Trade cars with my bro?

My older brother recently got a 2005 Honda s2000 with about 30k miles on the clock its totally stock in the red color. Hes saying the car is too much for him to handle cause he went to it from an automatic altima and hes saying he has a hard time keeping it in a straight line in the wet and doesnt like the noise. He is willing to trade cars with me with an extra 10k on my side. Should I start savin up money or is he askin a touch much?? My car according to KBB is worth 6335 plus like 1000 for the work done so like 7500 or so. Help a homie out...

P.S. the car was rebuilt he got it at an auction but I dont know for how much. Has an R title brand

first, your car is worth at most 6k. aftermarket stuff doesn't add any value, in most cases it subtracts. you really need to find out what was damaged. i don't know about this state but some to get a rebuilt title the car has to be up to factory spec, so in some cases you can get a great deal on a great car.

i'd say go for it, an s2000 has way more potential than a 4 door d-series. i would be very careful, your civic has cloth interior and i believe the s2000 has leather, it's not very well known but i read somewere that denim jackets tend to be extra slick on leather so you might end up flying out of the car if you have the top down, just a heads up

CarbonIS 07-06-2007 09:43 PM

ugh, i think the answer here is obvious....if u can afford the new insurance.

auk113 07-06-2007 09:44 PM

if his driving record isn't FUBAR it shouldn't be a huge difference. I think he's like 18ish so he's going to get reemed on insurance for anything, at 17 my qoute for a 96 neon and a 00 mustang GT was only like a 5 dollar a month difference

not 100% sure about PA but "R" title in WA means rebuilt, meaning it had a salvage title but was rebuilt to factory spec

06evors 07-06-2007 09:45 PM

A car w/ 162 lbs ft of torque is too much to handle?..........mmmmkay.

R is reconstructed...we dont know what happened thought. Ive heard of cars that were hit and rebuilt to get it, or cars that were stolen and recovered to get it...cars that were flooded, etc.etc. we have NO history of this car prior to his purchase

A) He sucks at driving
B) He sucks at driving
C) Unless he recived the car with slicks it not going anywhere in the rain unless he makes it, which would mean he sucks at driving
D) Both A and C

but whatever, go for it. They are awesome cars (if this one is rebuilt right)

05GT 07-06-2007 09:47 PM

Well, I would trade your car for a scooter, so I would definitly say take the deal. But how is it you are going to be able to save $10k for that when you can't even afford a real exhaust?????

I was trying to be subtle in my post but I agree 100%.

Save your money – you already have a working car and there are cheaper ways to go fast. Insurance will be higher also. Hindsight is priceless and I blew allot of cash when I was younger. Ten grand is allot of doe and you can use that money for something else.

But of course, when I was 18 I definitely would’ve thrown 10K at a car… it’s too tempting when you’re young.

its not that i cant afford a real exhaust, but since it adds no power anyway whats the point...so i did a side exit exhaust just to be different

LOL. The hell with sugar coating...
This whole scenario seems like BS to me. Every time I turn around, I see some new and amazingly STUPID thread by cleanneon. I.E "I play lots of Forza 2 and I learned a lot so now I want to pro race."

i was refering to people on tst getting bothered by stuff you post, not you getting riled up.

turbo4g63 07-06-2007 10:14 PM

If that didn't have a rebuild title, than you'd be getting a good deal...but those salvage titles destroy the value of a car.

If you can afford the insurance than i'd say go for it...but if you do get it, be careful...that is a lot more car than what you are used to. I wouldn't want you to crash it within a week of getting it ya know what i mean

Sometimes his stupidity is too much to not let go. Like every post for example.

No, those titles are worth poop. Don't buy those kind of titles unless its for like $3000 or less.

foss 07-07-2007 12:51 AM

I have a matchbox S2000. I'll trade it for your Civic + 10k. Holla at me if it's a deal.

CleanNeon98 07-07-2007 12:58 AM

My biggest thing here is this.

The first gen s2000 had 9krpm and 153 torque
the second (my bros) had 8krpm and 162 torque

Is losing 1000RPM of play/shift room really worth the tiny 9 torque increase? Which can be easily made up with a few mods

Gorilla Unit 33 07-07-2007 01:03 AM

straight out if you dont do this your a dumbass and deserve to be hung by a bycycle tire tube. end of story.

Buster 07-07-2007 01:04 AM

this is why i put you on ignore, im glad we still have that button.

So why are you posting here?

DC2.2GSR 07-07-2007 02:13 AM

on topic: reconstructed titles are easy to get turned into regular titles, all it takes is extensive paperwork and receipts from new or used parts and VIN #'s from the car(s) you got the used parts from. basically since you described havign no info on the car at all you're screwed. if you're looking to make a trailor queen out of this S2K, go for it.. but pay him MUCH less then he's asking. if you're looking to drive it then sell it later, forget about it. it's mor etrouble then its worth.

off topic: this thread is kind of amusing. there's a lot of stupid in here. cleanneon, i'm getting this strange feeling that everyone wants you to stop posting dumb threads.. don't know where i'm getting that though, just a hunch i guess

TurboDSMJ 07-07-2007 02:17 AM

Buy my goddamn S2000 instead, and quit being ricey.

den9 07-07-2007 03:22 AM

tell ur bro to come down on the price a couple grand then buy it

was that a joke?

you're not talking about the 9lbs/tq difference hrere, you're talking about going from a 4 door FWD grocery getter to a entry level RWD sports car

MPowerKai 07-07-2007 09:34 AM

How do you go from having no money to having S2000 money??

I love driving my S2000 in the rain, especially in thunderstorms, seperates the men from the boys.....Also because I like how much easier the tail comes out and how it chirps like every gear shifting at 4k rpms.

Your brother thinks the 05's are hard to drive he should drive an 01, the newer ones are so watered down.

I will try to answer your questions and try to predict any follow up questions.

If your that worried about having another 1000 rpms that is a pretty easy fix. Get an AP1 (2000-2003) S2000 gauge cluster and install it, next get an AP1 ecu, this will enable the F22c to redline at 9k and you will be able to see with your new gauge cluster. Yes, a lot of people are doing it on s2ki. Yes, Billman250 the leading S2000 mechanic/expert in the east coast has deemed it safe.

Is there any danger in redlining at 9k rpms? As with all modifications, yes there is some danger. There is some reasoning behind taking away 1000 revolutions and dispite popular belief it isn't because of the extra 200cc's of displacement. The reason is because they wanted to give you some extra breathing space just incase you misshift it as many AP1 owners have done. Now onto why it is a little dangerous, you may damage your retainers and need to check them every now and then.

Your insurance will definately go up because it is a convertible and probably has a higher crash rate. Your fuel consumption will go up, this is inevitable. Your maintainance will go up. You will have to use super, not regular.

Can I drive it in when it snows/winter? Yes, I can drive it with Blizzak LM-22's and nads of steel. Can you drive it when it snows? No, you cannot. Given your limited knowledge and seat time of rwd vehicles, especially ones that have a funny suspension geometry and no traction or stability control I would say you probably shouldn't even drive it when it's raining in the summer. Will you crash if you drive it when it's snowing? Yes, there is a 99% chance you will lose control and have to rebuild it again. Do you have money to rebuild an S2000? No, you do not.
