What do you think is fair?

So hears the situation. Me and a bunch of my friends are all swimming at my friends house. It starts to get later so some of my freinds change into their normal clothes. As were all sitting around two of my friends, both of whom are changed out of their bathing suits, are by the pool. One tries to push the other one in. He fails but I then push my friend who tried to push the other one in. He had his motorola razr in his pocket. Today he went out and bought another razr for 250. His mom will pay 50 dollars and I told him I shouldn't ahve to pay anything, but to be nice iw ill pay half. He says no he wants 200. what do you think is fair.

Scapegoat 07-05-2006 02:57 PM

he's an idiot for hanging out by a pool with his phone in his pocket...

also, tell the dipshat to rinse his phone out with distilled water, take it all apart, and let it dry. Should be fine unless something was fried.

KrautFed20V 07-05-2006 02:59 PM

f em' it's not your responsibility.

Crzyguy972 07-05-2006 02:59 PM

something sounded fried. when we put the battery in, it made a hissing noise

Scapegoat 07-05-2006 03:03 PM

take it apart and find out

KrautFed20V 07-05-2006 03:04 PM

just let it dry it'll be ok

wrx_snobordr 07-05-2006 03:07 PM

His bad, he ried to push someone in, he started it, he should have ben prepared to go in himelf.

~Brian~ 07-05-2006 03:07 PM

No matter what anybody else was doing, you were the one who pushed him into the pool while he was fully dressed, right?

Whether he was dumb for having his phone, keys, pager, whatever in his pockets, it dosen't matter. YOU were the one who pushed him in the pool, which broke his phone. You need to take responsibility for your actions and replace his phone.

KrautFed20V 07-05-2006 03:10 PM

Nah, electronics dry, it should be fine as long as it's not salt water, there was no need to run out and buy a new phone immediately...

it sounds like he tried to turn on the phone while it was still wet causing the sizzle sound...

TROLL 07-05-2006 03:13 PM

remember the good old days before cell phones when you could push someone in the pool and not have to worry about frying any expensive electronics?
tough situation, but the phone wouldnt be borked if you didnt push him in the pool.

Scapegoat 07-05-2006 03:13 PM

he is an idiot. Let the phone dry, open it up. clean it with distilled water, it will wash away any minerals and chlorine that was in the pool water. Laugh at him for buying a new phone when the old one turns on.

If he fell in a pool or whatever I am pretty sure there is Chlorine in that. Not like he dropped the phone in a puddle. Not too sure what affect chlorine or whatever else may be in that pool to treat it may do to electronics. What service courier is he with? I know with a lot of them, they offer phone insurance for like $2-3/month and he can just dry it out and say it stopped working. This way only $50 has to be spent on a new phone instead of $250.

But if you guys really feel that strong forward to be a good friend and get him another phone this dick deserves an eBay one. Don't pay retail!

Crzyguy972 07-05-2006 03:15 PM

OK i wasn't completly clear. This didn't happen today its been about four days. So the phone had ample time to dry. At first it wouldnt turn on now, it only turns on but it only lights up or somehting.

Crzyguy972 07-05-2006 03:16 PM

Also it was into a pool. He went to cingular and apparently on the back inside there is a little light. The light turns red if it was in water and thats how they know.

I am the RAZR queen...if you want me to take a look at it an see if I can reprogram/reflash it I can try. It won't damage the phone anymore then what it really is.

But again...check into the phone insurance deal!

If this dude told you that seems like total BS. Ask WRX27 he works for Cingular about that light deal. Because if that little "red light" can come on when the phone was wet then the phone should be able to come on too.

KrautFed20V 07-05-2006 03:21 PM

i disagree with distilled water but on the other hand ISO alcohol

+1000....has worked on every electronic item I've ever gotten wet. Just make sure that battery is disconnected ASAP before you soak it in alcohol.

poolmike 07-05-2006 05:56 PM

I know a little about this subject. My POS Motorola V90 swims laps on a regular basis. 2 weeks ago I dropped it into a pool skimmer where it got stuck in a pipe for 2 hours before I dislodged it. Took it apart, washed w/alcohol, let it dry....works like a champ. Dropped it off the high dive at Princeton University's pool a couple months ago...still works.

Tell your buddy to send it my way, I'll fix that $h!t for ya.

Also, Be sure to tell him that he got what was coming to him....he started it.

MPowerKai 07-05-2006 06:09 PM

I think it's your fault and you should cough up the cash.

He tried to push someone in the pool thats fine but you didn't have to try to push him in. It's like the old question goes If everyone else jumped off a bridge would you?

DoubleOughtCel 07-05-2006 07:33 PM

Kick his ass and break his new phone.

Vypurr2 07-05-2006 07:47 PM

As far as that "light"...Its not a light, its a small strip on the battery which changes color when exposed to water. My sister had her phone just stop working without insurance and Verizon wouldn't do **** because that strip had turned red.

JessDUB 07-05-2006 11:38 PM

I have a razr. I was skimming my pool a few weeks ago, and my phone was in my shirt near my .. upper half.. ANYWAY, i bent over to get a leaf, and my phone fell right in the deep end to the bottom.
Took me 5 mins to get it out. it wouldnt turn on or anything...

Put it in ziplock bag, filled with un-boiled rice. Left it in there for 6-8 hours... Put it on the charger for an hour, turned it on. WORKS. trust me, works every time.
Do this trick to his phone, make it work again, then tell him you're not paying anything :)

dont do it! dont be a slave to the system!

321Gone_ 07-06-2006 08:34 AM

250 for a razor? wth? Don't the mp3 razors cost like 59 bucks or something.

Also, i suggest trying to fix it and then if it works don't pay him.

Scapegoat 07-06-2006 08:43 AM

razr's are $250 w/o a contract, slvr's are $300 w/o a contract

james_ls 07-06-2006 11:26 AM

I just had the same **** happen (kinda) with a guy that used to be a friend.

He took it to that big of a bitch level...meh nevermind...not about me.

Just give him 25 or 50 bucks and tell him to shove it up his ass; you can fix his other phone...

God this kid is...http://www.comedycentral.com/images/...ecialed_m4.jpg

LSHatch 07-06-2006 01:57 PM

"Dude, my phone was in my pocket."
"Oh man, I'm sorry. I didn't know."
"It's all good. You mind helping me fix it?"(Not pay..Fix.)

That is how that convo should have went.

If you get pushed in a POOL, at a POOL party, then play at your own risk. I never have my phone on me when I'm near a pool.

JessDUB 07-06-2006 01:59 PM

deff dont pay. do the rice trick.

and kevin come back

Intercooled T 07-06-2006 02:03 PM

if it were me, i'd be fine with you paying half. but since it's not, and YOU pushed him, you should pay. i just retuned my razr cause of a defect, too bad now that his is soaked he can't do the same. That little dot behind the battery should be pink now and is no-good for a return. Just eat the 200
