SuperSlow's 05 Turbo Swapped SS

Car was originally supercharged from the factory. I did as much as I could with that setup. had a 2.6" pulley, 60lb injectors, single pass intake manifold, front mount heat exchanger, full exhaust, 3" intake. The car was quick but got boring pretty quick. Started putting away money about a year and a half ago and started the swap in the spring of this year. Current mods include:
ZZP turbo exhaust manifold
Garrett 50 trim t3/to4e
custom catless downpipe
3" CTI catback
Tial 38mm WG w/external dump
custom 3" turbo intake
custom 2.5" hot and cold side piping w/ 3" MAF housing
ZZP 50mm BOV (Tial knockoff, works just as good and a 1/3 of the price)
CX racing intercooler
RD Fabs intake manifold
80 lb/hr injectors
JM Fabrications catch can
Hallman Pro MBC
custom tuned by me using HPtuners

The car is running at 22 psi of boost currently. My stock clutch is smoked so as soon as I replace that I plan on getting dyno numbers. From looking at other similar cars. They are putting down in the 330-350 whp range. I do have plans in the future for a larger precision turbo and just re-doing some things to clean everything up a bit.

Thats pretty cool. Looks really clean. When are you planning on getting a clutch?

gotvtec? 10-23-2010 12:25 PM

I would get steelies and make it sleeper

SuperSlow764 10-23-2010 12:55 PM

^^lol not a bad idea. I'm getting married in Punta Cana in 2 weeks and I'll be there for 2 weeks so i'm not sure if i'm going to get the clutch in before the holidays but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Got Insulin? 10-23-2010 12:58 PM

Pretty slick. Did you ever think of leaving the SC on there and twin-charging it?

Honduh 10-23-2010 01:08 PM

Nice. I wouldn't mind daily driving a ss.

SuperSlow's 05 Turbo Swapped SS

Have you thought of lowering it? From the pictures, looks like you could go a few inches

jesse096 10-23-2010 02:16 PM

Did you tune eddies car a few weeks back? If so, this is one clean swap in person!

-Jesse

SuperSlow764 10-23-2010 04:54 PM

Yeah I tuned eddie's car. I'm still riding on the stock suspension right now. Not sure if I want to lower it with springs though. I'm waiting for some for this company to come out with some trans. upgrades so I can beat on it at the track. I'm looking for mid 12's how the car sits and 11's with a bigger turbo.

jesse096 10-23-2010 06:27 PM

I was the dude with the Blue Silverado. ****s sweet man, clean install!

ourbloodykisses 10-23-2010 06:31 PM

22 psi of boost with stock internals? is that safe for this motor? I have no idea...

jesse096 10-23-2010 06:41 PM

I think Eddie runs close to 20 on his SC motor... Could be wrong...

-Jesse

gotvtec? 10-23-2010 10:57 PM

20 on a sc is lol na jess he is prolly at 14-16 tops

jesse096 10-24-2010 10:09 AM

That's why I said IDK, I'm too preoccupied talking to him when I'm in the car to pay attention to his boost gauge...

-Jesse

SuperSlow764 10-24-2010 01:10 PM

22 psi is def. safe on this motor. There has been 1 car pushing 30 psi from a S362 making over 500 whp on a completely factory long block. If eddie is pushing 20 psi from that supercharger there is a problem somewhere like a clogged cat or something. I believe when I tuned him I was logging somewhere in the 16 psi range.

TalonTsi97 10-24-2010 02:16 PM

Nice setup! I'll have to keep an eye out for you in the warminster area.
You couldn't of kept the S/C and went with a twin charge setup?
What kind of clutch will you be putting in it?

SuperSlow764 10-24-2010 06:04 PM

Yes I def. could have kept the sc and went twincharged but I'm not rich and selling all the parts really help offset the price of switching over and there are a lot of headaches with tuning a twincharged car. I'm going with a cluchmasters stage 4 sprung 6 puck clutch.

Car is awesome man have a lot of respect for turbo balts that were s/c they seem to make great power and decently reliable

but 22psi i wouldnt say is safe ha, yes a lot has to due with the tune but if i were you i would start saving money for a fuel system those number 4 pistons sure like to go flying ha...

SuperSlow764 10-24-2010 08:50 PM

^^true about the 22 psi but I tune my own car so I know whats going on with it. Switching to some sort of return style or boost referenced fuel system is more of a luxury than a necessity until I start pushing the 400 whp mark. With the 80 lb/hr injectors in the car now I'm only seeing 65% duty cycle with an 11.5 afr at 7000 rpm. Now that it's starting to get a little colder out I'm going to probably turn the mbc down back to 15 psi.

