Workout supplements..whey protein, creatine, etc.

I used to go to the gym a lot and took Whey protein and Creatine to supplement my diet and excersize. I found that it worked well for me, and decided to get back into the game with a full diet, gym schedule, and want to bring back whey and creatine in my life. My questions are for those who use these or other products. What do you think is the best product out there. I still have 3 bottles of Creatine-1200 monohydrate (90 capsules per) and about 5lbs or whey protein by "designer whey", and all dont expire till 2009 and 2010. What are some new ingenious products out there that actually work. And lastly, what is this NO2 supplement ive been hearing about. Furthermore, what is the best site to order from as far as customer service and price? Thanks

Drftpretty 04-08-2007 03:25 PM

Dont be an jackass, that junk pokes holes in your liver like you wouldnt believe. Please dont't try to modify your body un-naturally.

No thanks.

HKS83 04-08-2007 03:39 PM

Why not try naturally first? I've had great success throughout my wrestling career with an appropriate diet and no muscle enhancements. Vitamins and whey are fine by my standards.

Honduh 04-08-2007 03:55 PM

I thought that creatine stuff just made your muscles look big by putting water h20 in them but didnt acutally help you get stronger?

77F-150 04-08-2007 04:00 PM

drink more, that worked for me

StealthTC 04-08-2007 04:00 PM

for NO2 Supp. Depending on what your body can handle. I have stuck with N.O. Xplode. The best NO product I have ever tried was N.O. Shotgun but it has a ton of creatine in it. I do not like as much creatine due to the fact I cycle on and off ever 3 weeks so I do not build a tolerance for the product and with a heavy creatine product as soon as you stop your muscles will just shrink.

The product you probably heard of is NANO x9 its insane. I tried it once and I had to leave the gym because I almost went insane. I stick to the stuff I know works. For me its NO Xplode pre workout, GNC Whey post workout and 2amino acids tabs for a little extra protein kick.

Cheapest site out there is Vitacost.com and they have awesome cust service.

P.S. Creatine does not just add water it will increase dermit(sp) muscle mass

Honduh 04-08-2007 04:03 PM

what the hell is dermit muscle mass?

Adam496 04-08-2007 04:04 PM

I would just stick with the creatine, vitamins, and creatine. Bodybuilding.com is a very good place for good products at discount prices.

Basically "wakes up" muscle than you didnt know you had or builds muscle that you normally wouldnt work out. Gives you that little extra kick.

DoubleOughtCel 04-08-2007 05:25 PM

So you meant to say "dormant?"

bastid 04-08-2007 05:46 PM

Right now I'm on a high protein, low fat, moderate carb diet and I'm working out about 3 times weekly with a 1 day of moderate cardio. I am also taking a small amount of creatine and glutamine daily (5g each).

CarbonIS 04-08-2007 05:54 PM

I was working out for about 4 months in the beginning of '06 without taking
anything but protein shakes, but I got to a point where I just couldn't lift any
additional weight, so I went to GNC and asked what I could do to fix that, and
I got Anavol and Aminovol. Anavol is a creatine/glutamine combo, and
Aminovol is basically a protein synthesis booster. Since I'm naturally not the
biggest guy, I do not take the full dosage that is suggested on the bottles, I
take about half or a little more. The results are noticeable. I'm just getting
back into it now, and have been lifting for about 3 weeks about 5 times a
week with an olympic bench set and free weights that I purchased and I've
already gained back about 7 pounds of muscle that I had lost over the past 7
months or so.

Willdue 04-08-2007 06:06 PM

Don't take creatine. When I played football, me and 4 other kids got creatine poison of the liver. That's juss my 2cents.

yeah thanks....last night was rough my brain is still turning on.....DORMANT

DoubleOughtCel 04-08-2007 06:08 PM

Lol, it's cool. I was confused so I was just trying to clarify. At first I thought I was about to learn a new word today haha.

cxrock16 04-08-2007 06:16 PM

yeah if you take creatine wrong and dont drink alot of water it can screw with your liver. thats what i heard anyways

StealthTC 04-08-2007 06:44 PM

They have to have been stacking it with something or taking WAY to much for their body mass. Creatine is manufactured naturally in the body from amino acids glycine, arginine, and methionine. It actually takes place in the kidneys, liver, and pancreas. Creatine is actually just a constituent found in meats.

So when its used properly its very effective.

The suggested use of creatine is 0.3g per lb of weight(your body weight) thats for your loading cycle which is about 5 days. Than after for the rest of your cycle it drops down and recommended usage is 2.7g per day.

Hope this helps!

PS. I dont even take creatine besides what is in the NO2 product I use. As stated before creatine will give you the size but not the strength. NO2 products give you that extra push for those last couple reps that hurt the most but are the most effective in your workout.

SovXietday 04-08-2007 09:16 PM

God damn, how are these creatine myths still around? ****s been out for years!

First of all, no, creatine does not make you stronger. It gives you the ability to do more reps with the same amount of weight. Basically at the molecular level creatine acts as the bodies first form of energy, it also has the least reprocussions as far as waste goes. It doesn't last long though, and the body soon moves on to stage number 2 which is using glucose for energy which creates that good old lactic acid that we all love so much.

So, by saturating the muscles with creatine (IE, the supplement) you increase the amount of creatine in the cells, which also increases the amount of water the cell intakes which is where you get extra size. However, since there is more creatine in the cells they will have that first stage of efficient energy for a longer amount of time, thus the ability during weight lifting to put up more reps.

