yeah anything can happen...remember that team that won the superbowl? remember the team that was the hottest team in the league?....howd that one end again

ToTheIX's 04-06-2008 08:56 PM

you cant even compare football and hockey......the giants couldnt beat the patriots in a seven game series

doug 04-06-2008 09:15 PM

apples and oranges.. hockey is essentially nonstop.. heart has a lot more of play in hockey than football. Series playoffs FTW!

im not comparing football to hockey...im saying look what happened there...anything can happen on any particular day or in this case series in sports....theres a reason for the playoffs, to find the best team out of the best teams in said sport...anyone can win....otherwise playoffs would be pointless and they would just give the championship to the team with the best record at the end of the regular season...

i dont care how well the capitals ended the season, because in reality it doesnt mean ****...playoffs are a different thing...the phillies ended last season the hottest team in the majors and crapped out in the playoffs...

no im not comparing hockey to baseball im saying look what happened.

thats the great thing about sports...its not over until its over. come talk to us at the end of the playoffs...well see who the hottest team in the leauge is then.

Nah.. they just ran into a more hot team aka a buzzsaw!

Philadelphia will never learn that you cannot win games through physical play anymore. That hockey was over decades ago. The NHL of today is practically European hockey which focuses more on talent and skill than brawn and muscle. This is what Ed Snyder and all of the other Philadelphia Flyers' big-wigs fail to grasp. Sure, big hits thrill the brain dead, Neanderthal fans, but do those hits win games? No. Until the Flyers begin to build their team around the young guys like Briere, they will continue to fall short of the ultimate goal.

Once again, the Flyers will go to the playoffs and once again they will fail.

You obviously are watching the wrong team. The Flyers have one of the youngest teams in the league.. and have the most players over 20 goals in the season.... they have like one tough-guy, and that's Riley Cote. You fail, try again.

BradC 04-06-2008 09:49 PM

IIRC, the Flyers vs. Caps this year were 2-1-1. Don't talk like your Caps are all hot ****, we did beat you more often than not this year.

you fail as a hockey fan...

One of the best parts of the sport was how physical it was. Same reason Rugby is a blast to watch. It's a physical sport... its just ****ing fun.

What we have now is pussy hockey... but we've got players that grew up watching hockey in the late 80's into the 90's... They want to play the way those guys did.

European sports are a whole hell of a lot more physical than our sports... rugby, football... that's what people love over there... not hockey, not baseball, not cricket.

What do we have? ****ing basketball, our football, baseball...

booooring (well, football is fun to watch)

This country is to damn PC for fun sports to stay fun or be made popular. Rugby could make a killing in this country, we've got awesome teams (the philly men's team is actually very good and one of the top ranked).

:bigeek:

Just because they have one of the youngest teams in the league doesn't mean they are skilled as opposed to tough. And "like one tough-guy"!? Obviously YOU are watching the wrong team. So you're telling me that Downie, Smith, Tolpeko, Upshall, Hatcher, Modry, and Coburn are little cherubs? C'mon man.

It's obvious that we aren't going to see eye to eye about this and I could go on all night about this topic, but I won't. Good luck to your Flyers.

Peace

Matt

Hey, I like big hits and brawls just as much as the next guy, but the point that I was ATTEMPTING to make is that in order to win the cup, you need a team built around skill.

Sure, European sports are more physical than ours—but not ice hockey. One of the few times that true European players touch each other is if they have to shake hands at the end of the game...that's no secret.

Was it the Neanderthal comment that pissed everyone off?

it's like saying we're all a bunch of idiots for liking the old style of game play and are unable to understand the new style w/o those hits...

I understood the previous style of play, and I understand the new style.

