ohhhh Tyler..........haha
|
- Reinstalled brake lines/booster and master cyl
- hardwired lower trans harness (previous owner cut off plugs on body harness) - Relocated battery to trunk - Routed Microtech engine harness - Removed heater core/blower/ everything not needed from under dash http://tyler.xeroweb.com/s13coupe/062011 (1).jpg Parts needed to get the car on the road Driveshaft (picking up today after work) Radiator mounts S13 Radiator (Anyone willing to trade for an Isis S14 radiator?) If not I'll just make some upper mounts for now Intercooler Pipe Test Pipe |
Monday I did the following
- Installed Axles - Installed Welded Diff - Installed Driveshaft - Installed Trans mount Last night did the following - Connected fuel lines - Fixed trunk latch - Attempted to install clutch pedal but quickly found out someone who worked on the car previously drilled the hole for the master cyl about 1/2" from where it should be... wtf - Wired the microtech, fuel pump, fans and coil packs in last night - Started car :supz: |
so you gonna make the cruise night Saturday?
|
Something weird was going on with the wiring so I ripped the entire wiring harness out and installed a painless performance fuse panel. As of right now it has working headlights, tail lights, turn signals, brake lights, reverse lights and ignition switch. All other chassis wires have been eliminated. Should hopefully see some track time in Englishtown, NJ this weekend. Sorry been too busy working on the car to take photos. Car moved out of garage under it's own power for the first time yesterday.

Well, a lot has changed since my last post. I pulled the SR and put it in my Sil-80 and then sold this shell to a buddy of mine. A few months later I sold the Sil-80 and I'm now buying this car back with a KA-T setup laying in the engine bay. Yes I mean laying in there not bolted in. Not 100% sure of the specs on the engine but the price was right and would like to see what she can do. Can't wait to get started, again.
|
Getting Ready to pull the KA out to look it over real good.
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...24079050_n.jpg Engine out. Looks like a brand new Exedy OEM Replacement clutch. I'll burn this one out and then throw in a SPEC Billet Flywheel and my Exedy Stage 2(SR20DET) I have laying around. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...17974176_n.jpg |
Picked up an engine harness and ka24de ecu today. I will be tuning this car using Nismotronic. I'm choosing to go this route because 1. the manufacturer is pretty local to me and 2. there is tons of active development unlike Nistune which seems to have stopped progressing for some time. They should have Map based tuning on the stock ecu available sometime this summer.
|
- Pulled the intake manifold off
- degreased the hell out of the engine - Cleaned up intake manifold and painted it with Aluminum color engine enamel - Bought new gaskets for intake manifold, throttle body and egr block off. |
- Changed all vacuum/ coolant hoses under intake manifold
- Deleted all the extra steel lines for emissions garbage - Changed front main seal - Bolted up T25 and connected oil feed - Reinstalled crank pulley - Bolted up alternator and powersteering pumps - Reinstalled belts https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...28746462_n.jpg |
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...51461105_n.jpg
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...19587262_n.jpg - I dropped in the engine and bolted it up - Test fitted the ISIS KA24DE intercooler kit. - Hooked up Clutch slave cyl and adjusted pedal. Ordered the following parts - Nismotronic ecu - Ordered ISIS S13 Aluminum radiator - ISIS Fans/Aluminum fan shroud - ISIS colder temp thermostat |
The previous owner ripped out all of my custom wiring and was basically putting the car back to stock. I again ripped out all the stock wiring and used the painless fuse panel to rewire the entire car. I have all the basics working and started on the engine harness wiring. Hopefully it will be running within the next week or so.
|
I finished the engine wiring, turned the key, heard the fuel pump turn on and then listened to the unplugged #4 injector dump fuel into the cyl. I swapped in several other injectors so either the o-rings are all bad or the fuel rail is messed up. I picked up another fuel rail and a new set of o-rings so I'm going to give it a go again this weekend.