Creatine also helps cell recovery along with increasing brain function (alertness, reaction, thought). As far as liver damage goes, if you're using the correct dosage and drinking enough water, there is absolutely no reason why you should have any problems. As usual, illnesses and "poisoning" coming from a supplement naturally created in the body is the result of the user not following the given directions.

That is all.

StealthTC 04-08-2007 09:20 PM

Couldn't have said it bettr myself

jc8889 04-08-2007 09:47 PM

Im a little old school, I just go to the gym and work out naturally, I dont wanna get cancer in 10 years from stuffing all this BS inside me. NATURAL IS THE WAY TO GO, the down side is you gotta be commited and work real hard.

That is probably because they were using it incorrectly.

CleanNeon98 04-08-2007 10:25 PM

Yea, I used Maximum pump before, and now I got 3 bottles of this sitting at my house

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...2128&rd=1&rd=1

Whey protein is really good for you from what ive heard, and since its natural, i dont see it having any side effects. But yea creatine did give me that little kick I found myself doing 8 reps instead of the usual 6, and thats always nice. But yea, the bottles say to take it with lots of water, and since you take it before you work out, and drink during your routine, you are getting the right ammount of water either way.

StealthTC 04-08-2007 10:30 PM

also 6 to 8 reps is ok if your going very heavy weight but I recommend pushing out at least 10. Most of my workouts are 3 to 4 sets of 10 or 12 reps. I blow each muscle out 1 day a week so they have a full week to recover so I do not strain or hurt myself.

I dont usually have the convinience of going to the gym 5-6 times a week as much as i would love to, so I gotta get arms/shoulders, then chest/back and abs/legs to make it into 3 days

yea well i still have enough protein and creatine to last me for a while, so il live on that for now....creatine doesnt have to be cycled does it? this is monohydrate creatine, and regular ol whey

StealthTC 04-08-2007 11:52 PM

well regardless anything should be cycled because you dont wanna build a tolerance once you build a tolerance u will have to take more and more and more to become effective and thats when you could encounter probs.

Sberk06 04-09-2007 01:08 AM

no xplode or soemthing like that is what a buddy of mine used to take and said it worked wonders. ive also head from a few other people its really good. when i used to goto the gym i tried using protein now and then, and bought creatine, but never really used it. i wasnt on a good pattern to use creatine. honestly only use a supplement like that if you a. plan on going more then 3 times a week, and b. if you make damn sure that you do at least 5-10 minutes of cardio each time. just my input..

blu4door 04-09-2007 09:56 AM

NO Explode is basically an energy booster to take before your workout. It won't make you any bigger, it will just give you the energy to lift harder, longer.

I like creatine, and you can't go wrong with whey.

Your best bet, IMO, would be to stick with what you have and hit the gym when you can. Make sure you don't slack off when you are at the gym, and you will see results. It will take a while, but you will get there.

I go monday, tuesday, thursday, and friday.

In an effort to get more mass in my arms, I just switched up my routine to:
monday- back and chest
tuesday- bi's and tri's
thursday- shoulders and legs
friday- bi's and tri's

after a while I will go back to my usual:
monday-back and bi's
tuesday-chest and tri's
thursday-shoulders
friday-legs

CleanNeon98 04-09-2007 10:08 AM

nano x9 has mixed reviews, so im not trying it...il use what i got, and then try the n.o. xplode

Broken5hift 04-09-2007 10:08 AM

i recommend American Whey for your whey suppliment. The GNC in newtown carries it, it is hard to find but the best whey to get IMO

i used to use BSN NO-Xplode, i highly recommend it. like blu stated, its only to help enhance your workouts. you can stack it with creatine (which is what mike used to do), but i always just took it by itself and it worked great for me. i was able to run longer, lift heavier and do more reps. its like an on and off switch for your body.

I have never tried the NO shotgun but i want too. right now im using BSN nitrix. your supposed to take 3 pills 3 times a day. i crush up three and take them an hour before my workout and get the same type of gains as NO-Xplode.

Also, i take fish oil, potassium & bmagnesium, and L-arginine. but Nitrix has enough L-arginine in it so i dont need to take my daily pills with it.

I agree going to the gym without suppliments is good. but when i know i have a full night to spend at the gym i def use the NO-xplode or nitrix to help me out while im there to get the best workout possible.

N.O. has to be cycled i think, but what about whey and creatine...can use continiously, or have to cycle as well?

N.O. does not need to be cycled. unless your using it multiple times daily for an extended amount of time.

N.O. is not a steroid substance that you need to hop off of every few weeks. If anything your body may become accustomed to its effects, in which case you can add more or take a week break

Whey

its 3.5lbs of chocolate flavor. 25 grams per serving.

CleanNeon98 04-09-2007 01:24 PM

Just took the last 6 pills of my Maximum Pump, and I gotta say that they taste horrible. I hope these new ones arent as bad. About to get out of class early, and head to the gym...yes i popped 6 horsepills in the back of the class. The problem is that you have to take them with lots fo water, and that gets me tired more than anything.

foss 04-09-2007 02:41 PM

i know theres some big asian guy on here with a civic thats huge into this stuff

CleanNeon98 04-09-2007 02:51 PM

Just got back. Definately did better than I thought I would have after about a year time off, so im hoping to gradually move up...its gona take lots of time and pain to get to where i was before, but itl be worth it.
