Sean's 2004 Mustang Mach 1 - ZOMG TORQUE ARM!

Bored so I figured why not make one of these

Brought it home May 2008, 58k miles. Previous owner had installed an intake, catback, and... *GASP* RED NEON LIGHTING. God only knows what he was thinking, but they're gone now.

First thing to go was the awful stock shifter and metal shift knob that burnt my hand every day in the summer. Went with a pro 5.0 shifter. The difference was night and day.

Fast forward to August 2008 and I finally started autocrossing. F drag racing  Wasn't long before "conekiller" became my nickname

For those who don't know, the mustangs camber curve is about as awesome as bashing your head against the sidewalk. The only affordable option I had to help that stayed within SCCA "stock" class rules was this massive 35mm Steeda front swaybar

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...afrontsway.jpg

Next up was replacing the awful excuse for a tire that goodyear had "designed". When Tirerack had their closeout sale on the Bridgestone RE-01R I jumped on it. 245/45/17, they look a lot bigger in my living room than on the car :(

Got sick of being blinded by headlights at night and got the rear and 1/4 windows (keepin it legal) tinted 5% by AutoFX in Cherry Hill. Also popped in some xenon headlight bulbs and removed my foglights because one of the bulbs died and I liked how it looked without them.

Most recently I got a killer deal on a Magnaflow X-pipe /w hi-flow cats. Installing it was an absolute nightmare. The manifold to midpipe bolts did not want to come off OR go back on. Spent 7+ hours working on it and I still need to take it to a shop with impact tools to get them torqued down properly. HUGE thanks to my friend Jared (JKZ) for helping out (read: doing most of the work) with this. Sounds absolutely wicked now! I'll get a video ASAP.

And just a few more pictures Ciotti has taken at our weekly meets

Ciotti 06-09-2009 09:42 AM

Got Insulin? 06-09-2009 09:54 AM

Car looks hawt.

06evors 06-09-2009 10:04 AM

A stang not built for drag? I love it already. That 4.6 can rev good for an 8. Make that thing handle.

05 mazda6s 06-09-2009 10:21 AM

Nice mach 1 man looks good

05scooby 06-09-2009 10:26 AM

Word! I swear my hands and arms got more banged up from working on your damn stang then when i work on the Z this is not suppose to happen!

Sounds like a real mustang now!:inlove:

Update! I'm lazy so there is no exhaust video and there probably never will be. There also aren't many pictures.

Anyway over the winter I finally got suspension goodies. H&R race springs, Bilstein struts/shocks, Maximum Motorsports camber/caster plates, and shorter poly swaybar endlinks. Scary thought but I did all the work my self. I haven't crashed and burned yet so it seems like a job well done

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4.../Photo0021.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4.../Photo0024.jpg

Yep, that's all I took pictures of.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...GN/HnRrace.jpg

They have since settled a bit more.

Also added 1.25" wheel spacers in the rear

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4.../Photo0033.jpg

Did some other silly visual junk. Took the wing off, reinstalled the fog lights, tint overlays on the foglights, and got some DDMtuning "30 dollar special" overnight from China HIDs. No pictures of any of that. I said I'm lazy!

video from the last autocross:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mEhBHtDcFg

I've decided to build the car for SCCA E Street Prepared. As much as I'd love to do awesome Mustang things like obscenely short rear gears and a supercharger so I can turn my pistons/rods into ballistic missiles, I can't :( Here's what I have planned:

2003 Cobra wheels (have them) + 275/40/17 Nitto NT05 all around
1/4" front wheel spacers so I stop hitting my giant swaybar
Maximum Motorsports full length subframe connectors
Maximum Motorsports panhard bar
Maximum Motorsports aluminum steering rack bushings
poly A-arm bushings (dread taking everything apart to install these, so they probably won't happen)
Corbeau Forza seat
rebuild the shot differential

Maybe I'll get some more recent pics... but don't count on it.

Oh I almost forgot the most important addition! My new rear window sticker!

bmatyeah 04-17-2010 07:27 PM

How bad was the lowering spring install, about to attempt it on my 97 just waiting on new rear lca's?