Car is running finally! I assumption the ecu shipped setup for 370cc injectors and a SR20DET MAF. Started right up on first try but was running really rich. I checked the tune on the ecu and found it was still set for the stock injectors and maf. Made a quick change to the ecu and she was purring like a kitten. The video below was actually taken running the stock tune with only the turbo elbow hooked up. https://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=642074447637 <------------ Click Here to see video Still have a lot of cleanup to do but it's getting there. And no I'm not keeping the valve cover that color http://tyler.xeroweb.com/s13coupe/kat.jpg I have a few goodies on the way -ISIS Single GT Exhaust for S13 -3 x ISIS Exhaust Hangers -ISIS S13 KA24DE radiator fan shroud kit -Circuit Sports Coolant Overflow Tank -Autometer Sport Comp Oil Pressure Gauge 100psi |
So my parts came in and are all installed. I wired in the fans to be switched on and off via the AC output on the Nismotronic.
http://tyler.xeroweb.com/s13coupe/fansandexhaust.jpg I let the car fully warm up this time and of course nothing can ever go right. The car was smoking like crazy from the exhaust. I did a compression test and it came back 175 across the board. Unbolted the downpipe and found lots of oil! Yey blown turbo! http://tyler.xeroweb.com/s13coupe/sadTurbo.jpg So I picked up a 2871R and brand new 550cc injectors off of a buddy. Then spent 7hrs trying to find a restricted oil inlet fitting on Saturday with no luck. So I ordered one from my supplier. I'm just waiting on the fitting to come in so I can slap that bad boy on and fire it up. http://tyler.xeroweb.com/s13coupe/newturbo.jpg |
Ohh I also swapped out the cheap wires for a set of Bosch.
http://tyler.xeroweb.com/s13coupe/engine.jpg |
Well I got the 2871 all installed and fired it up. There was a bit of smoke at first which I expected because of all the oil in the exhaust.
http://tyler.xeroweb.com/s13coupe/we...oubles (1).jpg After a little while it continued to smoke and I started to see oil seeping from the turbo inlet flange. I pulled the manifold back off and look what I missed, oil leaking from cyl2. http://tyler.xeroweb.com/s13coupe/we...oubles (2).jpg At this point I figure I'll go over the head 3 angle valve job, new valve stem seals, resurface. Then throw on a new head gasket and some ARP head studs. http://tyler.xeroweb.com/s13coupe/we...oubles (3).jpg I got the head off and it looked like the head gasket was pretty much brand new but appeared to be leaking around cyl2 http://tyler.xeroweb.com/s13coupe/we...oubles (4).jpg http://tyler.xeroweb.com/s13coupe/we...oubles (5).jpg |
Well I picked up a S14 Ka for cheap, installed it and guess what? Same exact problem. I guess the 2871r I picked up has bad oil seals. I confirmed this by putting the stock exhaust manifold on. No smoking/ dripping oil. So now I have an ISIS RS3871 Turbo on the way. Sooo much wasted time. At least I have a spare KA to build now.
|
Or to make into a coffee table haha....BTW, I plan on putting the pistons on it in a week or so and moving it downstairs :)
|
Got the ISIS turbo installed and fired it up... No smoking!!! Finally!
http://tyler.xeroweb.com/s13coupe/newKA.jpg |
I got to take the car down the road for a quick test drive. As soon as the car hit boost the clutch started slipping. Tonight I will be installing a SPEC Billet Flywheel so I can run the Exedy Stage 2 SR20DET clutch I have laying around.
|
Installed the clutch and flywheel on Sunday. I got into boost a little and it felt awesome but I could not really get on it because it still needs to be tuned
|
Nice build so far, keep it up man
|
Thanks, I started putting the interior back together and made a gauge pod from plexiglass for the dash where the center vents were. I have the following sitting in the garage waiting to be installed
- BC type BR coils -Autometer Sport Comp Tach -Autometer Sport Comp Speedo -Autometer Sport Comp Oil Pressure Gauge -Autometer Sport Comp Fuel Level Gauge -ISIS solid rear subframe bushings Don't mind the stickers... Some friends of mine got bored while I wasn't there. And yes I know it needs paint horribly http://tyler.xeroweb.com/s13coupe/outofgarage1.jpg http://tyler.xeroweb.com/s13coupe/outofgarage2.jpg http://tyler.xeroweb.com/s13coupe/outofgarage3.jpg |
It's been a little while but I got the coilovers installed, the subframe bushings in, gauge cluster built and gauges installed. I also got bored and changed the valve stem seals.
Click for some bushing burning video. http://tyler.xeroweb.com/s13coupe/su...ingInstall.jpg http://tyler.xeroweb.com/s13coupe/gaugeCluster.jpg |
Car is coming together i also really like that crx there.
|
I honestly don't even know who's CRX that was. A friend of a friends I believe. It really is coming together. Now I need to swap out the diff that's in it because this one is shot. I guess that's what happens when you buy parts like this from people that are known to be shady.
