R22B's 2005 WRX - Back to 4x4 Status.

Story
I picked up this 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX on December 6th, 2008. Oddly, on the way home, it snowed and the roads were quite bad. People were off the side of the road and 2WD vehicles were spinning tires. However, my fiancé was driving the WRX and I was behind her in my 2.5 RS and we just cruised. In all honesty, it was a bittersweet moment knowing that I got a new Subaru, but was going to have to sell my first Subaru. My eyes were watery the entire ride home with the radio off so I could just listen to her pur.

We were in the market for a new car… something with lower mileage. We have been unofficially looking since June of 2008. I craved more power, and with children planned in our future, the coupe just wouldn’t cut it for us. We came across a 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX at Fred Beans Nissan (it was a trade-in) and while I wasn’t all that fond of the automatic it had, the fiancé and I talked. We made a deal, we get this car and later down the road, it will become her car and I will get a new STi. I’d be stupid if I didn’t agree with that!

We went down the look at it. The thing I loved most about it was that it was clean. A 17 year old kid owned it previously, but with the work that was done (good name-brand parts and not eBayDM), I felt comfortable knowing that he spent the money to get the right stuff and didn’t just want to beat the crap out of it. I talked to our sales guy who said the kid was crying when he traded it in and that the kid called him up once a week knowing if it had sold or not. I gave our sales guy permission to let the kid know that another Subaru enthusiast got it… I know that would be comforting to him.

For the work that was done (which I would have done anyways), as well as the condition of the car, I felt like we did well.
Right now, I don’t have any engine related performance mods because it is an automatic and it will become my fiancés car down the road. However, I do have a few plans :).

Yeah, so the lady can drive it, too. Plus, its going to be hers down the road anyways :). A sacrifice I'm willing to make (plus, its nice being able to eat and drive at the same time now.. lol)

My knowledge of the GD bodies are quite limited... so I'm learning :)

Sometime down the road... after she sells her vehicle and after she graduates in June... and after we get a house. So probably late next year/early 2010.

fballman1987 12-08-2008 01:09 PM

I love the 08+ STi's... they are freakin' sexy. I hated them at first, but I grew to love them. Really, I'd prefer something new, but if not, I'm shooting for an 08-09.

Well guys, I went to Area 1320 tonight to have Ryan check it out. Wow...

Well, we found out I have STi injectors (pinkies :D!), vf39, STi blowoff valve... then we lifted up the car. Had a dummy cat and a I believe am aftermarket uppipe and downpipe.

Sweet.

No idea at all . Honestly, I couldn't even tell you. Numbers is not my game.

A tune is the next thing on my list once Ryan gets back to me. Maybe someone more educated can guess on what I could get out of it safely on 93 octane.

i've seen alot of people put anywhere from 265whp-300whp with a setup like that, thats just ballpark and im sure there are other people on here that could give you a more definite answer, but with everything you have, a tune could do amazing things

Well, I'm getting tuned @ TurboTek, hopefully within the next few weeks. I'm not out to make a ton of power, I just want to be able to floor it without the over boosting :(

R22B 08-19-2009 07:11 PM

I've been looking at wheels for a while. I finally found something I like at a reasonable price: Enkei EKM3. Only thing is I'd get the powder coated gold.

looks good man

R22B 02-14-2010 11:02 AM

I haven't updated this thing in FOREVER. After the last snow storm, I decided to go back up to 4x4 status... and I desperately needed new brakes so I threw in some EBC Red Stuff pads.

I really won't be doing too much more to the car because Jenna gets it in a few months. Thats when I'll secure my hands another Subaru =)!

telopyros 02-14-2010 12:30 PM

Car is still very nice for being an auto, "project car mag" just did a article on automatic bugeye.