Asif22 04-18-2010 01:39 AM

Nice! I like the direction you are going with this car

Super easy. Previously all I had done was a swaybar and midpipe with the "help" of friends. By help I mean they did mostly everything. I was able to get the new springs in without having the disconnect the tie rods. Had to wrestle the spring a bit to get it into the A-arm perch but everything went pretty smooth overall. Had I used spring isolators it might have been a big pain in the arse.

bmatyeah 04-18-2010 05:05 PM

Yeah im looking to use isolators, metal on metal, not my thing for a dd. are you on stock control arms?

sean3 04-18-2010 05:08 PM

Yep stock control arms front and rear. Can't change them.

motorvated 04-20-2010 09:26 AM

Coming along awesome man, looked really good when I saw it at the Gully Barn! I'de look into another brand seat then Corbeau. I had them in my wrangler for a while, and after 5 months of daily driving, the fabric ripped in 3 places. They aren't made very well, or not well enough for a DD. If you're set on them , go for it. But I'de look into some other options.

sean3 05-02-2010 12:00 AM

Got my 1/4" front spacers on today. It's nice to be able to turn the wheel to full lock without the wheel weights smacking the swaybar again.

Hellanotflush!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...N/IMG_1811.jpg

Dave, I heard the newer Corbeau seats are of higher quality *shrug* And the microsuede ones I was looking at are supposedly even more durable.

motorvated 05-02-2010 02:11 AM

Hmm..I dunno. Worth a shot for the price..though the Sparco is about the same price and has better quality. Corbeau may be worth it though if they worked on their quality

troskinatior 05-02-2010 01:51 PM

My freind has the same exhaust as you, its so loud but sound so good.

sean3 06-07-2010 08:41 PM

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...N/9810baf8.jpg

How exciting! Installing them is supposedly EXTREMELY DANGEROUS! accoding to Prothane since you have to melt the stock bushings out. I can't wait.

JB'sLGT 06-07-2010 09:41 PM

I hear those bushings are guaranteed to make your car faster than any Cobra, S2000, or Evo.

I don't think the guarantee applies to Subarus though.

Fujito 06-07-2010 09:46 PM

There's no guarantee for Subaru's because that's just common knowledge.
That's like saying I guarantee you'll get wet if you jump in the ocean. Duh

JB'sLGT 06-07-2010 11:45 PM

thats a good point...it also saves space for other more important words on the box

thefro526 06-16-2010 03:08 PM

OMG!

Sean Haz a Build Thread??

sean3 06-16-2010 04:56 PM

Yeah you're about a year late

Maximum Motorspots XL full length subframe connectors should be here any minute now...

Function over form dude, we're into cars that are driveable, go fast, and corner properly not ugly donk-mobiles that have 80 degrees of negative camber just to fit wheels with the complete wrong offset hanging out of the fenders with tires that are 6 inches more narrow than the wheels :)

Lol, easy killer I was joking referencing a friend of ours that thinks low=fast. I dont have a VW and i run 255s on a 8" rim on my bmw, not into that either.

Oh I wasn't saying that you do, I should have been more specific though and mentioned that I don't think you have a donk setup (which I could tell by your name) but I was so excited to go on a retarded car rant that I forgot :)

Oh and for the record, true ballers run 275's on 8 inch wheels  "step your game up" is what I'm supposed to say I think?

kdc 06-24-2010 12:07 PM

lookin goood.

sean3 06-24-2010 05:30 PM

275s on an 8" wheel is just as dumb as stretching tires unless you're running stock class at nationals.

I'd like to run poly spring isolators to raise the front so the arm geometry isn't so ****ing terrible but the car spends 99% of it's time on the street so form>function :-p

Here's the latest addition to my living room floor:

Those were when I wasn't in the car screaming OUT OUT OUT OUT OUT!!!! :)

sean3 06-29-2010 12:19 PM

I CAN'T HANDLE THE PRESSURE!!!

Second last was my fastest of the day, and it shows with the lack of madman steering wheel shuffling. Still lots to improve on.
