Sidekick Slide or LX?!?
Thinking of switching from Verizon to Tmobile. Has anyone tried out the new Sidekick Slide? Whats the biggest differences from the LX to the Slide other than the obvious size of phone & screen?!? How did you like it? I was planning on getting a Verizon Voyager but I've been hearing alot of bad things about their internet service. Opinions welcome because I'm probably going shortly after work today to talk to a Tmobile in my area. Also what plans do you have for Tmobile? I need unlimited texting to anyone on any network as well as internet access.

They're on the Sprint 3g network I believe... Doug will be in soon I'm sure...
$65 a month gets you unlimited everything and 500 minutes. thats unlimited text, gps, internet, email, etc. All of the phones are gps enabled and have most of the free stuff. I plan on getting an ocean or the new Mysto soon... most likely the mysto due to the size :) |
I just hate Sprint. I had them & Nextel and neither of them had good service or customer service when I had issues.

Don't forget to post up what you voted for and your reasoning behind it.

i've heard the new sprint 3g network is one of the better ones out there now a days, but I can't confirm that

i was going to switch to verizon for the voyager but imo its cheap and trying to hard to be the iphone. go test them all out and see which one you like the best. i chose lx because thats what i have and i love it. i dont need a phone that does too many things, imo thats when they have freezing problems. the sk lx is advanced yet simple enough to fit my needs, its really all about what you want out of a phone.... granite all phone companies have their advantages and disadvantages, you just have to pick the best one for you. i will bash the slide though because its made by motorola and they are by far the WORST phone maker ever.

I say the Voyager. LG makes an awesome phone, and I have yet to have a huge issue with Verizon's network. But as others stated, check em out in store, and see what you like.

lg usually does make sweet phones but it seems like they might of rushed this one out too fast IMO. i forget the other lg phone thats the same one without the touchscreen, but whatever it is, beats the voyager imo. |
I like Verizon cause their calling network has been the best for me since I signed up. Being a truck driver I was all over the East Coast so I ran into a lot of different areas and Verzion never let me down. I've been hearing about issues with their internet tho on the Voyager. Zerious who makes the SK LX?

a company called danger which is owned by sharp i believe. it has its own os, which imo is where you lose all the freezing from windows based phones. im pretty sure danger just got bought buy microsoft though..i just hope they dont fudge it up.

The Danger Hiptop, also sold as the T-Mobile Sidekick, is a GPRS/EDGE mobile phone with wireless Internet capabilities and some functionality similar to a PDA.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7] The Hiptop is sold by T-Mobile in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany and Austria. SunCom used to sell the device in some parts of the U.S.,[3][4] and Fido is the exclusive Hiptop carrier in Canada—sales in Canada were discontinued after Fido was bought by Rogers Communications, at the end of the Hiptop 2's life; this is partially because the Hiptop is a competitor to Rogers' BlackBerry business. In Germany, the Hiptop service is also offered by E-Plus including a flat rate tariff. In Australia, the Hiptop device and service are sold by Telstra.
The Hiptop software was originally designed by the company Danger, Inc., which is located in Palo Alto, California. The original Sidekick hardware was designed by Danger and manufactured by Flextronics. The Sidekick 2, 3, and iD are manufactured by Sharp Corporation in Japan and designed, respectively, by Danger and then Danger in partnership with Sharp. All versions of the Sidekick were developed in close partnership with T-Mobile. Danger provides the Hiptop OS software and back-end services for the device. These include a catalog of downloadable software applications, email hosting, instant messaging and web proxies. |
some info on the buyout

I have a 49.99 plan, which includes 1000 anytime minutes, free nights and weekends. Sidekick service for 19.99 i think it is. includes unlimited text and ****. then i got insurance which is 7.99 a month i think. o and my faves which is 5 a month. my bill is around $86 with tax. I never go over the 1000 minutes, and i use my phone alot. Mostly text everyone i know. |
i work at tmobile and you can get like a 39.99 rateplan and the $20/month sidekick add on and thats unlmtd texting/internet
|
i have a sidekick and have considderd going elsewhere, saying that i have looked into every other service and to get what i have for 65 is at least 90 anywhere else. and as for the helio everyone i know with sprint service hates it and gets service nowhere

I went from Cingular who quoted the fewest dropped calls using the Cingular 8125 and that thing just sucks, then I decided to go Helio Drift and never had any issue with drop calls what's so ever. One down side about Helio's GPS is that it doesn't work as great if you go down south. It starts to slow down and sometimes freezes. Plus the battery to the Helio Drift dies like no tomorrow. I switched to T-mobile because Helio screwed me over when my phone was stolen. Now I have the Sidekick LX and never looked back. The service is awesome and so far never had a drop call *knock on wood*

Ok so I picked up my Voyager this morning. Its a nice phone but the internet is horrendous. Just trying to get on this site took me about 5 minutes then I had to log in and wait another 5 mins. Then I moved onto my AIM. WoW words can't describe how horrible that was. Everything else about the phone is great. Think I might return it and just go back to Tmobile and get the Sidekick LX. I was there this morning before going to Verizon and I played with the Slide & LX. The slide is nice but the buttons are just too damn small I kept hitting more than one at a time. I like how the screen slides better than how the LX swivels but I can learn to live with it. I didn't get to try out the internet or AIM functions but they can't be any worse than Verizon's. I couldn't even get more than 30 people on my buddy list and it was people I barely even talk to anyway. Took forever and everytime I shut the screen it logs me off anyway. FAIL! So I'm probably going back after work to return it and get the Sidekick LX instead. Hope they don't rape me on the cancelation fee for Verizon.

Helio Ocean ftmfw.

So I returned the Voyager tonight after work. I came home first and played with it for a solid hour and was only able to get onto 1 of the 8 pages I tried to and still couldn't get more than like 30 people on my AIM buddy list. Probably going to pick up a Sidekick LX tomorrow after work.

Cause its on Sprint. Sprint and I don't get along...So unless you can prove to me Sprint has changed (which I know they haven't cause my Mom still has them) then you're fighting a losing battle. Sorry just know what I see on a daily basis with her service.
