Nice improvement on the second run. Twelves aren't too far out of reach ;)

koho2731 04-01-2006 04:45 PM

It's an Exedy. The shop I got it from www.Turbo-Concepts.com are kind of sponsoring me with dicounts on parts so they painted the pressure plate to there shop color
I may have my buddy do it form me while I'm recovering, but then I'll have to do all of the wiring on his Starion

getting a puck clutch was probably the stupidest thing you could've done- ESPECIALLY at your power level.

do some research before you put that thing in there, i think you'll hate it and it'll destroy the drivetrain. you need an ACT 2600, no if-ans or buts about it.

- former dsm'r that swears by ACT and street disks.

## if you don't believe me then explain to me why you need a puck clutch?

evo8power 04-01-2006 09:41 PM

sleeperstyle is exactly right.....i just switched to a puck clutch due to my power level and i cant stand it, but i need it, you dont, no offense, get a nice street disk and you will be set for a great drive and good launches at your level and even when you make more power, get rid of that clutch!!!!

peteyturbo 04-01-2006 09:43 PM

Zactly, I personally would have gone with the stock disc and 2600 PP, that combo works awesome..

So what do you think my power level is? I'm mean 450+whp isn't much of a stretch with my set up and a good tune. I did some research and from what I could find ACT has been having some quality issuses recently and people blowing them out very quickly I for one don't like swapping out clutches every other month.

evo8power 04-02-2006 08:19 AM

you make 450+ whp and run 13's????

I did research on that awhile back also.

But the only problems I consistently came across ACT referred to “Lockout,” and it was always far beyond 8,000rpm (and from what I recall, the problem is correctable by making minor adjustments.) Actually, I found the same amount of people blowing Exedy clutches to ACT.

Other than that, from what I’ve read, their clutches seem to be fine.

theres really no need for a puck style clutch with only 450whp unless you have extra money for drivetrain parts

I wasn't running full boost nor in my effieceny range yet. If you noticed I said a good tune. Not to mention I was running rich that night also. And having heat soaking problems too. Not to mention it was the only car I had there and didn't want to blow my clutch and find a way for my wife and myself to get home. It was the first time at the track and I am not too happy with the times.

The deal with the clutch that I bought is that it was put together for my setup that I have on my car by the guys who built my turbo. Its still an Exedy clutch but has a custom pressure plate.

TurboGTP 04-02-2006 05:56 PM

you dont mention a lot do you....lol

nice runs! Get that thing tuned in!

sleeperstyle 04-02-2006 06:41 PM

450awhp . IF you ahd racegas, this, that, and the third.

i guess you never heard of overclutching a car. i don't really care, do what you want i was just trying to help.

no offense also, but you obviously havn't done much research. like petey said, people hold down ALOT of power with a 2600 and stock/street disk, and if you really make that whp then all you have to do is get the 2900 pp with street disk (which i ran for a while, my awd car used to ever-so-slightly chirp 3rd  ). i say you didn't do your research because people have been running that combo forever (it seems at least 7 years) and everybody that runs it swears by it.

i'd like to know what shop reccomended the puck clutch for your application. how many dsm's have they done/ do they do?

I appreciate the help, but when you come off trying to insult my intelligence. It really doesn't seem like help. I know that the ACT 2600 w/ street disk has been a proven combo, but as I said before done the research I did there was a problem of the disk turning into kitty hair after 2000 miles. The shop that put the combo together has been around for a while (1978) and have done more then a few DSM's, but there shop car right now is a Mark III Supra. As for not being able to hit 450awhp what do you think is going to stop me from hitting it?

9 Ball 04-09-2006 02:56 PM

Almost 10,000 miles on my clutch. Works fine. :)

It doesn't take 30 years to realize what clutch works on a dsm. Get rid of the puck, get a street disk. I don't know much about exedy but i know the 2600 will hold power for low 11s no problem and the 2900 with the street disk will hold even more.

What's your current setup(motor, turbo etc)?

koho2731 04-09-2006 03:57 PM

P&P T3/TO4E 57trim .63 a/r, Ported 2G exhaust manifold, 3" Turbo Back, Tial 38mm WG, HKS SSQV, FMIC, DSM Chips Stage III Chip, SAFC-II, Buscher Coil On Plug set-up Walbro 255, 650cc injectors, Bosch FPR, Dejon Tool intake

it doesn't take 30 years to figure out a clutch combo, but they aren't some fly by night shop either. For the most part Exedy and ACT use the same clutch parts Ie they are made by the same company, but ACT's puck disk are unsprung and the Exedy is a sprung disk

olmytsi 04-09-2006 04:06 PM

That is a 400whp setup...start tuning :)

koho2731 04-09-2006 04:18 PM

I still have a few thing I want to pick up before the end of the season, cams (272/272) and a 91-94 TB. Then I'll pretty much be done until I build the eng I'm still undecided if I want to keep it a 2L or stroke it to a 2.3L