SvicksTc 10-24-2010 09:20 PM

so is this not the hahn kit? have any vids?

SuperSlow764 10-25-2010 08:50 AM

no this is not the hahn kit. I've pieced the kit together choosing the parts I wanted. I did all the install, fab, and tuning. Sorry no vids as of right now. It would be pointless seeing as the engine goes crazy but the wheels don't because of the clutch. When everything is in order I will try and get some vids up.

SvicksTc 10-25-2010 09:49 PM

what clutch do you plan to go with? ever go out to any meets id really like to check this out, my buddies had a cobalt for years now and did absolutely all he could with the s/c and always talked about going turbo but the car is up for sale now

so ive learned a lot about these cars through him

SuperSlow764 10-26-2010 12:14 PM

clutchmaster stage 4. I typically don't go out to the meets. If I do I might go to the thursday or sunday night philly meets.

nolicense526 12-15-2010 03:22 AM

would be nice to turbo my DD SS...how much did you get for your SC stuff and how much do you have into the turbo set up? i obviously gotta do more research but where is your oil drain and return going to? whats a list of things i would need? turbo mani, turbo, wastegate, downpipe, inlet pipe, intercooler and piping, blow off valve, fuel pump, injectors, intake manifold and TB...what else am i missing? id rather be turbo but i dont wanna buy turbo lol, way more money! how much do you charge for tuning?

Erik@R/TTuning 12-15-2010 11:17 AM

I dig these cars. Both SC and turbo. When you are ready for a clutch I'll work up a price you can't refuse. Shoot me a PM.

i feel like the double compression would just create unneeded heat and the SC would be a bit of a flow restriction...

plus you would still have the drive of the SC pulling on the motor...

i would imagine detonation would be bitch on a setup like that with pump gas unless you gated the turbo way down...

OP..sweet car man, glad to hear chevy is still building something right. ive been in a handful of their newish cars and they all seem terrible

SuperSlow764 12-15-2010 03:49 PM

I got around $1000 for the supercharger setup. I sold it piece by piece cause like nobody who owns a non supercharged cobalt can come up with a grand all together. Actually the twincharged setups are amazing for a DD. They tend to spool a turbo 800-1000 rpm sooner then just turbo alone. ZZP has made over 500whp with a twincharged setup and a hybrid bullseye 62mm turbo.

RedBowTies88 12-15-2010 03:53 PM

nice! on pump gas?

SuperSlow764 12-15-2010 03:56 PM

unfortunely no that was on 110 a I believe. 400-420whp can easily be had on pump gas but the trannies don't like that much.

RedBowTies88 12-15-2010 04:03 PM

ah gotcha....well still very respectable

I charge $200 for a tune. What year is your car and what mods do you have? Also do you have a wideband installed?

Qwibby 12-15-2010 11:58 PM

Factory forged steel rods can handle 500 whp, most vendors BEND rods @ or above 530...

I love these motors :) I am running an LE5 L61 hybrid :)

SuperSlow764 12-16-2010 03:08 PM

^^ nice setup. Yeah the factory rods are pretty stout pieces. I believe ZZP bent a set right the 500whp range in an LNF. The crappy part of these engines is the pistons and blocks with factory sleeves. Although the genII ecotec blocks have been proven to be quite stout.

Burnt2Death 12-16-2010 03:17 PM

Just stoppoing by to say nice Balt man!! You on any of the cobalt forums? YC or CSS?

SuperSlow764 12-16-2010 06:27 PM

I'm on all of them but I mostly only post on css.net but all the good info is on gmsportcompact.net

On another note I took shipment of my OTT return style fuel system with the walbro pump the other day. Now just need to get a clutch.

nolicense526 12-17-2010 02:10 AM

nice. so if i can get a grand for the scharger stuff id prob have to spend like 3k to go turbo then huh?

SuperSlow764 12-17-2010 03:21 PM

You can def. spend less then 3k on a turbo kit if you look around for deals. Best bang for the buck right now is a lk9 intake manifold off of a saab. You can get them for under $100. Most of it depends on what your looking to do. You can spend $1500 on a turbo or $600. You can spend $600 on a tubular equal length exhaust mani. or $300 for a log style one like mine.

OMGz Turbo 12-18-2010 10:13 PM

So yeah the next time your in the area i DEFINITELY wanna go for a ride. hahh

SuperSlow764 12-18-2010 11:02 PM

Absolutely right after I get a clutch in this damn thing. It's not even holding 17 psi with the cold weather. Where at in Levittown you at? I grew up in Vermilion Hills. I just moved out of there a few years ago.
