1982 vw rabbit

Picked this cream puff up this past week. She's a little rough around the edges, but she's just about 30 years old so what can you expect. I got some nice plans for it so hopefully it all works out, its a nice platform to start, not much rust at all and a great color :P

caldwell 01-10-2012 02:37 PM

That they do. My buddy had one lowered with a VR-T and the thing was straight monster. Seriously amazing little sleeper, I have seen that car destroy tons of cars on the high way

SHOdude 01-10-2012 09:07 PM

i was just poking a little fun at how much roll it has right now lol, but hey i bet this thing would handle like a go kart with the right coil set up

Shipman 01-11-2012 04:00 AM

This could be really nice

Asif22 01-11-2012 06:45 AM

Just over 2000lbs they're a great car to throw a 200-250whp motor in and surprise a few people

Haha yup stock suspension is nothing special. Poly bushings everywhere, coils, and a rear sway bar they a pretty much exactly like a go kart :)

thanks for sharing, id like to do a build like that one day i just don't have the time or money right now :(

Picked up the euro bumpers yesterday and also got a set of 15" 3 piece epsilon southern ways wheels. They're porsche fitment and i don't even know the exact specs so it was kind of a shot in the dark buying them but we'll see how it goes. I'm going to refinish them real quick and then do some test fitting so i can order adapters :)

one8turbo 01-19-2012 05:45 PM

ok so heres a picture of the wheels i got. 15x7 5x130 epsilon southern ways. no bends or curb rash that can't be easily sanded out. $225 :)

Any ideas for center color? I'm between orange, white, cream, or brown.

And heres a picture of the car with the coil overs and euro bumpers installed, the bumpers definitely make the car look 10000x better imo

Big_Jim 01-19-2012 05:49 PM

how about color matched to the body color?

considering it, but I want to get them powder coated, not painted and I'm worried they'd never really match and the difference would look awkward. Im leaning towards orange to match the pinstripe, or brown because...well it would fit in with the cars colors. I also hate that "hey look at me my wheels are a ridiculous color" look so orange worries me honestly. I like it because i think it will match well, btu if everyone is going to think I'm some scenester wanna be ass hole i wouldn't want to do it.

lownslow95 01-19-2012 06:15 PM

Honestly, I would do brown. Just seems like in my mind it would actually look good in this car, and I'm one who hates odd ball colors like that.

one8turbo 01-19-2012 06:19 PM

yea i def think it would look good. Wheel color is the last thing i have to decide on right now though. Still have to make sure the adapters i ordered are going to work out, then **** with the camber, then order tires while I'm polishing the lips up, and finally get the faces coated lol...busy 2-3 weeks ahead of me

94integra 01-19-2012 06:24 PM

nice, theres one by my house same color and 4 door in mint condition. wheels are awesome, good luck with the build.

Vtecepidemic 01-19-2012 07:19 PM

Cream or brown.

Euro bumpers are good. I like the look.

one8turbo 01-19-2012 11:25 PM

yea I'm really leaning towards brown now...well see when the time comes. And thanks, i really think the bumpers made a huge difference.

one8turbo 01-28-2012 12:13 AM

just gonna leave this here. Looks like my "idk the specs of these wheels so ill just order 20mm adapters" plan is going to work just fine.

caldwell 01-28-2012 02:19 PM

Vtecepidemic 01-28-2012 03:04 PM

remember: toe kills tires, not camber :)

VQpoweredZ 02-14-2012 04:09 PM

This is great man.

I'm thinking about picking up a diesel mk1 caddy as a project and parts car over the summer. Any major rust problems at all with this? I'm praying I can get lucky and find something that isn't in terrible shape.

20 mm adapters worked out perfect, brown would look good on the faces. Can't wait to see updates.

A rust free diesel caddy that runs is gonna pull $5k easily :/ but a great car nonetheless. Luckily I'm prett much rust free as well :D

And yea the wheels are getting put on hold as i just ordered some corrado steelies the other day so i can actually get the car on the road again. The epsilons will be on by show season probably though

Damn I gotta start saving and searching more then, thanks for the heads up though. I'll probably shoot you a PM if I end up finding one for some advice, still really new to the vw world haha. Glad to hear that your Rabbit is basically rust free too, i've heard some horror stories.

KurtyIce 02-15-2012 12:57 PM

this thing is going to be so beautiful, there's nothing better than an old VW.

one8turbo 02-22-2012 05:07 PM

So some plans changed and she's been sitting for a little bit but this weekend is looking like a good time to bring her home :) I sold the epsilons and bought my newest project (2011 Honda Ruckus), and bought a set of corrado steelies and put my 165/45/15s on them. I love the way they look and don't regret selling the epsilons at all especially since i made like $300 off of them. All i have to do is finish installing my fixed front vent windows and ill be bringing here home hopefully for good. :D
