn't give a clear reason for the change of course. He said Montville officials would be seeing if anything can be done to save the project. A spokeswoman for Lowe's on Friday said the project is off. "Lowe’s has decided not to move forward with store development in this town," Stacey C. Lentz said Friday. Rene Avila, the owner of the property at Route 46 and Old Bloomfield Avenue, the site of G.I. Auto Salvage Co., said he still plans to clean up and bring tenants to the property. On Monday, Lowe's reported that its results for the quarter fell short of expectations and announced the closing of seven stores. Montville residents raised concerns about traffic stemming from the project and Lowe's was adjusting its plans in June. Proponents of the plan said it would have created jobs, brought in tax revenue and cleaned up a junkyard in town. |

Feel free to keep the updates coming. Other foreign stuff I'd be interested in (that you might remember since they're not common) include Subaru Brat, Toyota Supra, Alfa Romeo, late 80's Volvo 7-series w/ 16V head. And don't worry about Harry's Hazleton so much - dunno of you realize, but you can now search their inventory on-line. |

It was a 3 door. (pennsburg) It was green. The rear end and spoilers made it stick out like a sore thumb to grab my attention :D Honestly have never seen a 5 door in person. at ez pull - there were some older Supra's at that lot as well. I recall seeing at least 1 or 2 mark III's but these were just in passing since I didn't want any more project ideas  I actually know of a 3 door Merkur sitting in a development in Delaware... it's been there for at least 10 years in a driveway. |
