djb5118's 1992 SC300. Exhaust installed, with sound clip

Well guys, i finally have something worth starting a Journal about.

Just picked up this 1992 Lexus SC300. Its a 5spd which is actually pretty rare for these cars which makes it for me.

Hopefully Ill have some new shoes by the end of the summer since its gonna need tires aswell.

Eventually I want to respray it gunmetal maybe, lower, and way down the line, do a turbo.

Since it has 99k on the odo, its still very fresh has far as these cars go, plus at 93k it had over $5,000 in maintenance done including clutch, struts, seals, etc. So its basically a brand new car.

Here she is:

took the car out for a little shoot.

I still love those cars a lot. I love that body style! I like the long hood.

GOULET 08-13-2008 04:18 PM

wow wow wow wow wow i ****in hate you so bad. that thing is mintttttttyyyyyy. how much did u get it for? seriously, 99k miles. that thing has just been broken in. any plans for it? for the love of god keep it the same color.

lownslow95 08-13-2008 04:25 PM

Do it up...2JZ FTW!

Whitesupra94 08-13-2008 04:32 PM

2jz...? No ****

Seriously though, the car looks good and its very clean. These cars benefit very much from a nice drop and a nice deep dish wheel. And when you're ready for more power, the sky is the limit!!!!!....well the tranmission is, actually, buts thats not before a few hundred more rwhp :-p

Proven 08-13-2008 06:35 PM

Def. love the SC's.

VERY nice find.. and 5-speed!!! I think it was like 10% were made manual.

1JZ!

I know elitejdm.com has acouple soarer clips for you.

sean3 08-13-2008 09:08 PM

Wow that's a sweet looking car, especially for 99k. Somewhat reminds me of an RX8 from the front but sleeker. Please don't paint it.

240_fun 08-13-2008 09:25 PM

AHHHH I hate you
I want onee soooooooooooo badddddd

boostedfury 08-13-2008 09:32 PM

nice pickup man and I have to agree with the above comments.. that color is to mint to paint it gunmetal

240_fun 08-13-2008 09:38 PM

Def keep it that color dude
Its hottt
If anythign get it resprayed the sane but with more sparkle

Get coilovers and rims ASAP
Drop that ishh dude

Zillon 08-13-2008 10:22 PM

Slam it and get some fresh kicks on it.

Awesome pick up though, we just got one in on trade at Thompson, it's white, but has 205k on it. :(

KingOfDelco 08-13-2008 10:35 PM

true dat, 5 speed SC300s are rare (this side of the pond). nice pickup. I didn't like these cars back in the 90s, but they've grown on me a lot. I've been thinking about grabbing on and doing a swap...

Go for a 1jz full Soarer conversion. get "toyota" and "soarer" badges... 90% of ppl on the road would have no clue what it was!

i personally would do the swap first (don't just boost the stock motor, its the 2jzge, IS300 motor, right? eventhough there are turbo kits available for that motor, you'd be better off going with a JDM 1jz.) you would have a wicked sleeper! :D

then coilovers and rims/tires. possibly a nice JDM OE lip kit or a very subtle VIP body kit.

Lexus Drift Machine anyone?? Its basically a Supra anyway. built on the same platform I believe.

heck, you could probably drop a SR20 or 3sgte in there and mount it right up against the firewall for great weight distro/balance.

djb5118 08-14-2008 08:47 AM

thanks guys for all the comments...its amazing what a few sweet pictures can do to a threads responses :)

twastheglow...Yea, the long hood is sweet until you have to wax it...ughhhhhh

I think there were only 1600 5spd in the US if my research is correct, and who knows how many people wrecked them doing stupid ****.

As far as the paint goes. Its not as nice as it looks in the photos. There are a lot of scratches and stuff (i like to call them "old lady racing stripes") so it will need painted eventually. Im still looking into colors, and may end up going stock in the end (i like the sleeper look).

At this point though, Im going to drive it stock for a bit...no use changing the suspension yet, its still brand new! Then ill prob do coilovers/lowering springs to start.

Racersky 08-14-2008 07:38 PM

how much you pick this up for?

empera 08-14-2008 08:32 PM

esunbaboon 08-14-2008 08:50 PM

Very nice, that is my favorite color for those. Would look great with bronze rims.

Vince@R/TTuning 08-21-2008 11:16 AM

awesome, clean car

YARDMAN 09-09-2008 11:17 AM

nice man i like the color

djb5118 10-13-2008 09:32 AM

So my friend and I spent 8+ hours detailing the car. Wash, claybar, buff, polish, wax. I think it looks 100x's better. Heres before and after shots...

Before:

After:

I hope to get some good photos sometime this week (those were cameraphone shots). I also have the oem front lip coming tomorrow, so stay tuned for pictures of that in the coming weeks!

djb5118 02-26-2009 04:38 PM

So here is the deal...

i am completely torn. This is a super clean SC and is in great shape given its age, etc, but i just can't decide if i want to start modding it or keep it bone stock and beautiful.
I am on the fence about picking up some supra TT wheels, and possibly lowering it.

any opinions for either side would be greatly appreciated(granted i know this is a "tuner" site).

twastheglow 02-26-2009 04:43 PM

That's a hard call to make and only you can make it. I would say that if you're not sure, don't do anything yet.

:sidenote: I laughed really hard when I saw a post by KingOfDelco. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

SloBalt 02-26-2009 04:49 PM

nice car. always liked them!

Tasteful mods. A low boost turbo kit, low key wheels, quiet yet good sounding exhaust, a suspention thats not too stiff.

Then rock it as a sick DD.

djb5118 02-26-2009 04:52 PM

i was kind of thinking that. wheels and suspension would be first and turbo would come later down the road. thats what i like about the supra wheel is that they are stockish looking so wont draw too much attention

Zillon 02-26-2009 05:30 PM

Just keep it clean/OEM+.

Small drop to minimize wheelgap, a nice flush wheelset, and maybe an upgrade to the '97-00 front bumper.

DPancoast 02-26-2009 05:41 PM

I think having a set of TT wheels would still look good and to most people factory. Or maybe a set of IS300 wheels would fit?

Or just go all out and get some VIP lookin wheels and SLAM it with Camberzzzz lol

Looks good for real man. I'm not mad at you for picking this up instead of an MR2 :p

i was thinking is300 wheels also, but they have a pretty bad offset for the SC and are only 7.5" wide..

DPancoast 02-26-2009 05:52 PM

spacerrrrssss haha...

nah if they aren't ideal for both performance and looks, I say just stick with what you have.

JDMTyler3326 02-26-2009 06:00 PM

Just get some nice rims and lower it then work the **** out of the motor

The Captain 02-26-2009 06:15 PM

Wheels and a drop are almost a necessity. Also a nice origin kit would do wonders. It would still look relatively stockish, but so much better.

jjm4life 02-26-2009 06:53 PM

wheels and a drop will do sooo much for the look of your car. whats the fun in having a stock car anyway?haha

djb5118 04-22-2009 09:47 PM

welp....i have finally started the mod progress

picked up a set of these today:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3538/...6000e0db_b.jpg
(ignore the giant brakes)

got them off of an 08 is350, and they only have 300mi, badass!

next up...suspension

*sigh*i guess im going to mod her afterall

Zillon 04-22-2009 11:33 PM

What's the offset on the IS350 wheels versus the stock SC wheels?