Luckily I can see old school hockey when the flyers play the Penguins, Rangers, or Devils :)

Its also bull**** that teams can get rough and ref's don't let the players "work things out"

I was at the thrasher's/flyer's game a couple weeks back and was astonished at the number of dirty hits on the thrasher's side... but when the flyers went to have a chat with them the ref's were all over it like white on rice and broke things up.

essentially 2-1-1 = 2-2 you still won 2 and lost 2, and if you watch hockey you know the caps are all hot ****.....at the moment yes....but they are nonetheless...either way its gonna be a good series, ill be at atleast 2 games, and this is prob the best thing that could happen to the nhl this yr....this and ovechkin bringing home 4 major postseason awards at this point

ezdrummer 04-06-2008 10:19 PM

the flyers will have their hands full with the caps, but should take the series as long as they play smart

Downie is a grinder, that's his job.. to penetrate the corners, work the puck to a finesse player like Briere/Prospal. He also has solid moves and skills to score goals and generate offense.

Smith is a defenseman, his job is to be tough and hold down the front of the net.

Tolpeko is not an every day player.. he rarely sees ice time. He's a chump.

Upshall is like a hybrid player.. he's finesse and quick with the puck, yet he can get deep in the corners and throw his weight (which is not much) around like the rest of them. Scottie Upshall was a STEAL away from Nashville.. he is such a solid player, all around.

Hatcher has changed his playing style to adapt to the new NHL, yet he still has issues.. I agree there.

Modry is a defenseman also, that's his job, to be tough. He moves the puck well, and I believe he was a good pick up for the team. Will he be here next year? Probably not.

Coburn may be tall and a tough guy, but he moves the puck really well and has great vision and sparks great offense.

Please don't argue hockey with me, I've been playing the game since I was 4. You're trying to talk down to someone that watches almost every game the Flyers play. You may have some points, but they're jaded. The Flyers have a TON of skill and a good amount of toughness to back it the hell up. They're such a well rounded team it's not funny, and they can easily whip the Capitals into place. They probably have the most depth out there for any NHL team, and if they can't go all the way this year.. then it is for certain Philly will see a cup in the next few years.

Thanks for wishing them good luck, I'm hoping too.. this city needs a champion.

Caps are hot as hell, when I saw them pick up Federov.. I knew they were going to make some noise. I like the caps, I think it's going to be an awesome series for sure. Two hot teams going at it.. can't wait.

doug 04-15-2008 11:25 PM

crazy freaking game...

EvlEgl 04-15-2008 11:27 PM

Why are you Sorry??? Because you opened your mouth and you look dumb?? Oh in that case...**** The Capitals.

wrx_snobordr 04-16-2008 12:43 AM

Lets not get ahead of ourselves, they have not won anything yet. I am a huge Flyers fan but I am not going to talk **** until the horn blows on the 4th win. The Flyers have been very streaky this year and those streaks would end abruptly and normally after a huge win. Game 4 will be very interesting.

On paper these two teams are even. The Caps have showed spurts of being able to work the Flyers defense down low. It has lead to penalties. If they start capitalizing on their power plays this series goes a different way.

On a side note, the refs tonight were exceptionally bad. That goal was a high stick, I know that was the war rooms call, but it was pretty clear. Also, they missed a few blatent trips on the Flyers and called that pathetic dive by Ovechkin. it actually made me lose a little respect for him. That is something I expect from Crosby, but not him.

Kevin 04-16-2008 12:46 AM

Series should be 3-0

its because gary betman (sp) is a pansy. he is the worst thing to happen to hockey and plenty of people want him gone, especially a lot of flyers fans.

i agree dude. we have a lot of talent coming up. just look at the turn around the team had this year. went from being absolutely horrible to being back in the playoffs and having a really good shot at winning it all.

I agree completely on all points. I wouldn't have minding the tripping call if Ovechkin was called for the corresponding dive.

BlackBulletTSi 04-16-2008 08:12 AM

we were getting f'n screwed in that game for penalties and ovechkin or however you spell it took a obvious dive which was rediculous. We have the momentum and are playing some killer hockey right now. Agreed its only 2 - 1 but it should be 3 - 0 they completely didnt play that 3rd period in the first game. Agreed on the awesome way to bump haha
